What did you make of that decision from the umpire?

Giving James Sicily a 50m penalty after Tim Taranto ran in, retaliating to a shove the Hawthorn captain made on Tigers teammate Maurice Rioli Jr. #AFL

It was against hawthorn so we should bee thankful our player wasn't suspended for daring to breathe in the same space as a hawthorn player. AFL bias alive and well.

Typical Sicily. Pathetic by the umpire.

Got no issue with what Taranto did.

"What you don't want as a young side, is to be pushed around." - Hird

"You can't have meek leaders." - Bartel

Why Hirdy and Bartel believe it's a good sign that Tim Taranto flew the flag for his teammate, even if it cost a 50m penalty & goal.

Yze also backed Tim Taranto despite the experienced midfielder gifting Hawthorn a goal by shoving James Sicily over and giving away a 50-metre penalty.

Sicily had thrown Maurice Rioli to the ground after catching the Tiger holding the ball, and Taranto rushed in to remonstrate.

Most players on the ground became involved in the ensuing melee.

"One hundred per cent, he's got to fly the flag," Yze said.

"Sicily's a fiery character and he got into one of our younger players, so for our vice-captain to step in and fly the flag ... there's obviously a method to it.

"But as a coach, when one of your players is going in to help one of your younger players and fly the flag and lead by example ... he might have overstepped it but I'd rather him do that than not go in there at all."

"Very unusual free kick!" 👀

A free kick for a throw leads to a Pies goal right on three-quarter time.

They’ve gotta stop paying this super soft down field free kicks because the person with the footy was bumped/pushed 0.00001 seconds after they released the footy. It’s getting out of hand.

The Kangaroos had a slice of luck late when the controlling umpire was unwilling to pay a free kick against Luke Davies-Uniacke for insufficient intent. The North star appeared to deliberately fumble the ball over the boundary line in the back pocket but got away with it, helping to run down the clock as North held onto their slender lead.

Richmond coach Adem Yze speculated whether a different decision might have been forthcoming earlier in the game.

“Whether it is because it is a tight game ... it’s always a hard one,” Yze said. “I reckon ‘Clarko’ might have heard me yell out. You get frustrated with that sort of stuff because if it was early in the game they might have paid it. It is what it is as it is. [It’s] a hard one to umpire the best of times; that rule.”

A couple of weeks ago, Norf booted the ball through the goals, the umpire paid a free kick against the Bombers, and within seconds he got 'word' that his decision was wrong.

A ball hits McGovern on the foot, bounces into the ground then goes over the boundary line and is paid on the full. How come that umpire didn't get word immediately, that it was not a free kick to Sydney?

Richmond midfielder Jacob Hopper blows up after Peter Wright ‘gifted’ goal during Dreamtime at the ‘G

Jacob Hopper pleaded and pleaded but was told to go away.

Richmond midfielder Jacob Hopper blew up at an AFL umpire during his side’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash after Essendon big man Peter Wright kicked a crucial goal late in the third quarter.

Wright took full advantage of a forward-50 throw-in when no Richmond player nominated for the ruck, and the boundary umpire gave a shallow throw.

The Bombers key forward, who pinch-hits in the ruck at times, came charging in to grab the ball out of the air unopposed and immediately snapped a goal.

It was a pivotal moment of the quarter that gave Essendon the lead back in a see-sawing battle.

“What happened? Adem Yze will not be able to believe that,” James Brayshaw said.

Walking back to the middle alongside the central umpire, a fuming Hopper pleaded his team’s case, only to be told that no Richmond player nominated, so Wright had to be given a free run at the ball.

“Yeah, yeah, but the throw, the throw, that’s what I’m talking about,” Hopper protested, saying the boundary umpire should have been asked to throw the ball in again.

“The throw was horrific. You can call that back.

“That is horrific. You’ve just given them... it’s a goal. It’s a gift.”

The umpire did his best to diffuse the situation.

“We’ll talk about it,” he said.

“Go back to your group.”

On the above re throw ins

Been a constant this season, boundary umps not being able to throw the ball in and it falling short

But I'm sure the AFL will say nothing to see here, games in great shape

That may be true but absoultely ridiculous that not 1 player thought to defend the goal side when they knew we wouldn’t have a ruck contesting. Wright had all the time in the world to snap that through after collecting the ball.
