Robbie Tarrant shared the tough role on 250-game milestone man Jack Darling with young Josh Gibcus, and excelled.

“A number of times I thought Robbie Tarrant showed why they have recruited him,” commentator Gerard Healy praised.

Always thought Gibcus was too small for him but Dimma wanted him to have a go before making the swap which he seems to do most weeks.

A shame as soon as Tarrant finds form those around him decide to lose their bottle. Trying to look for a positive out of this debacle. For mine, Robbie was our only consistent four quarter performer today.

Tarrant had 14 disposals, a game-high 10 intercepts, game-high 13 one-percenters and took five marks.

Most importantly, he kept his opponent, strong Suns key forward Levi Casboult, goalless.

I always thought it would take 10 or more games for Tarrant to get the system. But the backline needs another 200 games into Gibcus.

It's a shame that he's looking the goods but the rest of the team is faltering. Should have been a Brian Lake pickup to keep us going for another couple of seasons.

Valuable veteran key defender Robbie Tarrant must surely be charging home in the 2022 Jack Dyer Medal count.

You could mount a strong argument that Tarrant has been Richmond’s most consistent player over the course of the past couple of months.

He has negated every opponent he’s played on and conceded precious few goals throughout that time.

In last night’s draw with Fremantle at Marvel Stadium, Tarrant kept a quality opponent in Matthew Taberner to just eight disposals and one goal.

Tarrant, himself, had 14 disposals, three rebound-50s, five intercepts, six one-percenters and took eight marks.

Yep. Who would have thought that this fumbling cumbersome player from the first half would have sprouted wings like this in the past few weeks.
It’s like that Cats game where he busted a knuckle and had that massive contest in their goal square turned his season around because he hasn’t looked back.
Genuinely happy for him, seems like a nice bloke off the field.
