If we match a RFA doesn't he have to stay?

Yep or he can requeat a trade, in that case say a big hello pick 1 or 2.

If Dusty was to accept N0rt's offer then it would IMHO show its simply about the $$$, if that ends up being the a
case then you let him wouldn't you  :huh3

Unfortunately he is proving to be a non-team player off-field and not that bright.  Its a real shame as he displays the opposite on field

based on what? bc he wont re-sign?

Which would be one of our three picks in the first round. North will probably flop against the Lions. Then not only do they get the first pick but it removes our leverage in being able to match any RFA offer they make to force a trade when he could just walk to them in the PSD anyway.

The compo pick we get under the current system will suck but to be honest it's the fairest to the other clubs. That's my opinion on FA compensation anyway. I feel the same way when we get bumped down the draft order because a player wants to move to another club that has nothing to do with us. The draft should be sacrosanct.

If we match a RFA doesn't he have to stay?

Good question. I thought he could still turn down the match and walk. Didn't Dangerfield say he would happily give Melbourne one season if Geelong and Adelaide couldn't work out a deal and he went PSD? I know that was a trade and technically the RFA offer didn't go through because Adelaide already said they would match. Would love to actually know now that if we match then it is in fact binding.

Common guys. If we match and he still wants to go he is in the same position any uncontracted player is. The team wanting him has to come up with adequate trade or he goes into the draft with a price on his head. Because North will finish last, they will have a free hit on him but will need to use their first pick as I think the PSD is not the only an option any more.  A bit like Luke Ball to Collingwood I think.

The hatred towards Dusty from our side would be significant if it went down like that. People would hold that grudge for 60 years.

North don't need him to win a flag - they need him because they can't survive a proper 4-6 year rebuild...

Whilst I am glad we are playing finals I wouldn't mind the H&A season going a bit longer for the hysteria to build up

Can we trade Dusty before his contract technically expires on 31 October?

If he goes its not all doom and gloom:-

Third pick in the first round
2 x 750k to throw at players from other clubs
He'll rot at North for the next 5 years and retire without a flag
North will be cashless.

And thats if we dont engineer a deal for Norths pick 1 or 2.

I honestly don't think Dusty will walk to any club without seeing RFC properly compensated.

If Richmond wants to match an offer but Dusty wants to go I think he will request a trade.

Have I got this right? North lose this week and we are screwed. That will give them the number one pick and he can end up there without having to be traded. So if Dusty wants to go then there is no point matching the offer as we get nothing.

Why does the Kangaroos losing make ANY difference? It's free agency, not the December draft???
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

It only makes a difference if Dusty wants to go there and a deal can't be done. He can then nominate for the draft as an uncontracted player.
