Richmond has picked a famous name, Kelvin Moore, for his first game. The 20 year old from Healesville, no relation to the former champion Hawthorn full-back of the same name, comes off the Tiger rookie list.

Good luck young fella !  ;)

I've never seen the youngster play. What can we expect of him? Any one willing to predict that he could be something special? Or will he be the second coming of Royce Vardy?

Hey John f,
He is a bit like Dustin Flecther.
He is ok actually.
Would say he could be permanent full=back next year.
That will put Dr Who in the poohouse. ha

Cheers Jackstar,
If he turns to be half as good as Dustin Fletcher I'll be happy.

IMO Kelvin Moore is not tall enough to be a regular full back.  At the moment he has been playing full back for Coburg and doing well despite giving away few centimeters.  His main strength is his reading of the play.  Currently he is a bit light and needs to add some muscle mass.  Also his hardness and intensity is a concern but that is understandable at this stage of his development.

I hope he can develop into a half back in the mould of a Wellman/McPhee/Hart/McKenna type player.  I beleive he has the skill/smarts and the awarness to do so, but will need to be developed carefully and encouraged to attack.  I hope he doesn't become another Kellaway/Gaspar type who are only concerned about stopping and scragging their man with no emphasis on providing an attacking running option.

He does look a likely type - raw talent one would say - in that he naturally has good awareness, reading of the play and decent skills.  How he is developed from now on will dictate how good he becomes.  In the next few years I would like to see him add muscle and strength, and concentrate on adding more urgency and "burst" into his game.  At the moment he looks a bit too relaxed - a bit like Bowden.  I hope he gets out of this perceived way he goes about it pretty quickly.

I don't see him as the answer at full back, but can become a tallish, running half back that can cover a 2nd or 3rd tall in defence and also pinch hit up forward.
Does anyone have half an idea on anything?

When Kel came to Melbourne he lived with a friend of mine for about 12 months.  I met him at a bbq and he was a very nice, pretty intelligent kid.  Hope he can play footy cos i don't want to start bagging him lol.

Thanks for the info Harry the research Hog. Good to hear that he can read the play well. This isn't something that can really be taught and if he's got it then he's half way there.

Would be great if he somehow manages to fill out and increase his intensity a bit. Of course its too early to tell, but just from an intuitive standpoint, do you think he will end up out outshining Jay Schulz?

His main strength is his reading of the play.

Agree with you here Harry H.

In the Coburg games I have seen he has been very good in this area. really only struggled in the game against Werribee
