"Fremantle has put forward pick 10 and 18 for Shai Bolton. I expect it to get done." @CalTwomey

Personally, while not an amazing result, I dont think this would be bad either.

Bollocks - after compo & bids it will effectively be a mid-late first and an early second which is absolute daylight robbery. :thumbsdown

Whilst that's true the kid that is picked with this pick will be the 10th kid selected in this draft (not including Ashcroft and Lombard, no other acadamy or F/S will be picked sooner) The Pick 18 will be the same but throw in Kako and Marshall as not inclusive in the order.

It's still potentially 7 more players we don't get a shot at  if we take 10 & 18  instead of 10 & 11...and it's a weaker draft hand if we want to trade up... :shh

Guess we just have to trust that our decision makers hold firm and remember that we aren’t obliged to trade Rioli and Bolton. So, not up to us to make concessions.

Just a hard no to 10 & 18. If the footy department accepts that then they’ve let the club down. He’s contracted for 3/4 more years, bloody he’ll just hold him to it. If freo want him so bad then pay the price.

But regardless we don't get a shot at them anyway and won't draft them.

I get what your saying but I reckon it's just the optics of it.

Whether we get Pick 10 or Pick 18. We won't be drafting Ashcroft Lombard or Kako so whether they go before or after any of our picks is sort of irrelevant.

Stay calm, we will get 10 & 11.  Fact is they want him but more importantly they need him, he's the x factor they lack.

It's at least 7 places back regardless of bids eg  if there's say, three bids before 11 then 11 becomes 14 but 18 - presuming there's no more bids between 11 & 18- becomes 21 , 7 places difference....also say Norf decide to split pick 2 , they're more likely to take say, 6 (Rioli trade) &11 then 6&18.... :shh

yep, its a massive difference and as TK this is massive for our club if they buckle and accept that rubbish. Could be the end of Yze if he has a flop with that pick 6 or 10.

no problem retaining Bolton if thats what we end up. We may not even have armstrong at those picks IMO.

Right player, right time? Stakes high for Freo in Bolton chase

By Nathan Schmook

... Fremantle's offer of picks No.10 and 18 has so far been rebuffed as the Tigers' hold firm on their request for No.10 and 11, with negotiations now moving into week two of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

The stakes are high for the Dockers because Bolton is a player they can hardly afford to walk away from knowing the impact he would likely have at his second club, which has built strategically for this point.

...

While the Tigers have been painted as stubborn in their positioning, the fact remains Bolton is a player with four years to run on a contract, albeit one who has reasons to request a move home to Western Australia.

Conceding so early in negotiations would make little sense, especially when they know how valuable Bolton will be for Fremantle.

The Dockers' list build so far has left them in a position where they have the ability to pay a high price for Bolton, even if it means finding middle ground between the clubs' respective positions.

They would also be following the path of recent premiers who have taken risks at the trade table to fill the remaining gaps on their lists, giving them the crucial edge over rivals.

...

Giving up those picks was a risk worth taking for Brisbane, just like it was for Collingwood, Geelong, Melbourne and Richmond before them, who all rounded out their lists with successful, if costly, trades.

The key for those teams has been getting the right players at the right time, and it is why Bolton makes so much sense for Fremantle, which needed a better scoreboard return from its small forwards in 2024.

Bolton's All-Australian season came in 2022 when he booted 43 goals and averaged 17.5 disposals in a Richmond team that won 13 games and lost an elimination final to Brisbane.

That goal tally would have ranked him No.2 at Fremantle in 2024, just behind star key forward Josh Treacy (45) and ahead of sidekick Jye Amiss (36). It's reasonable to expect he can deliver at that level in a team that is contending.

The 25-year-old's fast feet at stoppages will then complement star trio Caleb Serong, Hayden Young and Andrew Brayshaw, who can create room in the centre square through their own ability to rotate forward.

While multiple player exits in each of the past two off-seasons set the Dockers back, they also contributed to the opportunity the club has this year with picks No.10, 11 and 18.

Negotiating hard until you can get the best available deal for your club is the job of a list manager, and it is right to say the Tigers' demands of pick No.10 and 11 in a first-round that clubs are desperate to climb into is over the top.

But compromising and settling on some middle ground can still be a win for Fremantle if that's what it comes to late in the Trade Period. It could be the last in a series of moves that helps the club win its first premiership.

If I'm Freo and I'm standing firm on Pick 11 because they want Bo Allen. They have to add F1 2025.

Pick 10, 18 and 2025 1st rounder.

I take that for Bolton and Baker. Freo will be top 6 IMO, even more likely with Bolton and Baker. But I take it knowing it's a good enough deal, and who knows. Serong does a knee, Darcy can't get on the park, Lose first few games and Longmuir under pump and the finish 10th and we get pick 8.

Nope I’m taking their pick 11 thanks. There’s no way they finish worse off next year than this year, especially with Bolton in the side.

They won’t trade future picks anyway as they want to have them handy if Warner decides to go back.

Absolutely agree with you, but they may have just as good a reason to keep 11. They can always trade in draft picks for Warner next year. And who knows what Sydney will ask. Unsure if they'd want draft picks as they are in the window now.

SHAI BOLTON

Fremantle has picks 10 and 18 on the table for Bolton, but Richmond is keen for a better hand of No.10 and 11. The Dockers will serve up all three picks if Liam Baker changes his mind and is happy to go to Fremantle; if Richmond and West Coast can't settle on a deal, it could mean Freo lands both of them. Bolton has pushed to return to Western Australia without officially nominating a club but knows Fremantle can get it done and is keen to get home. Fremantle special projects boss Peter Bell last week described the Dockers' offer for Bolton as "really strong".

Shut up Bell strong dockers a dreaming if they think it's 10 and 18, becomes 15 and 23 and 10 and 11 become 15 and 16. Pay up or he stays.
