The Tackle: Minor flaw Tom Lynch needs to eradicate

It might be nitpicking, but Robbo has noticed an annoying flaw in star Tiger Tom Lynch’s game that the big forward must fix.

Haven't read it but I've noticed plenty of flaws.

Poor at ground level, doesn't tackle or chase. If he doesn't mark the ball he doesn't provide enough follow up.

Can't read it, but plays from behind an awful lot for a key forward. Our forwards coach needs to remind him that he's 6'6" and built like a brick poohouse. Get in front Tom!

Yep, could take a leaf out of Jack's book - who IMO is one of the best forward leads of the era. Generally under-sized as a KPF and not blessed with great leg speed but approaching 700 snags. All due to smarts, a good leap and great kicking technique.

Darling, Kennedy both seemed to be in front of their man in nearly every contest on the weekend.

Sam Reid had Short on him at stages on the weekend.

Harry McKay outmarked Pickett in round 1.

Our forwards never seem to have a mismatch, or be one on one.

The article was in Slobbo's "dislikes" and is about Lynch trying to take too many one-handed marks. :shh

Which is what you have to do when an opponent is holding the other arm.

Quote from: Slobbo
4. STOP THE ONE-HANDERS

Tommy Lynch has a minor flaw. He is a powerhouse forward and opposed to Tom McCartin on Saturday, was meritorious after half time when the match was done. His penchant to try to mark one-handed, however, is small facet of his game that he needs to eradicate. It’s not the first time this is on the radar. Lynch likes to use his strength to hold his ground behind his opponent. He uses an arm to keep position, but doesn’t release that arm when the ball arrives over the back, meaning too often he leans back and tries to mark the ball one-handed. It was a Wayne Carey speciality, but not even Carey could consistently take one-handers. It might be nitpicking, but I reckon every coach in every grade in every year played has said: “Two hands on the ball.’’ And sometimes, Lynch’s strength lends itself to giving a free kick away. He gave away two free kicks on Saturday and has given away seven for the season, which is the equal most for key forwards along with West Coast’s Oscar Allen and Brisbane’s Joe Daniher.

One of his worst games he had played.

I don’t understand why when other teams are getting it in quick to forwards leading why he continues to stay stationary. He needs to get some momentum and smash some packs.

He needs to have a good hard look at himself.
The club that keeps giving.

Stinker.

Slow.

Poor with his hands.

Always playing behind.

Doesn't seem to read the ball drop well at all.
