2018 free agents

Nathan Schmook
afl.com.au
6 September 2017

GOLD Coast's Tom Lynch, Rory Sloane, Max Gawn and Jeremy McGovern headline 2018's list of prospective free agents.

The AFL won't release its official 2018 free agency list until early next year, but AFL.com.au has compiled its own preliminary list (see below).

Of the players under 30, the midfield group includes Sloane, Andrew Gaff, Luke Dahlhaus, Tom Liberatore and Mitch Wallis, while the key-position group includes Lynch, McGovern, Tom McDonald, Ben Reid and Dylan Grimes.

Elite defenders Brodie Smith, Nick Smith and Neville Jetta are also on the list, along with ruckmen Gawn, Tom Nicholls, Tom Bellchambers and Scott Lycett.

The 2018 free agency group will also expand to include any players with seven years' experience or more who sign one-year deals later this year.

RICHMOND

Reece Conca
Ben Griffiths
Shaun Grigg
Dylan Grimes
Bachar Houli

Dylan Grimes has established himself as one of the Tigers' most valuable players and should be a priority re-signing for the club before his three-year deal expires at the end of next year. He would attract interest with his ability to play on both tall and small opponents. Bachar Houli, 29, has also underlined his value in 2017 but can probably expect rolling one-year extensions from here. Likewise Shaun Grigg, who signed one-year extensions for both 2017 and 2018 and has performed. Reece Conca's interrupted year has him outside the 22 and clubs could look at the defender once he is a free agent. Ben Griffiths has suffered significant injuries in 2017 – expect the Tigers to stick with the key forward while also targeting young players in that position.

Somehow I don't see any of those announcements being Footy Show exclusives.....

I don't get the negativity toward Conca.

I thought he showed a fair bit this year before he got injured again.

I understand he is injury prone, but if he does get a decent preseason under his belt next year, I reckon he will be a handy player.

Agree with your point slipper but there are too many that have moved passed him now.

Grimes, Vlastuin, Markov, Short, Cellis, McIntosh, Broad. Even Menadue probably gets a game ahead of him; and most of these guys arn't even established and hardened senior playersI was really hoping he might just slide into his early season form straight away but it hasn't happened. Time to move on.

I get the frustration.

I am just trying to be pragmatic. I thought his form earlier this year was good and he was playing well.

Then he gets injured again.

Fit an healthy I reckon he is in our best 22. IMO, Conca staying on our list depends on injury, not his ability. If the club thinks that he can't get over his injury issues then yeah, time to say goodbye.

But injury isn't his fault, which is why I don't understand why people are so negative about him.

I thought he was ok too Slipper

But so was Short , and he got dropped . Broad hasn't done much wrong either since coming into the team .

Vlastuin is playing down back after early season experimentation and is looking like a boss.

Unfortunately Concas spot was his to lose and his body has really let him down .

If you dont get it Ill fill you in.

Ask the club and the swans what value they put on conca.

For the Nankervis trade we offered Conca and they rejected it. We then offered pick 47 and the trade was done.

The other thing is he's always injured. Hes 26 next year and only played 86 games.

His injuries arent likely to get any better with age.

Conca's disposal is disgraceful, that's what lets him down, not his body.

Pick 6- nailed it  :lol
