DETECTIVES were last night trying to interview Richmond football star Andrew Krakouer after a bashing in Fremantle.
Justin Martin, 24, was serious but stable in hospital, with head injuries.
Krakouer is one of two men police want to speak to about the incident, which happened about midnight on Friday. It is understood the other man is his brother.
Police said three or four men were involved in the incident, which began in Mews Rd, Fremantle, before spilling into a car park in Marine Tce.
Mr Martin was taken to Fremantle Hospital before being transferred to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Sgt Graham Clifford said: "Police have visited a number of locations and spoken to a number of people.
"We have been unable to locate the two men we wish to speak with.
"Inquiries are continuing."
Krakouer, 23, who has two young daughters, is thought to be in Western Australia for a few days with his Perth-born wife for Christmas.
Richmond officials have been told police want to talk to the rover.
Krakouer has spoken by telephone to Tiger football director Greg Miller, who said last night he was trying to obtain more details.
Mr Miller said members of two families might have been in dispute.
Krakouer was drafted to the Tigers from South Fremantle in 2000 and made his debut the following year.
He is the son of former North Melbourne champion Jimmy Krakouer and the nephew of Phil.
Jimmy Krakouer served nine years of a 16-year sentence for trafficking amphetamines.
