I wouldn't worry about it at this stage.

Firstly, what it looks like in mocked up mode doesn't necessarily mean that's what the final product looks like ;D

Second, the Council has to approve it and issue permits so..............  :whistle :whistle ;D

Third, all I want is for a Club to have great facilities - this funiding means we will have that and to me at least that's the most important thing

As a Richmond supporter who has put up with mediocrity over 25 years I refuse to accept CRAP. Hopefully there will be some decent changes to the building facades and designs to make them look atleast half reasonable lol

Uncertainity over Council contribution (The Age)

From: Decaying stands to be torn down

... But uncertainty remained over Melbourne City Council's contribution to the project, with councillors accusing Premier Steve Bracks of trying to "bully and railroad" the council into spending $4 million.

Despite the release of artists' impressions and details of the proposed facilities at Punt Road and Princes Park, Melbourne councillors Peter Clarke and Fraser Brindley said the $2 million expected from the council for each venue had not even been put out for community consultation.

"The State Government is certainly trying to force the Melbourne City Council to commit to $2 million at Princes Park, $2 million at Punt Road and additional money in other facilities. But there is no budget commitment at this point," Cr Clarke said.

"Our priorities are in child care and other areas."

The State Government rejected suggestions that it had acted prematurely, pointing to a council resolution to support a redevelopment of the venues.

Council minutes show no financial commitment to Punt Road or Princes Park.

Cr Clarke said Lord Mayor John So had deliberately snubbed yesterday's launch, but Cr So later said he had a prior engagement at a circus.

Punt Road Oval's small pocket to be fixed

At Punt Road, the social club will be rebuilt and the cricket practice wickets moved next to the scoreboard on Brunton Avenue, where they will be cut into the hill. The club will also explore trying to raise the more than $1 million required to reconfigure the oval as one pocket is too narrow.

"We have one pocket much smaller than the others so we will explore whether we can raise additional money to look at getting the oval back to a normal shape. That would also require the co-operation of the council," Tigers president Gary March said. "This work will at least put us in the upper echelon of clubs again."

Punt Road Dream to become a reality - March (FTB)

PUNT ROAD DREAM TO BECOME A REALITY
Gary March
The Fighting Tiger Bulletin
June 2006

Although Richmond played its last official match at Punt Road Oval more than 40 years ago, there's no doubt the ground remains a very special place in the hearts and minds of Tiger fans.

I dare say that even those members of the Yellow and Black faith who have never set foot inside Punt Road Oval, still revere the Club's home base of more than 120 years.

Punt Road is a veritable shrine of Tiger memories and there's a very strong connection between Richmond fans and the famous ground.

That's why the recent announcement by the State Government and AFL that funding was being provided to several Victorian clubs, including Richmond, to improve facilities, was such good news for all of us.

As Richmond members would be aware, in 1996, under the leadership of Leon Daphne and with the great support and vision of many of the Tiger faithful, the Club embarked on the first phase of the redevelopment of Punt Road.

The Jack Dyer Foundation was established to raise funds to complete those works and it has remained the fund-raising vehicle for the Club with Phase 2 and now Phase 3.

To date, the Jack Dyer Foundation (JDF) has raised $2.5 million to assist in the redevelopment of Punt Road and I would like to thank our Board member, Don Lord, for his continued outstanding contribution to the Club with the JDF.

In 2002, with the assistance of the City of Melbourne and the use of AFL distribution proceeds from the sale of Waverley Park, the Club was able to embark on phase 2, which saw the building of a new administration building, a pool, and an upgrade of the players' gymnasium.

Phase 3 is perhaps the most important. It will be the culmination of the original vision and will provide our football department with facilities to match the elite teams in the competition, as well as providing our members with a long overdue adequate Social Club facility.

The current project budget estimate for Phase 3 of the Punt Road redevelopment is $6.5 million.

The proposed funding contributions are as follows:

  • Victorian Government $2.0 million
  • The City of Melbourne $2.0 million (subject to budget process)
  • The Australian Football League $1.5 million
  • Richmond Football Club $1.0 million

What does the re-development include?

The final scope for the development is still to be finalised, however the current scope of works proposed include the following elements:

  • Demolition of the current Social Club, creating an integrated football administration and player training precinct;
  • An elite level health and fitness area, including a fully equipped gymnasium and improved community access to the existing swimming pool;
  • Purpose-built community meeting space and supporting amenities and change facilities to accommodate multiple sporting and charitable organisations;
  • Development of a sports medicine precinct;
  • Relocating the Club's museum to the ground floor to improve access;
  • Upgraded membership and store facilities.
  • Upgrade and improve interface between the Punt Road Oval and the Yarra Park open space precinct.

The initial scope of works developed is preliminary. Further planning will be undertaken during the project development phases to determine the capacity to achieve identified program elements and funding partner requirements within the available budget.

What will happen to the old Grandstand?

  • The facade of the Jack Dyer grandstand will be maintained, however, the proposal includes an upgrade of sporting infrastructure and community space beneath the grandstand.

What are the timelines for this project?

  • The final timelines for the project will be established once the project development phase is completed.
  • The Club has indicated its desire to commence works on-site in 2008, providing it with enough time to raise the necessary finances to honor its commitment to the project.

The redevelopment of Punt Road is integral to the long-term prosperity of our great club and I am pleased that we will be able to conclude the final phase over the next few years.

This also will be a strong catalyst for our continued push with the AFL to have all of our home matches returned to the MCG.

Finally, thanks to everyone for your coontinued support of the mighty Tigers and I look forward (as you do) with great anticipation to the remainder of season 2006.

Considering the tough draw we encountered in the first part of the season, it is a more than admirable performance for us to be positioned where we are at the halfway point of '06.

It's full credit to Terry Wallace, his coaching staff and the players, and I'm sure there's a lot more excitement to come in the second half of this year and the  next few seasons for the Tigers.

Council money for RFC (Herald-Sun)

Council money for three clubs
04 October 2006   Herald-Sun
Damian Barrett

In more good news for Victorian clubs, which have watched interstate outfits win the past six premierships, the council also voted to contribute $2 million to both Richmond and Carlton.

The Tigers grant will be used in a $6.5 million development of their Punt Rd base; the Blues funding will be part of a $12.7 million upgrade of Princes Park.

At last night's meeting at Melbourne Town Hall, the three clubs had submissions made respectively by their chief executive officers.

In their respective projects, the Roos need to contribute $1.5 million, the Blues $2 million and the Tigers $1 million.

Richmond's Steven Wright said: "There has been a lot of work put in behind the scenes on this and this is not just a positive result for us, it is a positive for all involved with football in this state."

Lord Mayor John So, who did not attend last night's meeting, said the three club projects remained conditional on "significant community benefit at each facility".

"Community benefit required by council would include the return of some parkland, the improvement of the presentation of buildings and surrounding parks, and greater community access," So said.

Council backs Punt Road plans

richmondfc.com.au

The final piece in the Punt Road Oval redevelopment jigsaw has been put into place with Richmond receiving confirmation of up to a $2 million pledge from the Melbourne City Council.

Earlier this year, the Tigers were granted $2 million by the Bracks State Government and $1.5 million by the AFL towards the $7 million redevelopment of their famous Punt Road base.

Following lengthy negotiations conducted by Richmond CEO Steven Wright, the Melbourne City Council last night also voted in favor of making a significant financial contribution.

“This is a great outcome for the Club. We are delighted that the Council has agreed to contribute up to $2 million to the redevelopment of Punt Road,” said Richmond’s president Gary March.

“This means we now have the green light to proceed with our extensive plans for Punt Road, which includes a major upgrade of our football facilities and a new community centre.”

Remember the Club has to raise some of the funds itself

see below:

I must say I've contributed to the JDF in the past and will do so again if it means we will have some of the best facilities in the Comp and we don't sell out and leave our home :thumbsup

If I'm reading from the 2005 financials correctly, the club had $148,314 in the JDF as of October 31 last year. Hopefully that number is up after this year. In any case you're right WP. We still need to raise most of $1 million required from us.

Speaking of donating to the JDF:

Walkway of Honour

The RFC are offering all members and supporters a final opportunity to make a donation to the Jack Dyer Foundation (JDF), and be recognised by having a family name and/or message inscribed on your very own brick paver in the Walkway of Honour.

Donations:
* $100 donations are recognised with a single paver
* $200 donations are recognised with a double paver package
* $1000 donations receive an eight paver package

Due to the pending re-development of the Social Club, scheduled for November 2007, this will be the last opportunity for some time to leave your paw print at Tigerland with a paver in the Walkway of Honour.

Registration forms and gift certificates for Christmas are available by contacting Carly on (03) 9429 5333. However, you must be quick as all registration forms must be sent to the Club by Tuesday, October 31.
