Finally the season officially starts tonight. It feels like lackluster start to the season with these 2 weekend games but oh well footy is footy.
-
Yeah I'm really keen for this to start. The NAB cup was fun because it was footy back, but now it's the real stuff. Bring it on.
-
Bahaha hope the Crows demolish them.
-
Crows 22-0 up 7 left in the first. :help
Bomberblitz will be in meltdown :lol :rollin :lol

It was the chic that tossedvhe coins fault! O'h that's right, she didn't toss it :lol :lol
-
Geez Adelaide and Bumbers both look ordinary. Crows looked a million bucks early but nothing since

Hasnt been any stand out players even though Watson and Peppell have got a lot of ball

Umpires doing pretty well for essendon, BOG so far
-
Gotta queation Crows game plan, ereally weird patterns coming up the and across half back
-
Adelaide could be the slider, and another reason we need to beat Carlton is to ensure we don't lose touch with teams like Essendon.
-
Tex will need another forward to step up and help take some of the pressure in the forward line.
-
Adelaide is crap
We smashed them at the end of 2011 and were belting em with injuries in our 2012 game. Essendon won't play finals. We'll beat Adelaide at the G
-
Sliding rule is going to stop me watching non-Richmond games. Just terrible rule to cover other poo rules that they made up on the fly previously. Well done AFL. :clapping

I agree. The two times Dangerfield got pinged for it were a total joke. He wasn't trying to hurt anyone, just attacked the footy legitimately and one time Stanton just stood there and waited for the contact. He knew very well and made gestures to Dangerfield immediately to hurry up and give him the ball.

hopefully the AFL sees sense and plucks it off as it shows up to be an utterly stupid rule,, cant protect the head and the legs!!

Gee I can't stand the EFC
My hatred for them is up there with the scum
Lets hope they don't get a run on and get their confidence up

Big win by the bummers.
I thought they'd get flogged by at least 40+ tonight and I thought I was right by quarter time.
Again I was completely wrong with my assumption Or may have massively overrated the crows.
I reckon the dockers should win tonight and if I'm wrong again I may as well give up on my footy tipping.
-
On the topic of Freo v WCE, Clarke missing through injury. Sandilands, Hannath, Bradley, Griffin there and I believe out of contract end of 2013. Would love to get him over.
-
Soooo many bloody free kicks
-
Soooo many bloody free kicks
yet can't pay an obvious one to Pav who never had the ball lol
-

Not actually sure what's going on half the time lol. They've rooted the game.
-
I just tuned in. Whats happened to Pav they are talking like his struggling.
-
Yeah he is bit.
Lecras probably broken arm, Shuey getting smashed. Off to another ripping start in Supercoach :help
-
So a 28 pt win to the dockers. Sounded like they played well from the sen coverage.
We have to play them twice and im concerned, not because of tonight but I think we could lose both if not careful.
Just dont want a repeat of last year at the G, that was the worst game I ever sat through. Almost as bad as the loss to blues in 2011 100 pt one that is.
-

Nothing I've seen this pre-season from us suggests to me that we'll beat Freo over there or here. Granted West Coast had a few out, but Freo managed to collect themselves after getting blown out of the blocks then turning it around and putting West Coast to the sword. We go over there twice too. I'm going to pencil the two games there and one here in as loses. Two of them in the first 10 rounds which is why I'm not as optimistic as some are about how we'll go this year.
-
After the first 20 mins Freo swamped them. It was like I was watching St Kilda in the years making the GF. If anything they were more manic than St Kilda and don't have as many C graders as St Kilda did. Scary as they will be hard to beat over there and will beat a lot of sides away from Subi.
We have only one draw from 9 attempts against a side coached by Ross Lyon. We do not adapt well to the defensive press of his. Freo will be a top 4 side this year barring injuries. They are going to be scary and so annoying with that game style.
-
Good point, I hope we can win one of them but I doubt it too. I think we will have a red hot crack like last year and I think we will probably have improved since last year but I think most clubs have. From what ive seen so far this year yes we do have depth and yes our good are great but its those bottom 6 or sothat im concerned about and only when I see players earn their spot and they are not gifted will I truly believe.
Disregard tonights performance I would still have freo top 6 this year and west coast too. Howevern im not tipping WC for premiers I think pies will win it this year.
-
Geez Freo were good. Was comparing them to Adelaide in first half but that speed of Hill and Pearce really cut WC to shreds. Pearce looks like being a great pick up. Just needed to get outta Port. :whistle
-
Doggis have started well 24 - 4 at the half way mark of the first quarter.
-
Doggis have started well 24 - 4 at the half way mark of the first quarter.
Yeh what a hoot if they beat the Lions although they will probably get rolled
Go rainsey
-
Wait what? But what about pre-season form? :rollin :lol
-
Make that Dogs 37 to Bris 5 lol.
-
Looks like there is a decent size crowd.
Lions hit back with the first couple of goals in the 2nd quarter Western bulldogs just got one back.
45 - 18
-
Brissy will win by less than a kick leaving it very late on to hit the front for the first time to put the puppies to sleep officially for season 2013.
-
hopefully the dogs hang on for the win and deny Brisbane 4 points. Brisbane is one of the teams in line for a position in the eight so them missing out on 4 points would be a good thing.
-
Doggies up by 38 points at half time
Lions were terrible in the first half. More like the bears of old ;D
-
Maybe they are not as good as their pre season form suggests.
A lot of flankers in that side.
Reminds me of Walla$$.
I can see your point Ramps.
However rather than focusing on what others have done, are doing or will do I firmly believe if we focus on what we need to do and not worry about others then we will fulfil our plans which is far more satisfying. :thumbsup
-

Losing to a team that most of the other teams that are fighting for a top 8 position will win could cost any team at the end of the season. It mainly depends on the Lions draw though. I haven't looked at their fixture but they might face gc, port and gws more times than other teams fighting for a spot in the top 8 which will help them make up for the 4 points if they lose today.
.
-
Brissy certainly would have GC twice each season.
-
They play
GCS
Melbourne
Geelong
Bulldogs
North melbourne
Twice
Not as easy as some may think
-
Didn't see that coming at all. Dogs won 127 - 59 :o. Only 7 Lions had more than 15 possies. Did Brisbane think they only had to turn up to win? Anyway as Ramps said a good result for us.
I know you can't really judge preseason results but perhaps this thumping win by the Dogs over Brisbane puts a new perspective on our win over the Dogs two weeks back in the wet. Perhaps it wasn't as terrible as we all thought at the time.
-
A game of massive momentum swings in Sydney. Swannies jumped out of the blocks to a 5 goal lead before the Giants pegged them back to take the lead and now the Swans have kicked out again to 61-34 lead at half-time.
-
Giants actually looking like an AFL team at the moment.
-
Not any more. Fumble ball now.
-
30 point loss for the Giants. Not a bad result looked like they'd get smashed by 10+ goals at times
-
GC up by 4
Half way through the last
Come on GC
-
Saints might be too rooted next Friday. This game is really taking a toll on them.

-
Ablett what a champion and well done to the GC suns getting a win on the board early in the season that will give them some confidence.

It is a bit humid up here tonight. Not "shocking" by normal standards but definitely a bit more than normal for this time of year.
-
Getting concerned about rd17
-
Brisbane were pox today. It was like watching richmond in years gone by.
The crowd was that small you could hear the players talk on the field from the top deck.
Really hard to gauge too much about footscray from the game, but without a lot of pressure they were clinical.
Thank stuff for beer at the footy, though, it made the game bearable.
-
You've been attending a lot of footy this weekend, papa. Would have been nice if you offered me the chance to come too. Schulzy returns tomorrow. Showdown with Chippa Frawley :shh Matty Dea is stopping people in the street over this
-
Sorry, for some reason i thought you were in tassie.
Back home tomorrow, perhaps next time?
-
I am in Tassie atm. You could have at least rung to see if I was interested. Next time you're in Melbourne I will have to come up for a few coldies with the old man + a Tigers victory. Uncle Smokey should come too. Mail is BJ won't get an invite in his mail. mail
Regards,
Mailman Dave
-
Its hard to read how much Port have improved but they are winning easily against Melb who look terrible.
45 - 82
-
How is this crap joke of a club able to stay in the AFL? They would be lucky to have 20,000 supporters there, made a mockery of the comp by ridiculously trading for and drafting absolute potatoes, and get belted like this against another minnow club. Melbourne are the biggest rot in the AFL.
-
Port are a good club. Were always going to improve after a good pre-season with a good new coach. We should target #28 to partner Vicks and Jack
-
Yeah bit unfortunate Melbourne had to play Port first up. Unlucky they didn't get to coast into the season against Collingwood or something.
-
Port just had free players to kick to all game. Are demon's not chasing or are they attempting some zoning defense that's just getting ran and picked through very easily by really another bottom 5 team in Port.
-

Wines and Viney leading contested with 16 each speaks volumes. Nothing to take from that other than Melboune might be more woeful than last year.

No, they will be fine. They recruited Dawes, Byrnes and Rodan. Give them time to gel ;D
-
Collingwood showing off the class of their depth. Would love to tempt over someone like Elliott with the promise of game time.

Don't forget Pedersen also. Will be a valuable pick up for Casey at some stage of the year.
What odds on him for the Liston. :shh

Melbourne now displaying all the benefits that tanking brings to the culture of a club. Sooooo wish we had gone down that path instead of instilling a win at all cost regardless of the circumstance attitude.

LOL Smokey, dont drag up the great taking debate again.
On another note looks like we will be ninth at the end of this round, and yeh I know its where we end up at the end of the H&A that matters.

Serious question Coach, was it a legitmate mark?
I know it was given a mark and it was fantastic grab but struth it looked like he took it behind the line & goal posts
Did they review it?
-
Coachy didn't see it, was getting a haircut.
They reviewed, saw he was in the cheer squad when he took it, a clear goal, but called "inconclusive". Rightly so IMO.

Hawks was all over them before the last couple of minutes before half time when Geelong got a quick couple goals back.

Will Neeld last the year? That's the question.
To be honest I see a lot of them in us. Wasted draft picks.
God knows why they picked up Byrnes, Rodan, Dawes, shocking
-
I feel for any Melbourne recruit just as I've felt for any player drafted by us in the last 10 years.
When a club has awful culture, bad recruiters, no development, no heart and stupid people running it then new recruits have no hope.
Tell me Tambling would've been a dud if drafted to the hawks or the pies?
I highly doubt it.
Richmond has ruined a lot of players careers just as Melbourne continue to do.
Thank goodness we are finally getting it right.
-
If Neeld's pre-game speech was anything to go :facepalm, the Melbourne players looked bored and disinterested listening to him. Not a single word or even a "c'mon" to pump themselves up leaving the room. At least the Dees trained well over summer or so they keep telling everyone :lol :wallywink.
This has been a training drill for Essendon. Talk about bruise free footy with red and blue witches hats :sleep. They'll win by 25 goals plus at this rate and be on top of the ladder :chuck.

Agree,
And when I looked at that score it just made me feel really dissapointed for. Their fans and to see them. Get beaten up by that wanker bunch from essendon. I think GWS will beat them in a couple of weeks, but I honestly hope that doesn't happen
-
What a disgrace
-
Absolutely loving this. Even GWS put up a fight until fitness and inexperience let them down. If GWS get them in two weeks it might be lights for Neeld :lol
And to think only 3 or so years ago I thought of Melbourne as a year ahead of us in terms of development. Just goes to show how fast things can go south if you stuff up crucial footy dept decisions.
-
Not sure what Neeld can do to improve the demons. You would of thought after pre-season training and a lose like they suffered last week they would of shown abit more of a fight tonight.
We better flog the demons when we play them. Good percentages booster.

Reckon he should have backed his young players and recruited more instead of trading them for nuffers like Dawes. It's not like anyone insisted they shoot up the ladder at all costs. Win/loss wise we were no different under Dimma at the start, but no one expected otherwise and the recycled blokes we brought in were all at minimal cost and at no expense of drafting more youth.
-
Poor Jones. Wouldn't mind him in a Tiger jumper.

We showed more in 2011 than what Neeld has so far this season. I agree on the trading they would of been better of just drafting and seen how they went.

Dees' forum in meltdown :rollin
This club is a disgrace. It is bruise free football.
Last week I was disappointed with the showing against Port. Today I am, like another poster wrote, ashamed.
I vowed to stick through all this at the end of round 1, however, after tonight, I will be posting my membership & my sons membership back to the club & my son can pick his own team to follow when he feels like it.
I will always be a Demon, but I will not let my 3yo go through what all of us go through ever season.

Rock Bottom.
They've all got to go.
Neeld's pre-match address was mind-bogglingly inept. Poor bloke's lost the dressing room. Got no idea.
McLardy, Schwab ... on yer bikes. Resign now for the good of the club.
Or we go the way of Fitzroy.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The AFL will have to step in the MFC is incapable of running itself properly.

This Melbourne v GWS game in a fortnight takes on the significance our the Richmond v Melbourne game in round 4 in Wallace last year.
We will know 100% then if the players actually care one bit. If not Neeld is dead man walking.
For me right now GWS are favourites in that one.

:lol I was flicking between both (as in the games) but didn't notice anything. Sure you were watching the footy? ;D

I feel very sorry for Mark Neeld but he made one huge mistake when he took the demons job and that is that he took the job in the first place. At Richmond we may have been rabble for the best part of 3 decades but Richmond is Richmond. Richmond FC is a huge club the rewards huge for the bloke who wins our next flag as coach. What was in it for Neeld at Melbourne? I didnt think his pre match address was poor he simply asked for what most of us ask for from ourselves in our lives - to show some respect to ourselves in how we go about it, to show respect to the people around us, to have a fair dinkum go in life and give it our best. His players are a disgrace. They showed no pride, no respect for themselves or their teammates or their coaches. For me the problem at Melbourne is that they have no leadership. Who is running that club? Has the President ever been in a successful sporting environment? Cameron Schwab has never been involved in a flag as a CEO. Neeld was only ever just a player, not a premiership in sight. They recruited Rawlings and Craig - good blokes but wheres the success.
I remember about 4 years ago we were at the same level as the Demons but we had worse draft picks so in effect we were in a much worse position. Where we have succeeded is with the appointments, first of Hardwick and Gale and then the likes of Blair Hartley. Frank Jackson has started to get his selections right and we are away. Melbourne instead are recruiting like flogs, so reminiscent of us when we were chucking out first round selections for the likes of Rory Hilton and Craig Biddiscombe. Anyway I think Melbourne are gone as a club they should try and merge with North Melbourne.
As for us we should try and save Jack Viney. The kid deserves better in his footy life. He would be much happier in a yellow and black jumper playing infront of the Tiger Army.
-
Good post Ramps and couldn't agree more, the players are the real disgrace combined with recruiting of pea heart players
-
Good post Ramps.
I for one will not revel in another clubs self destruction as this has been the plight of Richmond supporters for years. ( unless of coarse it's the cheating scum! ;D )
It's terrible to see a team so non competitive and disinterested.
The fish rots from the head!.
Schwab has to go.
They can do with a whole clean out in fact.
Sometimes all it takes is one person to identify the stain of mediocrity that is throughout the club and start fixing the cultural issues first.
It takes someone to stand up and lead he club with clear vision for the future.
B Gale had a vision that might have been outrageous when he first mooted it but he had a bold plan and a mission on how to achieve it. His vision doesn't look so unbelievable now.
I bet they're kicking themselves they didn't bring Sheedy into the club.

No joke at half time the cut to the Crows rooms and Henderson walks into camera pulls his pants down and starts playing with it. Fox left it on the screen for a good 5 seconds. :lol
Funniest part was the previous image was of the Crows running around on the ground so it was obviously a replay that they felt was appropriate to put on. :lol :lol

Yep, had made it to YouTube last night but can't find it now

It wouldn't have mattered who coached Melbourne. I know I've banged on about it ad nauseum in the past and some on here poo-pah the presence or value of culture in a club but Melbourne bred a culture of cheating and taking shortcuts over a number of years and the current outcome was never going to be any different. We are prime examples of culture change bringing about real change. Back in the 80's we had an arrogance about us that was breathtaking in it's scope, if not unsustainable in the modern day. We assumed the 'right to rule' as if it was born to us and all we needed to do was no more than turn up each season with our fat wallets and our God-given inheritance would remain intact. Well, history shows that the attitude was a cancerous culture that permeated every minute corner of the club and it has taken many failed attempts, false starts, return trips to rehab and just plain old turns of luck before we got a group of hard-working and committed people in charge of our club who actually invested themselves (not just their egos) in making change. And that change has taken us 8 years already and is still nowhere near complete!
Other clubs have tanked in the past, most for a crucial few games in a single season and then reaped the immediate rewards as they addressed a need and got on with the business of winning. Good luck to them. Melbourne however took it to another level and tanked for a number of years, always chasing the next clutch of prized draft picks in the belief that more must be better. The only other clubs I can remember that had such a cheating culture for such a long period were Carlton and Essendon. Carlton cheated the cap and paid the price for many years. Even now, they pay the price with membership levels lower than they should be, supporters less loyal than they should be, team success less than it should be and a reputation that has not recovered and won't do so for many years yet. Essendon cheated the cap through the 90's, got caught at the turn of the century and after their 2000 flag they haven't won since, with the club being embroiled in a number of controversies since. And in that time their power base has gradually eroded and they are still mired in controversy and uncertainty. A negative outcome from the ASADA enquiry will see them trashed as a club for many more years to come.
Some people say that culture is not tangible, not measurable and in the long run not really that important but I believe differently. Culture embraces many things - attitude, respect, effort, teamwork among them - and it is the very cornerstone that underpins the long term viability and success of a football club. When positive attitude becomes second nature, when respect is earned and given unconditionally, when best effort happens all the time, when teamwork is woven into the fabric of the club from the president to the bootstudder, then you have a club that will succeed and succeed often over many years. Whether we like it or not, this is the modern way, not the way of years past with no salary cap, no draft, inequeal zones and a league run by a few powerful presidents instead of an independent commission. And that makes club culture so much more important in the modern era - you can't buy premierships any more, you can't vote yourself an advantage any more, you can't thumb your nose at your opponents any more. Culture beats these hands down, every day.
So it is no surprise to me to see Melbourne where they are and it isn't Neeld's fault or Craig's fault or even the players fault individually, it is a natural consequence of putting cheating over culture. I wonder how many of those Demon supporters that chortled as they sang their song when McMahon kicked that winning goal are still chortling today?

I would have thought Scott should have had a whinge about the ill-discipline of one of his leaders in Faritto (sp?) giving away a stupid 50 metre penalty in the final qtr that gifted the cas the winning goal rather sooking about the elements
Or better still sook about his side choking away a 7 goal lead.
He really is a perfect fit for n0rt, N0rt suffers from plom disease so it seems does their coach

It was only last week n0rf flogs were digging us about choking on web forums and facebook and stuff. They were even all smug at half time on the AFL Facebook page today. Suffer.
Diddums about the roof. Pies v Blues had to cop a bit of water at the G too. Can n0rf Scott go a week without having a sook about something?

Next weekend a few games should show where teams are really at.
Essendon vs Fremantle.
GWS vs St kilda
GC vs lions
Port vs Adelaide.
-
Thing with Port is, if they get an under performing Adelaide off guard (likely), they'll continue to 4-0 with GC the week after.
-
How is Adelaide being caught off guard for a Showdown after their poor round 1 and Port sitting 2 and zip and playing good footy likely? I'd say the Crows will be unlikely to be caught off guard with those form lines, they'll be right up for it, and I'll be tipping them.

Not sure what AFL can do to help them with their on-field success surely they can't reward them a priority pick after fining them for tanking.
ANDREW Demetriou has expressed his concern over Melbourne's lack of competitiveness and said the AFL was ready to help if the club asked for assistance.
One week after a 79-point loss to Port Adelaide, the Demons were humiliated against Essendon on Saturday night to the tune of 148 points.
It was the third biggest defeat in the club's history and largest ever at the MCG and their percentage of 28.39 is the AFL's lowest after two rounds in almost 30 years.
Melbourne coach Mark Neeld and chief executive Cameron Schwab are under enormous pressure and Demetriou admitted the situation was "disheartening" for Demons supporters.
Speaking during a visit to Greater Western Sydney's new home base at Sydney Olympic Park, Demetriou said the AFL was ready and willing to assist Melbourne if it asked for it.
"In a competition where you want every team to be competitive, it's not where we would like Melbourne to be," the AFL CEO said.
"As a Melbourne supporter, that's the most disheartening (thing).
"They're a club that was established in 1858; they're the oldest club in the land that we know of, and everyone wants to see them succeed.
"Hopefully there's people at the club that understand what needs to be done to turn it around, and any support that we can offer, we will."
On Monday morning, Melbourne president Don McLardy wrote an open letter to Demon fans imploring them to stick with the club and stating there would be no knee-jerk reactions to their current plight.
"We do not believe that the results to date are a true reflection of the quality of our playing list, or the effort and improvement they have shown over a tough and demanding pre-season campaign," he wrote.
But Demetriou is clearly worried by the situation, suggesting Gold Coast and GWS may have gone past the Demons.
"If you look at the way our two newest clubs are going, the Giants on Saturday night (against Port Adelaide) and of course the Gold Coast Suns, they've performed particularly well and probably ahead of people's expectations," he said.
"If you look at Melbourne, it's going to be hard. They're struggling at the moment, and hopefully they turn it around because they need to.
"Everyone at Melbourne would understand they've got their rightful place in the competition and we all want to see improvement.
"We're all desperate to see the Melbourne Football Club improve."

And the maggots wonder why there is no respect. That free against Barlow was a free to him a thousand times over in the NAB Cup and first round. Gieschen and the umpires are a bloody disgrace. Leave the f'in rules alone!!
-
The new 'into the legs' rule was always a joke. Tonight is just further proof. Umps can't judge what is what. Is it a free for high to one side or is it into the legs to the other side?
A good game for us to study the strengths and weaknesses of Freo's gameplan under Lyon. We play them in two weeks. Bombers back in the game by pushing large numbers into the midfield and around the stoppages to win the contested footy, keeping the ball moving forward and then leaving the forward line open to run unto any long quick kick. Almost Pagan's paddock with no one inside forward 50.
-
The umpiring is disgusting in this match.
From deliberate out of bounds to knees and heads. This is crap. :help
-
Stuff me the cheats won, must be vitamins that kick in after half time
-
I want to ask fellow OERites.
If Essendon were to win a flag heaven forbid or make finals and the ASADA investigation concluded in November and found 20 players were guilty and are suspended where does that leave the competition? Surely if you lost to them in a GF or any final you would be peed and if you finished 9th you would be peed also. Would make a total mockery of the comp.
This competition is a farce ATM. From the admin to the umpiring to the Essendon situation. :help
I cannot believe that they won. :help
-
If Mayne hit the post to lose against us the media would carry on how we were lucky and Freo lost the game. But it's the bomber babies, and it's going to be how their dearest pets overcame adversity. Well that's how the Herald Sun will go anyway.
-
Stuff me! I can't believe it. I sat through four quarters of this ugly, congested rugby garbage, just so I could see the Bummers get the smashing they so richly deserve, (which was looking well on track at half-time). And the cheating junkie scum actually get up and win :banghead . Two points: One - I hope ASADA and the AFL hurry up and finish their investigation, and when they find Essendumb guilty, I hope they react swiftly, brutally and mercilessly. And Two: I can't wait for the AFL to HURRY UP and put a cap on the number of interchanges, and bring an end to this constipated BASTARDISATON of our great game. I wont be satisfied until Ross Lyon's career will be cleaning the toilets at Flinders Street Station.
-
right with you Tucker, if it wasnt for Richmond i'd have given up years ago. AFL has a monopoly on footy now, they've destroyed the VFA/VFL and have left no other options.
We need a breakaway competition, ala, world series cricket, to shake the whole bloody administration up and give the game back to the fans.
i reiterate i plucken hate Essendon :banghead

Don't you think it's odd Tucker the investigations concluded quickly for Cronulla yet is dragging on till seasons end for the bombers.
My gut feel is they will be found guilty then miss the off season. AFL is a big business, too big for a club like Bombers to not play out this season.
-
I hope we beat them at Dreamtime.
Take that smug aloof smirks off their faces.
Is there a sand pit big enough for all their heads? :nope
-
I hate this football club and everything about it.
I hope We destroy them and while the smile off their face.
I don't forget the times Lloyd destroyed us, hands in the back game,
screw them I'm angry
Free pathetic.
-
It's in our hands at Dreamtime and gee I hope we beat them round 23.
Last thing I think we all need is needing to beat them in round 23 to make finals and we don't only for them to make it and seeing to head in the sand looks saying 9th again only for the ASADA investigation to still be lingering with
As I have said the leadership of this competition has become a farce and the rank and file fan has lost their faith in the integrity of the running of the fairness of this competition.
-
Blame Freo. Their last 7 scoring shots were behinds.
The thing with Ross Lyon coached sides is they more often than not give you sniff if you can hang in there. They try to get a 4-5 goal early lead and then shut the game down and coast to low scoring win. It works most of the time but as St Kilda found out in three GFs it can come back to bite them if the opposition can get back into the game on the scoreboard in the second half. There's no plan B (eg: no switch to an all out attack keep the ball moving forward at all costs style as Essendon did to Freo after half-time). Anyway I'm sure Hardwick and our coaching staff will study the 'tape' of this game thoroughly in readiness for when we play Freo in just over two weeks time. Last year we just had no answer to them keeping the game in-close at the 'G in the wet and then we got smashed over at Subi even though the scoreboard said we only lost by 22 pts.
As for the Bombers, let's wait to see how they are doing in the second half of the year. Previous years have seen them explode out of the blocks in the first two months only to crash and burn from June to August as their lack of class especially through the midfield is exposed when the better sides start to crank it up.
-

Essendon shouldnt even be allowed to play finals footy if they get there. The AFL must strip these bastards of their points won and of there draft picks. Its a disgrace that they have been allowed to play for points in this years competition.

Can't agree with this. Robbo has been sprouting that there's nothing to see here all week so you can't pull the adversity card afterwards. :lol

Well said Ramps.
They should be stripped of all points come September but we all know that's not going to happen.
I've said it all along 2 things will happen.
If Asada find them guilty, then fine and sanction will begin conveniently in October
If not then then the AFL may charge them for bringing the game into disrepute, something that will no doubt begin in October, the off season.
The whole thing being allowed to drag on seems very odd to me.
Right now there is a fair chance we have a team in the competition who have illegally been administered banned substances yet are still competeting at the highest level.
IMO Andy D should step down as CEO for the AFL. His competition has turned into a complete farce.
He has lost control of all facets of the game
-
If Asada find them guilty, then fine and sanction will begin conveniently in October
You are kidding daniel
If ASADA find them guilty they will be punished immediately, that's their rules. They cannot strip them of points but they can suspend & fine players, officials and the club if they can prove who knew what was going on
You seem to think that they (ASADA) are somehow beholden to the AFL, they aren't, never have been, never will.
Part of me thinks the longer this takes the worse it is for the EFC, if there was hardly any eveidence then this would have been over quickly, reckon they are finding little things regularly and they are going to make this a massive test case to send a very big warning too other codes and clubs - mess with us at your peril
What is wrong with this whole process however, is the fact that Dank cannot be forced to speak to ASADA as part of the investigation simply because he is no longer employed in the industry. He can say what he likes to the media but doesn't have to speak to ASADA. :banghead

Well I don't agree and time will tell. Asada was very quick with Cronulla and CCM but this will take months. No worries!!
What I don't like is the fact 17 other clubs have played fair for 4 pts and this organization quite possibly have not, and if the findings are released in Sep they get to keep the 4 pts that they don't deserve while we may miss finals
-

Do tell me what have ASADA done to Cronulla exactly? Nothing
Cronulla is being investigated like Essendon, there has been no charges, no report, no penalties - nothing. So with all due respect daniel ASADA have done zilch to Cronulla. The Cronulla situation is similar to the EFC.
It was the Cronulla Boards that sacked 3 people, the doctor, the fitness bloke and someone else. They stood down their coach who by the way has now been re-instated and is currently coaching them again. It had nothing to do with ASADA
FWIW outside Cronulla ASADA are investigating 31 individual NRL players as opposed to specific clubs
-
I believe Essendon will be completely screwed shortly. When Andrew Demetriou comes out and says things could get extremely ugly and that he has had briefings that are not in the public domain as yet the only conclusion to draw is that Essedon are finished.
One thing that people should also consider is if you were an AFL player at Essendon and you thought you were given legal supplements (some essendon players believed they were given Vitamin B and C supplements only) and that wasnt the case but you were given other stuff, and you end up getting delisted by Essendon over the next 2 or 3 years what would you do? Personally I think players who are delisted or who leave the club will go straight to the Supreme Court looking for Damages and rightly so. Essendon will be up for millions of dollars if things go pear shaped for them.

Last 4 goals to the Cats to go from 16 pts down to 8 up. Will it be Blues 0-3 :pray.

GWS number 1 draft Patton has done his ACL. Terrible news for any young player.

Yep terrible news for the young bloke. You could hear in Richo's voice that he feels for Patton having gone through the same thing when he was early in his AFL career.
Cats up by 19 at half-time. Weird momentum game. Blues have started both quarters so far on fire and then get run over by Geelong. Marc Murphy is really struggling with the Carlton captaincy. Taylor Hunt who is meant to be tagging Murphy has kicked 3 goals on him.
Great to see North lost again. They were always pretenders and only snuck into the finals last year thanks to the soft draw they had. 0-3 now after conceding 11 goals in a quarter ..... yep real shinboner spirit there :rollin.

Bugger the nailbiter finish. I've missed 2 games in the tipping this weekend by a grand total of 6 points. And my margin in the West Coast game was 95 points! :'(

Anyone hear Brian Taylor after the Carlton game? After talking to someone from Geelong they go back to him and he says. "... Now lets speak to the losing side and down in the Tigers room is..." I think it was Darcy who you could hear correct him and correct him saying Carlton

I heard him say richmond than richo. It sounded like he mucked up saying richo's name with richmond.

How crazy is this Melb gets thrashed again granted by less that 100 points this week and their % goes UP. :gobdrop
28% to 35%

Geelong v Swans in Sydney. It'll be a good game I reckon.
-
Great game, cats will be tough to beat in a couple of weeks
-
Said it before, Cats are the hardest game of the next 3. Makes the other 2 look like a walk in the park. :shh
-
That was like an SCG game from the 80s at times. Whoever won the ball out of the centre scored. Very non-Swans like to have such a open free scoring game especially on their home turf. They were lost for ideas after half-time. If Sam Reid doesn't find form soon then he'll be the obvious one to be dropped for Tippett when he's allowed to play again.
Anyway a win today and further up the ladder we go :thumbsup.

My apologies MT
Indeed we could end up on top is Dons and Port lose?
:cheers

That would constitute the official state of "Lid's Off"!
;D

Port Essendon and Geelong remain as the only unbeaten teams.
The Filth had their first win in the Mick era against West Coast.
West Coast are now 1-3. :o

stuff me that was devastating day off footy. We lose. Pies, Bums and Blooz all win. Worst footballing nightmare weekend. :banghead

Giants have just hit the front 44 - 43 late in the 2nd qtr. Neeld would be very nervous :yep.
Edit: Beat me too it tigs :thumbsup.

5 straight goals to the Giants :lol
Up 56 - 43.

Also, Scully drilling a goal from outside 50 made me smile for some weird reason. ;D

At least Melbourne fans are enjoying themselves booing Scully. :lol

O'Helpme has 5 and GWS lead by 19 points at 3 quarter time lol.
If they hold their nerve we could be in for some more changes at Melbskata.
The Hairy Malaka may be on another coaching selection panel. :lol :rollin :lol

I hope the dees win or draw at the worst
No matter how much i dislike melbourne I dont want the manicured boy band to win and give Vlad the fat prik something to smile about with his skata grin

Woah look out for the Demon Juggernaut :shh

The lions got smashed by kangaroo's 125 - 62 it shows how much you can read into NAB cup form. Unless they start improving Vossy could be under pressure come near seasons end.

Tullamarine 40 Collingwood 36 half time.

Since the Collingwood come back Essendon have been receiving absolute charity from the umps.

See what happens to Cloke when you give the FB a chop out

That Bellchambers free against Reid was just terrible. Wouldn't give it in an Auskick game. :help
-
Since the Collingwood come back Essendon have been receiving absolute charity from the umps.
Eases the anger from last week's bias the other way. And i agree - Collingwood's karma has bitten it on the arse today, Bummers are getting a free ride.
-
"Here Bellchambers, have another kick."
-
"Here Stanton, you have won a free kick because you can't win anything else."
-
Is it me but especially after this drug scandal broke I puke everytime they win and they show that smug smile on James Hird's face.
I was dry reaching when Tim was interviewing Jobe.
The MCG just till the weekend is being renamed the MSP. Melbourne Sand Pit.

They've brought the game into disrepute
Need to put a * at the end of everything to do with them, Essendon*

Carlton flogging the Crows and it's only early into the 2nd qtr. Up 45- 11.
The Suns won the battle of the newbies.

Port gettin a prostate examination

And lovin it
-
What a great come back. Eagles have stopped
That burgess they got in the offseason is working wonders with their fitness.

Makes me sick how crap teams can turn it around after a few years on the bottom. Stuff Richmond.
-
Makes me sick how crap teams can turn it around after a few years on the bottom. Stuff Richmond.
I think the jury is still out on Port.
Melbourne nuff said.
GWS long way to go.
Adelaide a shadow of last years side but they got 24 premiership points gift wrapped last year.
Gold Coast again an expansion team
West Coast something fishy going on down there.
North at Etihad next week and then us at AAMI.
Sure they are rejuvinated and have improved but right now those five teams are hardly earth shattering in terms of difficulty though I will admit tonight was their best one in terms of opponent.
Port gettin a prostate examination
No they were in the harness on their knees the robe was being taken off their legs were apart the gloves were on the fingers were erect and West Coast decided to take them down off the bench and then wilfully pulled their own pants down and told Port to use them as they saw fit.
-
Lol so true and check out the age of their lists.
How can they have so much poise in that last minute compared to us.
-
we got too many buffoons running around in our side.

And I shouldn't be laughing because those wankers getting up cost our Punters Club $230! :'(
-
Dees and Lions equal qtr time.
Wonder how Vossy will go if they lose this one.
-
Gawd I thought we got some bad calls, Sylvia was all over Maloneys back, missed the ball by a mile and got the free cause Maloney was called for blocking when all he did was walk backwards while Sylvia used him as a launch pad.
And then the Lions finals specialist Raines misses from point blank.
-
This games is hurting my eyes, two of the most poorly skilled teams in the comp
-
lmao
davey dishes out 3 or 4 short jabs to the head and melbourne get 50m out of it
jabba the geish's retreads keep on shining

Al i know people like sam newman in the past have really given it to the umpires and umpiring, but i really think that this year the umpiring is very ,sub standard

I'm just glad Hawthorn hung on against Nort to keep the characterless fanless penniless club at 1-4 and for now at beyond arms length from us.
Boy our loss on Friday night hurts us more now considering the log jam of teams that are now on 3 wins and 2 wins. :banghead

Lenny Hayes won't be playing his apparently done a injury in the warm up. I'm tipping a big win by collingwood tonight after last weeks lose to the don's.
-
It felt like Ross Lyon was back coaching the Saints tonight. They really had a chance to knock over the Pies but they didn't have the ammo to make Collingwood pay when they had the momentum especially in the second qtr. Collingwood at the moment as gettable as Hawthorn and Essendon showed and tonight just reinforced how poorly we played against the Pies two weeks ago :scream.
As for Kosi - he's gonski as much as the Saints are. Minimum 3-4 weeks for that cheap shot.
-
Bombers 4 goals down at 1/4 time against the giants :pray
Here's hoping the nuts are loosening and wheels are about to come off :clapping
-
Giants 27 pts up on the Bombers :rollin
-
Giants still lead by 4 goals at half time
:dancing :dancing :dancing :dancing :dancing
-
Bombers have kicked the last 8 goals. The problem with a young side like the Giants is they run out of juice.
Edit: GWS finally gets one back. Ess 81 - GWS 63
-
I'm flicking between both games and the contrast in the quality of the broadcast is stark. I can't believe just how crap the Ch7 camera work and direction is - for a multi-million professional outfit it's a bloody disgrace.
-
Another 10 goal flogging for Brisbane. Voss will be under the pump once again.
-
Crazy Vossy looking shaky, win a per season cup and sacked in the same year.
He should have stayed at west coast as an assistant instead his ego
Got the better of him.
Gotta love Crazy Vossy!
-

Need to get on the juice
-
Not looking forward to playing Essendon in two weeks time. On current form we'll struggle against their speed and spread.
-
This game is playing out like our game verse Geelong.
-
I must have mozzed the Bombers ;D.
This game is playing out like our game verse Geelong.
Very true dwaino. Bombers lapse in the last 10 mins of the 2nd and let the Cats back in and then the Cats turn up the pressure and then made the Bombers pay for not taking their opportunities.
-
I'd still well and truly agree that Essendon are a better side than us right now, but not massive amounts. Our first halves against the best sides prove we're there abouts but something isn't clicking yet. Reckon we're a chance to win each of the next 4.
-
there is a god, thank you.
these drug cheats deserve everything thats coming to them.
well done Cats

I agree dwaino. Our best if sustained can beat anyone but right now on current form we can't sustain it for more than a half and are far from our best which is frustrating. Essendon have had a softer draw with games so far against the Crows, Melb, St K and GWS in the first 6 rounds but unlike us they've beaten Collingwood and got over the line against Freo at Subi so yeah they are ahead of us right now at 6-1. We both had similar losses to Geelong getting run over.
Anyway good to see the Bombers lose tonight :thumbsup.
-
Darn Pies coming back against Freo, they are such an over rated side
-

Gawn. Freo win by 27.
We have replaced Collingwood in the 8. :thumbsup
Hawks in a canter against Sydney.

Didn't watch any games tonight. But Sydney look ordinary this year IMO.

Geelongs new game plan:
It's time to start taking notice.
Since 2011, Chris Scott has been trying to develop a different approach to winning games.
The one stat that I noticed that is the most surprising to me is the clearances. Geelong sits 18th so far this year on clearance averages per game and having an average of approx. 8 clearances less than there opposition despite winning every single game this year.
Last year paints a similar picture with the cats having an average 4 less clearances than their opponent.
In there premiership year in 2011 only averaging 36 clearances per game.
The one stat they've dominated in their premiership year was their inside 50 entries averaging 14 more entries per game and this year averaging 8 more than their opposition sitting equal 1st with an average of 60 entries per game.
What is it that Geelong has discovered that other teams haven't?
As well as youth, the cats have recruited Speed.
Cats have some of the quickest players in the league which is working to great advantage with run and spread.
Players pushing super hard at the second contest to create turnovers whilst not so fussed with the initial clearance they're hunting in numbers beyond the clearance. With numbers at the secondary contest, they can handball their way out of trouble and being so well drilled, their run, spread and with players streaming forward inside 50 for multiple scoring options. All this, mostly straight down the center corridor.
Its no coincidence then they are the team with the greatest uncontested possession stats and dominating the handballs stats as well. Also dominating scores from turnovers as they did so effectively against Richmond scoring a staggering 15 goals 3 from turnovers. :banghead
It's important to note that Geelong have always maintained a reserves team, lead by reigning VFL premiership coach Matthew Knights, also currently sitting undefeated this season, they continue to boast a development regime that other teams only dream about replicating having a wealth of talented youngsters that can join the senior group and play the role required for the team.
The standards are very high at Geelong. A level thats expected by any person that walks through the doors and the onus is on the leaders to help maintain the standard required.
Geelong is truly a well oiled machine.

David King covered the Cats' game plan in depth last week. He called it the 'ring of pressure.' They don't mind so much losing the hit outs or clearances. They're sitting blokes a meter or two off the stoppage to either strangle the opposition if they lose it or spread if they win it. They were doing something similar last year where they were pressuring the second and third opposition disposal and winning it that way. It's not rocket science, it's just high risk, high reward footy and they have the quality to do it.

Thanks mate. :thumbsup I didn't see it but I like the "ring of pressure" term.
I have heard or read somewhere someone said it was "sling shot" footy as was their speed after winning possession
It's really interesting to see what methods coaches use during the season only to throw it all out the window once the nitty gritty of finals footy returns and all the good teams just resort back to good old fashioned One on One battle of strength.
-
Adelaide has flogged GWS by 135 pts. Ex-Saint Thomas Lynch kicked 10 goals.
This is where the unevenness of the draw sticks out. Those who play GWS twice basically get a free 4 points ahead of the rest like us who don't.
-
It looks like their would be only around 10k at the MCG for Demons v GC.

More seagulls than supporters

The saints could be 80+ points ahead but they keep turning over the ball, run themselves into trouble or just do something ridiculously stupid.
The blues are stuffed! :lol

Sure is. They reckon the top 8 doesn't change a big deal after round 8, so the next couple weeks will start putting some space between the teams and clear up that 'log jam.' As long as we win some we can lose some and lock it in Eddie :thumbsup
-
Need to win one of Essendon or West COke and we'll make it. Anyone else not overly impressed with the Swans so far?
Also, remember when Carlton were 2012 flag faves? :lol :lol :lol

Don't think that West Coke have been all that convincing at all this year. Reckon we're in with a genuine chance even over there ;D
I'm not making a call on Sydney. Didn't think they were much chop last year either and look how that ended up :lol
-
The genuine contenders don't start winding up and hitting their best form until the second half of the season. The Swans always start each season slowly so you can never write them off. They'll also add Tippett in their forward line for the last half of the season. Having said that, right now you would back a Geelong vs Hawthorn Grand Final.
As for Carlton losing :rollin.

North fortunate to still be in front. All Eagles that quarter but they couldn't capitalise. The one good thing about this game is someone has to lose ;D.
That head clash off the ball should show the AFL rules committee, that no matter how many silly rule changes they try to make, they can't stop accidental or incidental contact in footy.

Nought starting to sht me off, cm on Eagles put these spineless wankers
Your reading my mind.
gee i cant stand them.
Skataboner just wait for it.
Coach was terminally ill not that he ever whinges.

Warm in Perth, blah blah blah.
Skataboner Skataboner Skataboner
Get the feeling even if the Eagles won there is something fishy going on there this year and they may not make the 8.
Nought on the other hand break back in a toughy after they have lost narrowly in a few to keep in touch just to effin skata me.
What will skata me even more is this, Eagles have kicked 7.23 against Carlton, 10.19 against Port, and plenty of behinds tonight. We play them in a few weeks........
Nought are just trouble everywhere they go. Skata skata skata.

I'd laugh if North get pipped right at the end after being in front all night.

Bloody hell what a great mark by the big boy. Fantastic ending.
Now that's X-factor. Would love him at Richmond.
I don't trust west coke though.. I find it very strange they seem to fall down the ladder for a season then back up again in the top four the year after.
Does anyone know of a draft pick they need to tank for to get the next "Nic Nat"?
..Anyway the Nomads can spend the rest of the weekend looking for a ground to play a home game on next season.

Hurley subbed off to check if he has concussion. The Bombers have 20 mins to check. If he's subbed off for the rest of the game it may mean he'll be in doubt for next week against us.
Edit: Hurley has failed the concussion test and has been officially subbed out of the game.

North would just waste what they have and what is given to them by relocating.

Players were interviewed by ASADA this week.
They know they are in trouble and possibly the mind is starting to wilt given the repercussions of the investigations on the club and the players. Stuff them and their club.
If anything I think our chances may increase if this is the case especially if the sanctions are club ones and not individual ones. Would you play to win nothing at AFL level. Travesty of justice. F them and their footy club.

I agree bout f them and their club, and any other club for that matter. As I said im going to be overly pessimistic until the tigers can show they have a will to kill and dgaf about who they play, just intent on ripping them apart and feasting on them. I really really wanna beat the essundrugs next week but I dont wanna jinx it by any ounce of optimism.

Yes such a strong effort from the Collingwood captain :lol.
The Swans are smashing the Pies. They have loose players everywhere through the middle. Goodes is playing loose man in defence and has brought his own footy.

My favorite was O'Brian's line break... And kicked it to the invisible man when he had two teammates or an open goal.

Another 100-point flogging for GWS. It's just bonus 4-points and % for those sides that play them twice :scream.
Geelong thumped Port as well. A win tonight and we jump above the Power who you would think will now slide out of the Eight and finals contention by the 2nd half of the season.

Gold Coast have just hit the front against Hawthorn at the MCG. It's the Ablett show.
Edit: Make that Suns by 11 pts time-on in the 2nd qtr.

I know the Lions have quite a few out but they've been shocking. Seems Voss didn't bother going with a different gameplan without big J.Brown up forward. The Brissy mids are still aimlessly bombing it long. This is a gift of 4pts and % for the Pies.
-
Voss the toss.
-
Tonight will go down as one of the worst Friday night games in ages and not just because it was one sided. The only good thing about it was Simon Black still showing he's all class with the footy in his hands. Brisbane can forget about getting a Friday nighter next year after that display. By the way any Tiger fans who had thoughts that we should chase after Karnezis should watch tonight's game.
-
Only positive outside of Black & Zorko I'd take out for the Lions is Harwood, showed a bit
Rest of them were crap
Collingwood were poor as well but their class rose to the top = Pendlebury & Swan
-
Glad I missed it. W
-
Agree with WP and MT. Players that have been touted on here in the past as worth considering:
Karnezis - shocking disposal, no.
Longer - completely outclassed and would need a lot of time, no.
Raines - same old, same old, shocking disposal, no.
While there is some consideration of the players missing for the Lions - Brown, Merrett, Rich, Rockliff, Beams, Leuenberger, Polec among others, and that would have had a significant effect on a (at best) middle of the road side, there was little excuse for the shocking skills and decision-making that was on display. Yeah, the ball was a bit slippery because it was a bit humid apparently but Collingwood was far more polished in the alien conditions so that excuse only has a short lifespan. Terrible game to watch but at least I didn't let my heart rule my head in the footy tipping by picking against the feathered fairies - there's a lining on every silver cloud!
-
Longer is in his second season and I remember when he came out last year he played as a forward and just helped out in the ruck and I thought he looked quite solid early on. Was really out of his league last night playing sole ruck against a seasoned veteran like Jolly. I don't think he'll be going anywhere but IMO would be worth a nibble if there was a chance.
Karnezis was playing as the main forward last night and it didn't really look like it suited him. Played really well as a winger in the NAB Cup, and I guess there has been talk of him since he's out of contract (I think) and his future father in law has something to do with Richmond (I think again lol. I read that from when I occasionally peruse BigFooty). Probably the kind of player we would have looked at a season or two ago but we're past these sorts of top ups now. Would be great to have another AFL body on the list and wouldn't care if we could get it done cheaply but I doubt that would be the case. So I guess pass as well ;D
-
Longer will be good

GWS have lost their past 4 games by 135, 83, 100 and today by 94. Charity percentage boosters to the teams around us fighting for the last few spots in the top 8 - Adelaide, West Coast and Carlton :scream.
At least Freo knocked off the Crows playing rugby which helps us.

Yep we'll kick the sweep that week kicking 9 23 77 to 10 3 63.
Just like last year win by kicking less goals. Malakies

I agree Tucky. They have really improved this year especially over the past month. A few of our boys could learn about tackling pressure and getting numbers to the contest from them. If the Suns had taken their opportunities in front of goal they would be in front at half-time.

Have to agree they are on the verge of finally 'arriving' which is something we cant do as a club because we are just SHORT CUT CITY FC.
-
Yep probably right tucker
At this stage with a quarter to go I can see cats pull away 3-4 goal win but GC very impressive on the big stage, something we haven't been a blend to do.
These players will only get better plus the addition of jack Martin next year and they have a heap of first rounders up their sleeve.
What Richmond, nth even carton were worried about appears to have wheels in motion...
-
They were brave but ran out of legs with Geelong kicking 9 goals to 1 in the last quarter to win by 52 points after scores were level at 3/4 time.
By the way if anyone can get a look at Gazza's goal for the Suns in the last. What a gem. :thumbsup
-
Yep Ablett proving again he's a freak with that goal.
The Suns' defence and midfield are coming together nicely and one thing they have in spades is mids/smalls with sheer pace. It's their forward line that's still needs work. Lynch is pretty much their only key forward and he's still young and slight. Sam Day is the other they will hope in time fills the other key forward post.
-
Ablett's freak goal last night:

Classic, first of all a few weeks ago it was Poot, Norf and Bummers in front of us and now it is Gold Coast
-
Dawks haven't scored in 10 mins against the Dees, I think the Dees have gone past us
-
Took 15 minutes into the 2nd qtr for the Dees to kick their first goal. Down 58-10. Bye bye Neeld.
-
WTF, is going at et I had stadium???? Milestone for the rodent filth Harvey
Saints are gone.....
-
Watters probably now realises he's taken on a poison chalice. St Kilda's list and results are only going to get worse before they get better as their older players retire and there's little quality youth to replace them.
-
By the way if anyone can get a look at Gazza's goal for the Suns in the last. What a gem. :thumbsup
Almost as good as Aker's, but Aker kicked 2 of them, in the wet

Oh hai Essendon, meet June 2013. ;D
-
Reverse jinx. Book ur September holidays Carlton. Hahahha
-
I hope they finish 9th and 10th
-
Peptides at half time.
-
That was a good game to watch, and a great finish.
Love the way prodigal son Dan her shut his decks twice in front of goal :lol
Essendon reminded me of us against them, though at least they had balls to fight and win.
-
Might have been a close game to watch EEA but it was a really crap standard from 2 teams purporting to be finalists. I thought I was watching Melbourne vs GWS during that 3rd quarter.
-
Agree Smokey. From memory Ch 7 put up the turnover stats around 3/4 time and it was 61 to 57 = 118 combined :o.
The game showed both sides major weakness and why they won't challenge the top 4 sides. Carlton don't have the key forwards to kick a winning score in games that count while Essendon can be shutdown when you match their workrate. A game the Blues lost as they were the better side in general play for most of it. That's what was good about the game - one of them had to lose ;D.
-
Suck Carlton lmao :rollin
-
That was a rubbish game. Crap standard.
I'm not sure anyone else feels like it but someone needs to knock that Heppell out.
The way he speaks I want to throw the remote at the screen.
-
Wheres WAT to tell us to play like Carlton :lol
-
Carlton have Hawthorn, Sydney away, Collingwood to be a healthy 6-8 :clapping
Followed by Saints (haven't beaten in years) and Norf who are far better team than Carlton and always play well against the Scum. 6-10 or 7-9 at best. :clapping
Hopefully get through to our game against them on 9 losses so we can end their season. :clapping
Can't see it happening though they'll be gone by then. :lol

GWS all over Geelong in this game.

The Cats will still probably win by 10 goals in the end as the GWS kids tire but at least the Giants are having a dip. Scores level.

Just watching the Crows v Swans game and the Swans are doing a number on them so far (last night still has me skittish though). The Swans are playing well as a team but Dan Hannebery has 28 possies to half time! :o

108 - 27 just before 3/4 time.
Good for us as we stay above the Crows on the ladder; plus their % is getting hammered. :thumbsup.

North trailing the Suns by 10 after they kicked the first 4 goals. Geez I'd laugh if Gold Coast wins tonight :pray.

Gold Coast could cost a side a finals spot. We really need to win against them this year.
-
Bluey's comments in yesterdays paper couldn't of been more right and it was proven tonight
GOLD Coast coach Guy McKenna has turned the blowtorch onto the Kangaroos ahead of tomorrow's clash at Metricon Stadium saying his side believed they were fragile after quarter time.

Gold Coast could cost a side a finals spot. We really need to win against them this year.
I'd argue they've just closed the door on Norths season. Only 4 wins for the season and need to win 8 from the last 11 to play finals. Still games to come against Geelong, Hawthorn, Coll, Freo away, West Coast away, Carlton, Essendon and us.
This year they've only beat Brisbane, Port, Bulldogs and St.k.
It probably aint gonna happen :nope
They are stuffed and they know it.
They'll get us again in Cairns playing like this
This year they win it rather than us losing it
-
You'll need at least 13 wins this year to make it so no way will North win 9 of their last 11. What's more is the North players know they've blown the season. Petrie last night after the game said their early season losses will come back to bite them. So mentally they are shot.
Mark Stevens on Ch 7 last night said the media heat will come on North now. I'd guess that will depend on whether the Dees get flogged again tomorrow and Melbourne finally sack Neeld this week. In any case, the heat should come on Brad Scott's coaching after allowing McKenzie to roam freely a kick behind the ball for the whole night and not manning him up. He had a shocker as much as his players did.
-
Every Richmond supporter needs to barrack against WC, Adelaide, Carlton and Collingwood. With spots 6-8, only 3 will make it.

No arm twisting to barrack against Coll and carlton required..take that as a given

Collingwood are home. They'll win their next 5 games minimum. Making them 11-4.
WC will win today and then struggle.
We must beat Adelaide because they will struggle from 5-7.
Carlton will be done in 3 weeks 6-8 with Saints and Norf. Carlton are both their bunnies. :clapping

After n0rf made the elimination finals they signed Brad Sook up 2016 (I think the end of it but not 100%). So regardless if the heat turns up on him or not they're stuck with him. :lol surely they can't afford to pay that out any time soon.

I seriously was left wondering if the umpires had money on West Coke. Every single decision was going their way. As for the Selwood's, I'm seriously wishing their mum had practiced birth control. For the most part the umpires this round have put the whistle away, which is mostly a good thing, and the trend continued in this game. The one trend that has irritated me for weeks though is the absolute refusal to reward a good tackle, or penalise incorrect disposal as a result of good tackling. I've seen players drop, throw, fling and simply put the ball on the ground when tackled , and get away with it.
This continued last night. The Saints in particular must have laid a dozen brilliant tackles that went unrewarded. Then in the dying seconds, with the Saints mounting one last roll of the dice attack, Saad I think it was gets dragged down, and lo and behold, the umpires decide to finally pay one.
When Scumwood roll the Dees today we will once again find ourselves in 9th spot. God I hate the bye.
-
when you talk about rewarding a good tackle are you referring to when the player has had a chance to get rid of the ball or just doesnt even attempt to dispose of it properly, or do you believe that the play maker should be penalised, even if he is tackled as soon as he takes possession?
-

I believe if the player with the ball has had prior opportunity to get rid of it (ie/ has taken a few steps, has taken on the tackler etc.) and is brought down fairly (ie/ not scragged, or ridden into the ground) then he should be penalised for holding the ball. Similarly, if he throws, or drops the ball when tackled he should be pinged for incorrect disposal. The umpires haven't been doing this for weeks, and it's really beginning to drive me up the wall.
-
fair enough rolls. some people want every tackle "rewarded" even if the player has had no opportunity to get rid of it. If they have no prior and they attempt to dispose of it i don't have a problem with play on. for a while there we were seeing that the tackler was nearly always rewarded and that leads to players waiting to tackle rather than hunting ball, which poos me no end.
It really is a simple concept and sometimes the umpires will get it wrong as it is open to individual interpetation, but it seems to swing one way then the other, which must be down to how the umpires are instructed to interpret it.
Why cant these idiots just leave things alone rather constantly tinkering?
-

Agree 100% RR. Prior opportunity to me is the most simple of concepts and easy to adjudicate but it seems light years beyond the capacity of Gieschen and his merry men to get right consistently. Prior opportunity is when, after taking clean possession, you have taken a couple of steps, or have pirouetted a circle, or have tried to fend off a tackle and in almost every case it's quite clear if you've had that opportunity - there is no split-second decision needed by the umpire as they have had the time to assess prior opportunity in the play. But time and again we see play-on called only to suddenly pull out a single prior opportunity free after having let 10 go beforehand. Frustrating beyond comprehension.
And last night there was a critical moment where 2 umpiring mistakes in the same action helped West Coast to a win. Matt Priddis (who must have been training with the Selwoods all summer) took possession at CHF, ran a couple of steps away with the ball, tried to fend off the tackle, got tackled so then immediately pitched himself forward to the ground holding the tacklers arm as he went down. Free was paid in the back, Priddis goaled and West Coast hit the front. The correct decision should have been holding the ball but even not paying that, the umpire should have been able to work out that Priddis caused the tackle to pitch forward and down, not the Saints tackler. It was bloody obvious first time in normal speed, without needing to slow it down and be wise in hindsight. How much do these drop kicks get paid per game again?
Memo to Demetriou, Evans, Gieschen and the M&Ms:
If you truly want the game to flow and eradicate stoppages then try the novel concept of paying free kicks when they're there. Yep, it will mean more frees paid but guess what that will do? It will get the ball moving away from the pack and produce more individual contests around the ground. Instead of sitting on the outside of the ever increasing and ugly pack forming flapping your arms and calling play on, how about paying prior opportunity correctly - you would be amazed at how many packs it will prevent from forming in the first place.
-
Hey Al, speaking of no prior opportunity to get rid of it:
I remember a Richmond vs Coll game several years ago when Aaron Fiora leapt up to intercept a handball, and the split-second his feet touched the ground he was mown down by Leon Davis. Aside from the fact that Fiora had absolutely no opportunity to dispose of the ball, Davis didn't even tackle him properly, riding him face down into the ground all over his back. The result? You guessed it. Holding the ball. Goal to Collingwood. I did one of my trademark leaping out of my seat, shaking my fists and swearing rants, which was highlighted and mocked by that little smart-arse eunuch Dave Hughes on "Before The Game".
Anyway, point of story is, no, I'm not one of those people who wants every tackle paid, whether there's prior opportunity or not. Similarly, I've never been a big fan of penalising the poor bloke caught on the bottom of the pack who was the only one with the guts to make the play in the first place. But, the rule is the rule, so I've just had to learn to accept it.
-

Yep. The umpiring last night was a disgrace. It was so obvious that they had an agenda to get West Coast up. The inconsistency and bias against St. Kilda was just staggering. So much for the notion that the umpires were going to clamp down on stagers like the Smellwood's and Priddis. And the umpire's inability to do their frigging job properly will have us out of the 8 when Collingwood wins today.
-
I have to say this season has been the worst display of umpiring I have ever seen.
-
Saints got rooted by the umps last night IMHO.

the worst one i can recall was a couple of years ago when mcguane was being held by the arm BEFORE he took possession, was spun around in a chicken wing tackle as he tried to kick it and was penalised. I think the result from that was a goal too, as well me going ape droppings

Appears I'm not alone in my thinking:
You've got a whistle, blow the b$%@&! thing
Charles Happell

It's difficult to take the negative side in a footy debate when, appearing for the affirmative on the other team, are the rather prominent voices of James Hird, Mick Malthouse and Nathan Buckley - coaches of Victoria's three biggest AFL clubs.
All three said they loved the way Friday night's Carltion-Essendon match was umpired. They loved it because the umps put the whistle away and let the players slug it out and do their thing. They had ''let the game go''.
Hird, basking in the glow of the Bombers' flukey win, said: "I felt the game was umpired really fairly and the obvious ones were given. That's how we want the game umpired."
Malthouse's moustache stopped bristling long enough for him to add: "They umpired a terrific game of football and I will take the punt that I won't get fined in saying that the quality of umpiring today was outstanding given the surface and it allowed the game to be played with two good football sides going at each other."
Well, as the first speaker for the negative, I was at the game and I say that assertion is absolute baloney.
Countless free kicks weren't paid that should have been paid - and would have been paid even at the start of this season. It was a free-for-all and, don't be deceived by the close result, an eyesore, the contest largely devoid of any individual highlights.
The umpires on Friday night blew their whistle only 17 times to pay a free kick. Seventeen times in game that went for 110 minutes - at the rate of one free every 6.5 minutes. Seventeen times in a game where the contest was fierce, where bodies were thrown into contested situations and where backmen were often holding on to forwards off the ball.
Only once was a player deemed to have illegally disposed of the ball.
Yet the free-kick average per game at the start of the season hovered around the mid-40s. So what gives? If umps boss, Jeff Gieschen, wasn't on a six-week mid-season holiday, perhaps we could ask him.
Two Carlton forwards were, from my neutral position, pushed square in the back in the frenetic final few minutes - Jarrad Waite was one of them - but the umps kept their whistles steadfastly by their sides. And, reinforcing the theory that they're happy to pay frees in the middle of the ground (occasionally) but rarely in front of goal, then they paid a soft one to Paddy Ryder at a boundary throw-in.
There's a voluminous book of rules relating to the indigenous game, yet the umpires either off their own bat, or because they're instructed to, choose to penalise players who break these rules only in the most egregious cases. The rules are now applied selectively, so an 80% infringement might attract a penalty but a 60% one might be called play on.
And fewer free kicks only cultivates that blight on the modern game: scrimmages, stoppages, packs and stacks on the mill. Over 10 years until 2008, the average number of field bounces in season deciders was 27; in the past four years, it has risen to 47. In 2012, there were 51. It's ugly and, with fewer free kicks being paid, it's only getting uglier.
And it here that I introduce the second speaker for the affirmative, Mr Tim Lane, who wrote a piece in the Sunday Age last October which ought to be required reading for Gieschen, his umpires and all on the Rules Committee.
''In the 1970 Grand Final, (sole field umpire) Don Jolley paid 90 free kicks (which may include frees for out of bounds on the full). In this year's grand final, 31 free kicks (not including ''out on the full'') were awarded in a game with indubitably more tackling than was the case 42 years ago. In the 1996 grand final, 19 free kicks - about one every six minutes - were awarded. Does anyone seriously believe the same standard of player protection was brought to that game as to the classic of 26 years earlier?
''Apologists for today's relentless defensive, stoppage-oriented football argue that, in the past, too many inconsequential free kicks were paid. But Jolley and his peers did not just protect the ball player, they protected - and preserved - a particular form of the game.
''Yet still the AFL football brains trust refuses to acknowledge liberal umpiring as a reason for the escalating problem of pack formation.''
And, finally I call on Mr Pat Smith, from The Australian, as third speaker for the negative. Smith wrote a column in today's paper headlined: ''You can throw out rulebook ... the umpires have'' in which he, too, expressed dismay at the paltry number of frees paid on Friday night.
''What the umpires are doing now is relaxing the interpretation of every rule. We are playing a different game in round 11 than we did in round one. That is so damning of the football department at the AFL and the autonomy of the umpiring arm of the league,'' Smith wrote.
''Paying only blatant and eye-boggling breaches of the rules is unsustainable. There is no standard to judge the rules by if they are not to be strictly adhered to. A push-in-the-back free should not be determined by the force but by the action itself. Free-wheeling interpretation will soon lead to confusion that will erode the umpires' credibility and authority.
''All of this means the AFL no longer has rules for its football game, merely broad outlines from which the umpires will adjudicate our game. Chaos is just a whistle - or rather lack of one - away.
''So from all of this we can correctly deduce that the umpiring in the early rounds of the season was poor and now it is good. And we can also presume the rule that, say, does not allow a player to push his opponent in the back is, in fact, just an ambit claim.''
So with that, we rest our case. Doubtless we'll get drowned out by the mindless chorus of ''just let the game go'', but unless something is done to rein in this dire trend then expect chaos, and ugliness, to ensue.

Hawks winning would be better for us. And just as I type this Carlton regain the lead.
The Blues may have lost Murphy to a suspected broken jaw. Major loss for their season if true.
Who was the dill by the way who let the Hawks wear their more brown jumper against the darker navy blue of Carlton?! :huh3.

Geez franklin is a seagull

Great result ......... for us :thumbsup. Have a cry bluebaggers! :rollin.
Those 10 frees in a row against Carlton helped as well .

Micky wasn't a happy camper when Richo interviewed him after the game. Richo had to cut off the interview while Mick was still ranting lol.

Nothing better than watching Carlton get reamed. :clapping :clapping

Wtf is with hawks jumper? Seriously its one shade from black.
Or am I only imagining it? Surely not

I just watched Richo's post-match interview with a sooky-la,la Mick Malthouse on You Tube. If I was Richo I would have taken the microphone and shoved it so far up the patronizing, condescending old git's clacker ,that Micky would have been joining the special comments team every time he broke wind. Suck it up you Carlton LOSERS.

Twice last night, Carlton players coming out of defence kicked to the Hawthorn trainer standing alone on the wing :wallywink. So it is an issue.

the trainer wears the same jumper as the players?

Stuff Carlton.
Every time a Carlton lose and whether a neutral calls it fair or not there is a Richmond supporter somewhere on this earth who celebrates as if Richmond has won.
Suck skata you filthy maggots. :lol :rollin :lol

Suns back within 10 pts of the Bombers. It would be hilarious if they were to knock off Essendon.

Haven't watched the Suns yet apart from this game but they look like a pretty good outfit

The Suns battled manfully but the Bombers were too good by 43 points.

Yep the younger Suns were outmuscled and once they lost Lynch, Rischitelli and one other, they were stuffed structurally and rotation-wise.

Don't they wear the team polo? Which I assume is the same colour

Bump on Murphy was fine – both players were arriving at the ball at the same time and both players went the bump. Murphy is soft as shyte and came off second best.

Mmmmmm funny because if you listen the "The Verdict" what's his face basically says Hodge didn't bump but he could of avoided hitting him high so its a negligent act. So what circumstances changed from the non bump being reportable to the non bump being okay? (rhetorical)

My personal view was he tried to avoid Roughy and in doing so wiped out Henderson. Was either that or KO his teammate. You know the old sayin' better to decapitate a Carlton person than... ;D

Hawks up on Eagles 100 - 79 at 3/4 time. West Coast losing is better for us.
-
Hawks win. Makes our win over the Eagles in Perth look even better as West Coast played well tonight. It'll be interesting to see how we go against the Hawks later this year. Our midfield smashed the Eagles' midfield whereas tonight the Eagles showed up Hawthorn in the clearances.
Embley should get weeks for his dirty cheapshot of deliberately dropping the knees into an opponent lying on the ground and then whacking his head into the turf. The game has gone past him now anyway. Cox is another Eagle veteran who looks like father time has caught up.
-
West Coast losing is better for us.
Actually it was a win-win situation for us. Hawthorn winning opened up a nice gap between us and West Coast. But if the Eagles had won, Carlton would have been out of the eight.
-
Under the poxy way the tribunal works, embley will get one maybe two weeks.
They base it on deliberate or negligent, where he struck and force.
Intent, or the fact that it was a low down, gutless cheap shot does not come into play.
Thjey treat an otherwise legal bump on someone who does not protect themself and thus gets hurt, as a worse crime than dropping your knees into someone on the ground.
-
What was the free kick differential? I swear those germs look after West Coke regardless of where they play. Loved the one between Franklin and I think McKenzie? Buddy holding him off fairly with strength despite his arm being held but still took the mark one handed only to be pinged.... For holding. Good too see Shuey getting his head ripped off a few times and not getting a free though. Boy who cried wolf.

Tippett goals for the Swans inside the first minute.
That must have been a Crows fan right near the 3aw effects mike yelling out "******* hell" as it went through. Tony Leonard commentating replies "thank you, sir!" :lol.

It was tempting until you reminded yourself it was Melbourne ;D.
Port winning has cost us a free hamburger this week.

At indoor cricket last night someone was trying to say that Melbourne was a red hot chance, but was reminded that Melbourne are a completely poo side! :lol

Talk of Melbourne now being competitive in 3 years given the new regime that will be installed is ludicrous. At the end of 2009 even given our off field changes we were more competitive.
Embarking on another 5 year plan. :lol :rollin :lol

Thomas has done his hammy. You would think he misses our game with those penniless pricks.
No Milne. No Mcevoy
We owe these clubs a royal smashing after years and years of owning us.

Hahahahahaha good on em. Best quarter I've seen. Still can't believe they scored with 13 seconds left bringing the ball from one end to the other.
Cats im sick of em. Scott brothers embarrassed today.
-
This defeat could signal the start of the end of Geelongs dominance and being a really top team. They are getting older and slower. Maybe father time has caught up with the cats.

Christianson = chokenson

Did it go twang off the 3 metre or 10 metre board?

Cats v Freo next week. Chance to close in on top 4. :shh
-
Embley only got a week for dropping his knees off the ball.
Simpkin got 2 weeks by the way so he won't play against us.
Stevie Johnson got 2 weeks also while Spencer copped 3 for the high bump on McEvoy.

Harvey saying he was pinched 300 times :rollin
Crowley's advocate Seamus Rafferty put it to Harvey that the reason there was no footage of any pinching was that it didn't happen even once.
"You're right. It didn't happen once. It happened about 300 times,'' Harvey replied.

Harvey happy to snipe blokes off the ball but can't handle a nipple cripple.

If it happened 300 times how could there not be any footage of it?

Also, don't know who to go for. If West Coke and Carltank lose and we win we have a huge buffer. But I love it when Essendank lose. If them and Sydney lose and we win by enough can't we go 4th? ;D

Eff it. Hate the bummers. Go Cokers.

We will finish 6th E-girls 9th. Essendrug get banned and it still works out beautifully. Jack can play on E-Mac. :lol :lol

They were in bloody good form when we played them in Round 6, they hadn't lost a game until they were whacked by us. We caused their fall in confidence and form so I see no fear in playing any time this year.

Season defining game for Carlton tonight especially if Port win in another upset against Essendon.

Collingwood are so poo. Can't believe we lost to them. We're a 5 goal better side this season
-
black and white stripes V navy Blue.
WTF would the league go away from the bright green or orange for a light blue in this game?
FMD!
-
Waite going down has hurt Carlton's balance.
-
Pies look like they will win by plenty now.
Kicked 10 of the last 11 goals.
-
Was 42-14 in favour of Carlton late in the first.
Late in the third it's Collingwood 103-56.
Bye bye Carlton for 2013.
No better than what they were last year under Rotten.
They at least beat the Skunks twice last year.

Never enjoyed a pies win more
Goodbye blues
All over for 2013.
We are now nearly locks for the 8

-
Paul Roos on foxsports "carlton have blown their premiership window"
Some may argue what premiership window ;D.
The only bluebagger with a wry smile tonight will be Ratten. Carlton are worse than when he was coach.
Judd's best years are behind him; he now looks slow and can't carry the side anymore.
McLean is another slow workhorse.
Gibbs as a No.1 draft pick hasn't come on and doesn't impact games. Flying under the criticism radar when compared to Jack Watts.
Yarran can only do cameos. Pick 6 used on a sub lol.
Waite is still injury prone.
Backline can be easily exposed for lack of height once you get Henderson's opponent to sit in the goalsquare so Henderson can't play 3rd man up.
Midfield was totally torn to shreds from the 20 minute mark of the first quarter onwards.
Forward line still has no genuine key forwards.
Carlton are still relying on the same names they did 4-5 years ago. This senior core has continually failed as a collective group - Scotland is 32, Waite 30, Carrazzo 29, Simpson 29, Judd 29, Walker 27, McLean 27, Jamison 27, Betts 26, Armfield 26. There's hardly any classy youth coming through. As the core group is getting older, their lack of depth is being more and more exposed. Aside from Kreuzer, Murphy (shouldn't have played last night) and Henderson, who are the future Blue 200-gamers?

Geelong could not buy a goal in that quarter but are still leading.
51 - 35 3rd quarter time.
-
Watching this game just goes to show how far ahead these two teams are to the rest of the competition.
-
Bellchambers kicked all 3 of Essendon's goals in the first qtr. That'll make other clubs even keener to poach him.
Saints were leading Freo at half-time but Freo have put their foot down to lead by 15 at 3/4 time.
Swans won 116 - 85 over the Dees.
-
The MRP roulette wheel at it again. Elbow an opponent in the head and you only get two weeks :huh3. Shaun McKernan is very lucky to only cop that for that dirty sniper act.

Dangerfield's definitely done his AC. You can see he's playing with a dead arm.

Great night of sport and the Tour de France is on later. :cheers

I didn't think the umpires unfavoured Collingwood. They might not of got all the 50/50 calls but the fans are giving it to them on a scale like they lost and it was all the umpires fault.

The Pies got a dream run from the umps tonight. The turning point in the last quarter was when Jaensch was clearly pushed in the back 20m out from goal which would've put the Crows in front when Adelaide had all the momentum. It's not paid and Collingwood run it up the other end for a goal against the run of play and the momentum of the game does a 180 and the Pies seal the game with a couple more.
-
Hawks have put down the Port challenge after half-time. Good for us that both SA teams have lost this weekend although the Crows were in reality out of the finals race anyway. Now it's up to us to go two games clear of Port in 8th spot.
Melbourne have kicked just 3 goals to 3/4 time lol.

You can chant at the soccer as long as it isn't racist.
Milne deserves everything he gets . He has antagonised the crowd along the way in his career suck it up. There are people in society who have stolen in a last ditch effort to feed their family and they get a stigma from society, employers everybody yet this guy if guilty has a footy club to fall back on and ie the footy public need to toe the line. Hypocritical.

Where's the shinboner spirit this week? ::). North 33 points up late in 3rd qtr and get rolled again. Choke choke and choke! :rollin
North pump themselves up to play us every year (god knows why - a 1974 thing?) and then return to their mediocre nobody selves. It ticks you off.

The umps sure looked after the Dons against the Doggies today. Melksham was in the 3rd row when he kicked that freak goal while that non-advantage call in the last quarter stuffed up the Dogs' momentum when that would-be goal would've had them just 5 points down with all the running.

Don't hang yourselves fellas.

Lets cut them some slack I thought they showed a lot of Skataboner spirit to this time come back from from over 5 goals down to still lose by less than a kick. Tonight they are moral victors.
I wonder what's worse?
Who cares it just brings me to laughter watching that miserable, forgettable conglomeration of society's lowest of the low that call themselves a footy club fail like that because they will feel aggrieved and feel an injustice with a plethora of excuses when there will only be one real reason and that is just not glamorous good enough. Malakies. :thumbsup
-
That's 6 losses under 2 goals this year.
Don't hang yourselves fellas.

Hawthorn putting the doggies to the sword early in their game. No real surprises there.
A bit of an arm wrestle between Essendon and GWS early on. GWS have come to play, leading by 3pts close to 1/4 time. Do we dare to dream?
-
Doggies sticking with the Hawks near 3/4 time.
The AFL will be happy the Giants are competitive to half-time against the Bombers given the free tickets they were offering.
-
Go Suns!
-
Suns still up 79-66 on the Pies midway through the last. It'd be hilarious if the Pies get done :pray.
-
Suns up 85-72.
22 mins gone Q4. Almost there.

Of joffa's tears!

Suns win :rollin
Crowd of 20,000 up there too according to SEN.
Ablett had 49 disposals :gobdrop

Exactly.
This is what its allllllll about
-
What a choke from Port. The saints are right back in it 89 - 86 at the moment.
-
Tigermonk will be shattered with the Pies losing
-
:lol
-
What a choke from Port. The saints are right back in it 89 - 86 at the moment.
Port very lucky to regain the lead and then hold on thanks to some terrible umpiring decisions which gifted them their last two goals.
-
Adelaide back in the hunt coming from 5 goals down to beat the Cats by 2 points.
Twice in a month Geelong have travelled interstate and lost being overrun in the last.
Should we play Geelong in Cairns next year. :lol :rollin :lol
-
For some reason that was very enjoyable seeing Essendon get smashed by 9 goals ;D. Without Watson they certainly need an injection (excuse the pun lol) of class into their midfield. The Bomber midfield was utterly embarrassed tonight.
Playing Hawthorn is going to be a big test next week for us.
-
C'mon suns knock the cheats over

Cheeky One Eye there, I like it :clapping
Was hoping they get obliterated, but hawks kept them in the game
-
Go GWS up 46-30 at half time. :ROTFL
-
Pies up by nine points early in the 3rd, five goals in less than 10 mins
-
Port up by just 4 pts on Brisbane at 3/4 time. Massive last qtr from a Final 8 point of view.
-
Port won 71-62. So they're back in 8th spot.
-
I'll still waste a few hours this week, just like last, explaining to Carlton fans that they aren't in the 8 because Port won. :lol
-

LMAO
-
Another week, another priceless reaction in the coaches' box from a Scott brother :wallywink.
Waits for the sooking after the game from Brad Scott if North lose tonight narrowly.
-
Similar game to when we played North. Geelong looking like they are just going through the motions bombing the ball inside 50 to outnumbered forwards compared to North's hard running getting numbers to contest and fall of the ball and hitting the Cats on the rebound.
Let's see if North choke in the second half.
-
The noose is tightening. :ROTFL
-
If norf can win vs cats rfc should man the stuff up and do something
-
Less pressure on Hawthorn to keep winning knowing they are two games clear.
We may be a silly chance.
-
Giants up by 28 pts on the Dees in 3rd qtr ;D
-
Giants are home, Dees coach has to be sacked
-
Giants are home, Dees coach has to be sacked
Well he won't keep the job now and why would anyone want it. :lol :rollin :lol
-
Looks like Jonathan Brown may have suffered an career ending foot injury given his age. A sad way for any player to finish up.
Freo up by 10 pts over the Blues at 3/4 time. Always good to see the bluebaggers lose ;D but a Freo loss means we'll be only half a game behind them.
-
Bye bye bluebaggers :lol.
LOL Freo needing extra security to protect them from the Blue ferals in the crowd. Not happy Jan at Princes Park :wallywink.
-
Freo have an easy draw where they play Melb, GWS, and St.Kilda in their last 4.
Always good when we win and Carlscum lose.
Hope Adelaide win the derby tomorrow to make Carlton fall away further in case Peptideton lose all of their Premiership points.
-
Would be sweet for us to end the Blues' finals hopes in two weeks time :thumbsup.
Fyfe is an absolute gun. Freo are smashing them now. Micky no messiah :nope.
-
Port win 107 - 103
but what about the 2nd last goal by Angus Monfries which bounced and turned about 90 degrees to go into the goal after it looked like a certainty to be a point.
-
Would rather Poort in the 8 than the cheats

If that is the case I hope we kick 24.13 in round 23 against them and pummel them by 15 goals + instead of 13.24 like last year and win by 45.
Their goose is cooked much in the same way it was this time last year. :help

St Kilda can forget about being fixtured to play any Friday nighters for the next few years. No doubt the 2014 fixture will have us playing more prime time Friday nighters instead as we bring the crowds and tv ratings :thumbsup.

117 - 89

The Pies are home against the Swans 100-71 up at ANZ. It helps when you don't have to play Sydney at the SCG ::).
In the other game, Gold Coast has beaten Melbourne 90-77.

Essendrug below us on the ladder lmfao :cheers

Let's go top 4. Go Crows so Eagles/Crows are a chance at 9th. :lol

Essendon are done and dusted. Was in the car driving home and heard that Hird really got into his players at 3/4 time urging them to give everything for the win. Has the Hird lost his players?

maybe he can sue them too

Knowing our luck they will come out the week before we play them and say they won't be stripped of points after losing so many games and will be pumped up to beat us :lol
-
N0rt lose another close game
Crows beat them 79-70
Sweet
-
so who is nineth now?

so who is nineth now?
Carlton just same amount of wins as the Eagles (9) but slightly better %

I guess that means they will come out all guns blazing against us

Been a great week, Bummers, Cheats and N0rt all losing

Hawks pumping the Pies in their 2nd qtr. So much for the excuse from some footy journos that we only won because Hawthorn struggles in stormy conditions.
Also where are all these 63k Hawk members? Home game for Hawthorn and the Punt Rd end where their cheer squad and fans are is half empty :huh3.

At home curled up on their pet beds in front of the heater?

More than half empty MT. Looks 3/4 empty.
On top of the ladder, premiership favorites and 63k members.

They were the ohs representatives checking out the ground. Didn't have a better opportunity during the season to conduct a full and comprehensive assessment of emergency facilities during a game.
They even conducted the annual workplace fire drill and assembled at their designated meeting point at Richmond station, Melbourne players included apparently.
Melbourne fans were stuck at the snow. The high winds from Friday night and over the weekend uprooted many trees which were blocking the roads for the Range Rovers and the Volvos that were trying to get back to Melbourne in time for the game. :lol :rollin :lol

merge them with essendon
Tasmania 18th side

I'm happy with Essendrugs winning meaning hopefully once they lose their points it leaves Adelaide with a chance to make the 8.
Would rather play Adelaide if we finish 5th not Carlcheat.
If we lost to Carlton after all our 9th place finishes and them getting in by finishing 9th to me would equate to another 9th place finish.
-
Freo is utterly smashing Port: 64 - 9 at half-time.
-
Essendon in front 11.9.75 to 9.20.74 half way through last.
Given we lost last week to the navy cheats and the black and red cheating atm I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
I hope they draw. IMHO neither deserve to win. Not tonight, not ever.
-
Carlton are a joke
-
Both teams looked shot
-
What a spew out
-
Carlton are a joke
Sure we played like crap but they were happy to fire up last week.
Mal Brown and Neil Balme should have shot the lot of them like the feral dogs they are.
Given it may be his last game for a year he got the boys up.
-
Nearly locked in to play Carlton week 1 of finals then. :-\ provided we finish 5th

Lose to them in Finals week 1 given the way they have played this year compared to us and it will be like finishing 9th in 94/96/98/00. >:(
If it is our destiny to lose would rather lose to Port.
-
yep hope we get port.
if we lose to them, i wont be nearly half as peeed as i would be losing to the scum

Could be witnessing a massive choke up in Brisbane right now. Bulldogs have come back from 57 pts down to trail by only 10 pts with 10 mins still to go.

Lions won by 7 to keep their season alive for an extra week.
Would love if they finish 9th. :thumbsup

Well said Daniel. Top post.
I never said he was great, what I did say when I proposed the idea of getting him last year, was that he would be a handy pick up for us and play as a forward/ruck.
Too late now anyway. He'd be too expensive for his ability.
Last year he would've been cheap and a handy pickup.
-
Luke McGuane with tatts and a better rig
Or a poor mans Lock-Up Edwards
I'm glad you mentioned our third talls.
Now imagine our forward line without those two try hards and put Jesse "Itoldyouso" White in there as the third tall........
I'm sure you can see that all of a sudden we are already much more formidable for the opposition.
The beauty with this was that Vickery and Maric would have a decent ruck help if required.
"A poor mans Lockup" .........You make me laugh. :lol
-
Hahahaha two first quarter goals and a freebie in the third and that's it
They had to move Mummy down there to try and get the job done
Too expensive? Third rounder at best
I've been to nearly every Swans home game this year and this bloke is the definition of patchy, flat track bully that is useless in the clutch
I remember the hype 5 years ago then crickets apart from maybe 3 good games this year
Not even worthy to shine Lock-ups boots. Say, you still on the Essendon culture bandwagon? LMFAO

Would've been good if it was last draft and would've been cheaper.
You seriously can't tell me he wouldn't have been a better third tall compared to Mcguane and lockup?
Seriously???

I seriously can. Your a stat man, go check them

Saints 46 - 0
Why did Freo even bother turning up! Andy D will charge them with bringing the game in disrepute :lol.

Where did that Jessie white thread go. Was woeful towards the endnofbthe game IMO.
Not much chop when he doesn't have someone a. Foot smaller than him playing on him. (Pettard)
I would take almost any player on Sydney list ahead of white. Mummy would be wonderful

Would love port to flog Carlton today and see the cheats miss out.
I don't really care who we play in finals. Adelaide/Port at home would be nice though :)

Would seriously lol if Geelong lose and Freo cost themselves a home final because they chucked their game :lol
-
Lions up 59-53 at half-time.
This could be the second time Brisbane have sacked a coach before the end of the season and they then go on and make the finals :wallywink.
-
Go bears
-

:yep :clapping
The only team I can think of with a chance to make finals that dont annoy me, would like to see them get in... and oh the irony they sacked their coach :lol
-
Cats now up by 26. Would say now Brissy are gone.
-
Well I just type Brissy are gone and they then kick the next 3 goals in a row lol. Margin back to 7 pts.
-
Go Brissy Cats up by 7 now. :pray
Word may be through Freo have been beaten.
Then go Port. :pray
Then I hope we destroy Essendrugs. :thumbsup

FREO RESTING PLAYERS AND THROWING THIS MATCH WAS SMART!
-
FREO RESTING PLAYERS AND THROWING THIS MATCH WAS SMART!
Agree Ox.
Geelong 105-97 Brissy not lying down 9:37 to go. :pray
-
Geelong 106-104 3:18 to go. :pray
-
I'm not sure white is a huge upgrade on Aaron Edwards or mcgaune.
Sydney talls I'd take before white
Goodes
Reid
Tippet
Richards x2
Pyke
Gruny
Johnson
Maybe evirtt, LRT
In regards to Ross Lyon its almost in heard of to play your best team every game in most major sports. Treo smart
-
Geelong 112-110 56 seconds to go. :pray
-
Eff me Bris lose 112-111. :banghead
-
stuff
was it a missed shot or rushed
-
Scuffed kick that got punched through. Ball to boot.
Chapman should have been called for holding the ball in the ball up preceding the rushed point.
Effing Cats. Had enough of those effing handbaggers.
Port leading 14-1 early in the first.
Looking like Adelaide or Nought to be our opponents next week.

-

-
Inbreds :pray :clapping
I fear north everyone behind the ball style / then British bulldogs mass rugby running the other way and dimma tactical response

Yep Bears robbed, Mcburney too afraid to call the free that was there, also "missed" the deliberate oob 15 seconds earlier when someone came over the top and smashed the ball out in the fwd pocket
-
I think Freo should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute after 12 changes stunt.
:rollin :rollin
-
i think we should have brought the game into the same disrepute

It's up to the bar codes to beat NORT
-
Would love to play Carlton

If Blues percentage takes enough of a beating it would be so much easier for Adelaide or WC :cheers can't believe I'm going to be barracking for the Pies :banghead

For the greater good Dwaino. :-\
-
Eagles have too much to do but Crows in with a shake if this continues
Pies need to win though ;D :chuck :chuck
-
North into 2.30 now. Money's coming in.
still 8/1 over 39 North are.
When it really comes down to it why would bucks want Malthouse or the blues to make finals knowing a narrow loss to the gypsy's would have them playing port at the G. Provided of course the blues % is on top of the crows at the end of today
-
Cwood will spank Norf on the G. We will play Carltank and they're the most undeserving finals team of all time
-
I said all week if they get the right results going their way Adelaide will get in. They will spank the eagles tonight by atleast 60 points.
-
Port have stopped. Margin back to 10.
If the Blues win, it at least stops North making it :lol.
-
Port shelved a few frog cakes at half time and now they are kicking in
-
Back to 5 pts now.
-
1 point win lmao
-
Bring on the Blues :cheers
-
1 point win lmao
Conga line of suckholes
-
Freo will be playing down in Geelong next weekend. They'll be spewing.
-
We'll beat Carlton next week by 4 goals.
-
6 day break for the Pies nom nom nom ;D
-
Pies and North going goal for goal. So that means 5th place for us is confirmed.
It'll be hilarious if North lose another close one lol.
-
All pre season they beat so and so from the 8 and ran Hawthorn to a bees diaphragm.
Choke, choke, choke, choke, choke. :lol :rollin :lol
