i think the non victorian sides are at a real disadvantage in situations like this.

A melbourne based club may take a risk on someone for whom they are not the preferred club, but to take a mature player against his will forcing him to move interstate is a big risk

very true, Al. Not sure Port would bite if he strongly nominated us as his preffered club.

I never took any notice of him while he was playing for the scum. Looks like a pretty decent size for a mid though. Would be useful if he could win a bit of hard ball and challenge Jacko for his possie.
Doesnt seem to be too much interest/hype from elsewhere, which is a little concerning.

From RFC's facebook page:

What do you reckon guys? John McCarthy has completed his first day as a player with permission to train. Do you want to see us take him in the either the National or Pre-Season Draft?

Sounds like McCarthy has been told we're going to pick him up.

Hmmmm

I would hope that if they are looking at him then they would at elast see how trains with us first

Certainly wouldn't be taking him in the ND.

PSD only IMHO

Agree, PSD only as the ND should focus on 2 best available midfielders at 15 & 26, and best available Ruck or KF or KD.

Port will committ to Leon Davis at PSD, so McCarthy will be available to the Dees or Tigs if he insists on remaining in Vic.

Why wouldn't we just take him with pick 70 whatever we have? That way he's knows where he's at, gets to travel to Arizona with the tram and literally get a full pre season under his belt.

to do that we would need another delisting...and there is a rumour that is on the cards.

just wondering, whats the difference between using an otherwise unused ND pick as opposed to the PSD?

About three weeks worth of observation.

Yep over those 3 weeks we have in recent years got a few of the kids overlooked in the National Draft down to Punt Rd for a closer look.

Keeping a PSD pick up our sleeve also gives us the option of picking up a kid we may be interested in in the PSD who otherwise may be gone by our first rookie pick. However in saying that it looks like we are going to keep our last spot on our senior list for ex-Pie McCarthy.

McCarthy looks decent based on the YouTube vids, inside work impressive but needs to work on his defensive positioning. His pressure seems to be fine.

McCarthy's biggest issue is his disposal. He is also extremely unreliable in front of goals.

However his inside work and defensive pressure is quite good.

Probably just outside Collingwood's best 25 but would add a bit of depth to our first 22.

Keep in mind that he's never had a chance to continually develop at AFL level.  He could experience improvement.

No McCarthy listed so if we are going to pick him up then it'll have to be in the PSD. That could mean we are going to Pass on pick 55 (?)

Addam Maric is listed so he may have been told already he is not in our plans?

do we need to vacate another list spot to be able to do that?
