geezid be suurprised if we are anywhere near 100% tpp and no where to manouvre.

lets see a list of who we have to keep building around
cotchin, deledio, martin, riewoldt have to be the top 4 paid.

solid mature players chaplin, s edwards, foley, houli, maric, morris, knights,  tuck. thats 7 of the older blokes who are decent or new to the club.

younger blokes who we need to develop
dea, batchelor, arnot, conca, ellis, elton, griffiths, grimes, helbig, astbury, mcbean, mcdonough, mcintosh, ohanlon, vlastuin, williams. thats 16 players aged 22 and under in various stages of development. im not sure we are in a position to make a call on any of them. all of em will obviuosly not make it. i would hope most developing players are immune from being culled to make hypothetical salary cap room.

it leaves in the gun  and of course people will disagree
darrou, derickx, a edwards, grigg, jackson, king, lonergan, mcguane, nahas, newman, petterd, rance, stephenson, verrier, vickery, white. thats 16 potential delists trades.

of these  and being conservative newman at 31 yrs  would free up at least 350k, jackson  27yo 300k, king 29 yrs  200 k, mcguane 200k, nahas 150k, white 200k they are 6 players we should be looking seriously at cutting anyway. of course with others in the gun it would be ideal to hang onto a few but if salary cap is under pressure these blokes would free up plenty.newman aside what do we really lose if we had to cut these blokes.

vickery and rance are there because i dont rate em i think we need to do better. they would have real value atm id be prepared to trade em if need be  while they still have value. of course atm id rather keep em  and bring in and develop kids to replace em that way.

of the 9 mentioned make sure we keep martin, ellis, conca, riewoldt and grimes.
retire newman if we have to,
get what we can for jackson rance and king which wont be a real lot me thinbks.rance may fetch something decent.

i hope this is not true anyway i was hoping we had enough cap room to go after someone like james frawley.

Hey Claw,

My understanding of it isn't that we are close to 100% now and can't afford to pay Dusty and Jack what they want now but when others come out of contract in the future we won't be able to pay them. Vlastuin, Conca, Ellis by time they reach their 3rd contracts etc.

All the talk is Lids is on 600k and I think that should be the max ANY of our players get. So Cotch should probably be on 600k. Jack SHOULD get 600k over 3-4 years. Could give him an extra year (5) if that helps him sign for 600k. Dusty is probably a level below them and 500k for 2 years and if he performs over those 2 years as expected he can expect 600k there after.

Ellis and Vlastuin should be signed cheaply in only their 2nd contract. SO they shouldn't be an issue.

Conca and Grimes due to their injuries probably 2 year deals. Grimes about 200-250k. Conca about 300k.

Newy I would think has been paid well over the years. He's a fringe type player now. I think we could sell him the prospect of finals to sign for cheaper. He gets an extra 112k outside the salary cap for being a veteran anyway.

Rance I know you don't rate but he is comfortably best 22 and if we get rid of him we will struggle. Started the year slow but would be in our top 10 players for importance. If we could keep him for 350k we'd be doing well. He'd likely get 400k minimum.

As for Jackson and King you'd like to think they wouldn't ask for much. They're the types that we could clear out to make some space in the cap.

From memory, someone like Grigg came over on about $1mill over 3 years. I think we could get him for under 300 otherwise he is dispensible IMO.

We have been keen on a few FA players as well so I don't think we are battling at all. I think it's all about getting them to sign for unders so we can create a dynasty.

sure hope ypour right tigs. we just have to keep on building on what decent players we have we cant afford to lose em to salary cap mis management.

i agree on rance being best 22 and therin lies the problem for me. vickery is as well.  the concern is we dont have any players on our list atm who look remotely capable of ousting them and that speaks volumes about our depth in key positions. we cant rely on what we have we have to go back to the well and make sure.

take jack out of the forward line  what tall forward is  left.vickery give me a break. i have serious doubts about him making it and surely there are now concerns over griffiths and astbury.
stephenson remains the only viable back up to ivan omg we have to fix that. we have serious problems with the list.

people lauged at me last couple of  yrs  because i suggested we have a go at kpps like  tom lee cheaply i also suggested we take beau wilkes got laughed at again even said with tarrant petrie and hansen doing so well at north go hard at aaron black no one wanted to listen. jack hannath at freo is showing enough to suggest he will become a decent ruckman.
addressing some of our list needs is not a hard thing to do we jst have to be prepared to cut some of the duds we have and try someone different.

im really keen on jeremy mcgovern a key forward on wce list and scotty lycett a ruckman on their list.  they like black are not getting a go and imo they can both play. id seriously consider trading rance for both, it would be a risk but hey like you said i dont rate rance. to replace alex go hard in f/a for james frawley we all know hes peeed off at melbourne.

Another thing.

If we played Griffiths at CHF and kept him there for a good go at it we would know by now if he was worth persisting with, at the minute we are none the wiser although it looks like he may be a bust.
But if he was good we could at least get rid of Vickery because at the minute he has currency and still the potential tag, secondly he (vickery) is the most frustrating player on our list at the minute it's excruciatingly painful to watch him play.

I think the club erred when they played Miller ahead of youngsters and its even more of an error playing Lockup as the third tall when its prime development position for an up and comer like Griffiths, Elton or McBean. Sometimes you just need to throw em in the deep end and see if they can swim and the third tall position is ideal where they could concetrate on defensive side of the game as well as forward positioning and Griffiths would be ideal for this IMO.

By Playing Griff we would've known more one way or the other.

My understanding is Griff played back for Coburg for the majority of the gam :P :P

Claw I cant see Hardwick trading or delisting any of Jackson, King, Newman, Rance, Vickery or White who has found a place as the 22nd player ie. the emergency.

x 2.

Must be played in the 2nd half of the season and given a decent run at it for at least 3 to 6 weeks.

Who knows could turn a critical game for the club when it needs a win, or even better a in a finals match.

Lock-up aint the future, and although Griif has immediate deficiencies, surely he has got greater upside for the mid term than a 2 possession 2 sacrificial act 29 y-o HFF at his 3rd club.

End of rant..... againp

Also heard from a friend that West Coast are keen on signing Reece Conca, don't know what his source was but apparently they're offering him more than we can. Plus the come home factor, could end up over there in 2014. Eep!
They'll have to give up someone for him or a top 10 draft pick or both.  They will not finish last to pick him up in the PSD and he is not a free agent for a long time.
So they can want him all they want but he aint going nowhere!
Conca for Gaff?

Concs for Gaff? Why would you trade away a good player for a worse one? You missing Fiora?

Can we trade Fiora for Gaff??

Gaffs gone backwards at a rate of knots. Would be worth a late 1st round pick at best at the moment, probably worth a early 2nd rounder in reality.
