Gunna say it again so good to have such a good decision maker and ball user coming thru.
Not sure why people talk about his tank so much it his size more than anything that is stopping him atm.Still another pretty steady game from the kid.

15 touches in the first half, 5 in the second.

Looked tired to me.

Needs a bigger tank like you'd expect of any first year mid.

Yep, not sure how size is the concern when he can clearly rack it up at AFL level (15 to halftime)

Sonz is fitting nicely into our senior team. So much poise and footy IQ for a first year player who has only played a few AFL games. May even be a sneaky chance for the rising star nomination this week with 20 possies.

20 disposals (12k, 8h, 8c, 11u, 60% eff.)
2 marks
1 tackle
1 clearance
3 inside 50s
4 intercepts
289 metres gained
9 score involvements
1 goal assist
83% time on ground

Keeper
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The lack of strength and size is stopping him atm but hey you keep the glasses on .

Not criticising him in fact have been screaming for him to be played all year just stating an area that just about all first year players need to work on.

Yes, all of our mids lack the body & the tank to dominate, but what do people expect of first year players?  They aren't going to be instant strong-men performing Herculean feats of strength!  These are 19yo kids playing against men, of course they aren't up to it yet!  Cotchin's first 3 years were similarly weak & intimidated, now he is a bulldozer & has been for years now.  Dusty was a rare gem who had a body from the beginning, not too many 19yo players are like him.
The new boys are doing pretty well in their first year(s), fast forward to a midfield with the speed & evasiveness of Bolton with the freakish skilled tackling machine MRJ by his side, throw in the pure silk of a Sonsie with the running power of Banks, the goal sense of Clarke & the gut running of Banks & Brown!
It may not all turn out so perfectly but the building blocks are there now.  We need to develop these guys to become the players we want them to be & stop expecting them to be pop up stars right now.
Claw, you do this to every kid we draft, how about letting them develop & grow before expecting them to dominate the AFL?  Does it make you feel big to put players down?

Ok, ‘weak’ might be a bad choice of words.  But in Cotchin’s first 3 years he spent more time in the medical room than on the field.  He had major body issues to overcome - surgery on both hips, repeat hamstrings & achilles issues in those first three years.  There was never a doubt about his ability or willingness but he had doubts about his own body for a time there.
See how it worked out for us?  That’s why we have to give young players a few chances ….

Are you precious or something you make sound like he is being criticised. Basically all i have said is he lacks strength and size and that more than anything is what is holding him back atm. I bought this up as a reason for why he is a bit in and out of games rather than his motor which is what is consistently bought up. Sure as a first year player his motor will improve also but atm he is batting out of his league in the physically ready stakes. Why do people get so blinkered when common sense is all thats required.

Both his motor and his strength/size will naturally improve with more preseasons. Both non issues - nothing to get worked up about fellas.

Ah ok. Yes I remember the Achilles issues. Forgot about hip surgery.

Same with Grimes. He did so many hammies early I swore he was doomed to be a 35 game player then retire.

Sonsie is doing well anyway. Years will give him size and tank and he'll be great.

Given he's wanted to see improvement in his defensive game, Dimma will be very happy with Tyler Sonsie having 22 pressure acts..(our 4th best behind Prestia, Rioli & KMac) on the weekend. Development.

Ran 15.2km as well, third most of any tiger and 5th on the ground.

Also 9 score involvements, second most on the ground. Having an impact!
