Caller into Sen saying Carr was spotted walking into Waverly park this morning.

Only problem with that so called fact was he said he was a tall bloke, and Carr looks like a midget

Does anyone know how we force a club to trade? Is it only when we match the offer?

Ever notice that the rumors on Dustys alleged destination club starts the week we play that same team?

I just reckon the Merkin is more or less playing the same card as he did in '13. Attempting to give us the perception that there's connections with North/Saints/Hawthorn.

He's a prickly one that guy, no wonder we hate dealing with him.

Not sure what to believe. All I will say this the club has done alot for him off the field to grow as a person, settle down and been very supportive. I think he wouldn't be were he is without Richmond .If his manager is shopping him for the highest $$$ well that will be bit disappointing and he can leave as far as I'm concerned we shouldn't  be held by a player on our knees. The club is bigger then one player like we seen when Ablett left the cats. For me like it or not we need to be switched on these last 4 games the situation is becoming a nuisance especially his manager.

After reading Barrett today, I think he'll stay, Merkin just wants to make sure he gets Martin as much as he can from Richmond.
And you may not think I care for you

I think....

If we don't match the offer from a club that Dusty nominates then he goes to that club, ala Tyrone Vickery.

If we match it and Dusty does not accept that offer then i think we are forced to trade or Dusty takes pot luck in the draft.

Dusty now open to highest bidder? (SEN)

Dusty now open to highest bidder?

By SEN
3 August 2017

Richmond star Dustin Martin is open to the highest bidder, according to SEN regular Greg Denham.

As Martin’s contract saga rolls into Round 20, Denham, who earlier this year was confident the star playmaker would remain at Tigerland and hinted a deal could be done prior to the season getting underway, believes the goalposts have changed.

“If someone offers so much money that it’s getting beyond ridiculous for Richmond to pay that money, then I think he might leave,” he told Hungry for Sport.

"I never thought he would leave Richmond, but it's now highest bidder."

It’s been rumoured North Melbourne’s offer is in the vicinity of $1.5 million per season and far superior to the six-year $1.2 million a season offer from Richmond.

The Australian journalist has suggested Hawthorn might be a new player in the market for the 26-year-old.

With Luke Hodge announcing his retirement, and Josh Gibson expected to do likewise, in addition to the 20 per cent increase in salary cap, the Hawks could have enough funds at their disposal to make a play for the Brownlow Medal favourite.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Hawthorn has a massive interest in Dustin Martin,” Denham said.

“There was a massive rumour last week it was Sydney but they’ve absolutely denied it on all fronts because they don’t have the money.”

If Martin does depart Richmond – which is shaping as more likely than less likely with every passing week – he could become the first player to leave a club a season after winning the Brownlow Medal.

In the wake of Patrick Dangerfield’s suspension, the key midfielder is a raging favourite to win this year’s award.

No out of contract player has ever won a Brownlow Medal.

BARRETT: Waiting game will make Dusty a rich man

Damian Barrett

IN AN industry paranoid of outsiders and ultra-protective of its own set ways, the entry of a man like Ralph Carr causes mayhem.

Clubs fear dealing with him. Many don’t trust him. Fellow player managers are at the least bemused, and most are angered, by the tactics he employs in striving for what he believes is the best deal for his client.

Carr is a relatively recent AFL blow-in and he does not care for others’ thoughts.

He has forged a successful, albeit highly controversial, path through the entertainment industry. Jon Stevens, Kate Ceberano, Tina Arena, Cosentino, Richard Wilkins, even Pseudo Echo, and many others, have all been represented by Carr. Some remain in love with his work, others in extreme dislike, even hate.

In his AFL pursuits, Carr is not beholden to the protocols of those with large numbers of players on their books. He doesn’t have to worry about the need-to-stay-sweet-with-the-clubs politics which can consume and sometimes influence the actions of those outfits.

With only three AFL players on his talent books, he is about 300 players short of the TLA-Stride monster.

As the 2017 season unwinds on its most peculiar and unpredictable path, Carr is emerging as one of the most significant storylines.

His management of the AFL’s most intriguing and arguably biggest name, Dustin Martin, has not been copybook, and his hold-off tactics with Martin’s contract have frustrated everyone associated with Richmond, the club at which Martin started his career in 2010.

In an ideal world for the Tigers, Martin would have re-signed months ago. Many people are still pleading with Carr to tell Martin to re-sign before the finals start next month.

But the people who are critical of him are choosing to forget that in playing this hold-off game, Carr has managed, no matter what happens from here, to secure for Martin a deal that will be at least $1.5 million, and quite possibly $2.5 million, over five years more lucrative than it would have been had he bowed to outside pressure and dealt with the matter six months ago.

In compiling this article, several people who know Carr, the AFL and entertainment system, and Carr himself, were approached.

Many, clearly, didn’t like anything about him or his ways. The word “cowboy” was raised twice. Some simply laughed at the mention of his name, others said he was too keen to make himself the story in order to promote himself and his business.

A theme was his skill set in the entertainment industry not being at all translatable to AFL business, because of the individual versus team philosophy.

One person spoken to said he would never operate the way Carr had with Martin in holding out on the Tigers and openly seeking outside offers and presentations, but conceded that if his organisation, like Carr’s, had only three players on the books and not multiple players at most clubs, that it too would not feel compelled to play the keep-sweet-in-the-big-picture game with clubs.

Martin came to be under Carr’s control when Robbie D’Orazio, then working for Carr, drew on the trust Richmond players Dan Jackson and Luke McGuane had in him and managed to convince Martin to leave his original group.

D’Orazio has since left Carr’s business. Martin stayed with Carr. In 2013, when Martin was out of contract, Carr shopped the ultra-talented midfielder around. Upon knowing this, the Tigers pulled their initial offer, but ultimately re-contracted Martin, and then did so again at the end of 2015.

Despite denials from the Tigers and Carr, it is fact that the drawn-out nature of this current Martin situation can be traced back to that action by the Tigers in 2013. As to what percentage it has driven the overall situation, only Carr would know. But it has been a factor.

The last time Carr played this contractual hold-off game was in 2012, when Collingwood’s Travis Cloke was being courted by rivals, most particularly Fremantle.

The Magpies were adamant they would be offering only a four-year extension, not the five which Carr demanded. When the po-ker game arrived at the day where cards needed to be revealed, Cloke got a five-year offer to stay with the Magpies.

No matter what happens from here, Martin, via his own on-field brilliance and Paddy Dangerfield’s suspension, is a near-certainty to win the 2017 Brownlow Medal.

No one has ever had greater career and financial leverage in the AFL than Martin right now.

It is a situation that has been reached from an individual-over-team outlook from Carr.

Martin, given his clear investment in Carr to act in such a way all year, is not only OK with it, but has clearly thrived on it.

No need to judge either person adversely. It’s business, without restriction.

Surprised he took on Martin, who wasn't even born in the 80's let alone peaked in that decade...

North Melbourne is cashed up enough to lure both Dustin Martin and Josh Kelly to the Kangaroos

August 4, 2017
by Lachlan Ballingall,
Media Academy columnist
FOX SPORTS

THEY are the most talked about footballers in the AFL at this moment, but it has not impacted the form of either Greater Western Sydney’s Josh Kelly or Richmond’s Dustin Martin.

When you have millions and millions of dollars linked to your name for the upcoming season, one could accept a drop in form, but these two have relished it.

They’ve both taken their games to levels that we have not seen before. Different types of footballers, but both elite at what they do.

North Melbourne seem to be the most talked about club when it comes to both these superstar footballers and the reasons are obvious. The delisting of the four veterans last year has left the Roos with an incredible amount of money and room left in the salary cap.

Before going any further, there’s no guarantees either of these players will be at Arden Street next season, but many simply refuse to believe that the Kangaroos have a genuine chance of acquiring their services.

Many feel North don’t have the pulling power to get one or both these stars, but here’s why they have reason to be optimistic.

Josh Kelly

This man no doubt is a huge chance to join North for the 2018 season. The latest offer seems to be around the $7.5 million mark over five years, according to David King.

It is a huge amount of money for a 22-year-old, but is he worth it? Absolutely.

Kelly has everything you want in a midfielder. He is well beyond his years and has only got better with every dollar added by the media speculation.

His ball use on the outside, his ability to win a contested ball and his tackling pressure is why a number of Victorian clubs are circling around the talented youngster.

The Roos have the advantage of acquiring the services of Kelly for a number of reasons. The obvious one being the money offered. You just cannot turn down that amount at his age. The chances of him earning a salary like that outside of football are borderline impossible.

He’s obviously more chance of winning a premiership at Greater Western Sydney, but it would be difficult for one to turn down that amount of money. If he were to sign for the Roos, no one can accuse him of chasing money. He has an opportunity to set himself up for life and that is difficult to turn down.

Also, many people who commentate on the topic seem to forget he was actually a Roos supporter growing up. His father, Phil Kelly, played for the Roos. There is certainly family history within the club.

This is a deal that looks like it very well could happen and that no doubt will excite the North faithful. Obviously the only issue with this deal is the Kangaroos will have to give something away as Kelly would not be a free agent.

Dustin Martin

Acquiring Martin is a much trickier task for anyone chasing him. He seems to really enjoy playing at the Tigers and it’s not hard to see why.

They love him down at Punt Road and he’s given the Tiger faithful plenty to cheer about over the years.

This deal is slightly different to the Kelly one in the sense that Martin is very much in his career best form. Kelly still has plenty of growing to do as a player, but getting Martin now, you very much are getting him at a time where he will be at his best.

Also, Martin is a restricted free agent which means the Tigers are limited in what they can do.

It’s been reported that Richmond can offer him around the $6 million mark over six years, according to Jon Pierik and Caroline Wilson. It’s still a very good offer, but the Roos can no doubt better it.

Martin, like Kelly, has an opportunity to set himself up for life after football. One does feel the decision is slightly more difficult for Martin compared to Kelly. He has no real ties to the football club, but money certainly can talk.

Martin’s agent, Ralph Carr, was spotted in Hobart on the weekend at North Melbourne versus Melbourne. No one knows exactly what was taking place, but it’s interesting without a question of a doubt.

Also, if Kelly were to come and Martin followed, who knows what the Roos could achieve. There’s no denying they would improve Brad Scott’s list dramatically and perhaps propel them towards a top four finish in the future.

Being 16th on the ladder wouldn’t excite either player too much, but they also need to put it into perspective. The Roos have lost a number of games under a goal and if they had won those, who knows, perhaps they would be eyeing off a spot in the top eight.

The point is they aren’t as far off as some think. It’s a tough decision for both players, but North know both would be considering their offer, even if most in the public refuse to believe it.

From the outside, Kelly seems like he will join, but Martin is still up in the air.
