Well if the measure is A to E, then the very best players are A's and players that achieve little more than a few games are E.

King played 107 games, 79 goals, 4 Brownlow votes, think he finished 9th once in B and F?

The 100 games puts him above the lowest rank and almost pushes him to the next level but apart from that he achieved very little in real football terms.

I'd say Dan Jackson is a C+ and he has a B and F.

Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?

So you're giving him 3 ratings? ;D

He was very good at collision football. He could neutralize a contest with a player much taller than him which is what you have to do when your short.  For me that was his key assset, body on body contact.   Given its a collision based game he was better than a lot of players who squib the contest like Majak Daw or a few on our list over the years

whhoooo freakin rrraaaaayyyyy. got 7 or 8 yrs when you shouyld have got 2 at best.
your probably a great bloke kingy but ffs you were an ordinary footballer at this level.

A Edwards better?
different type and different need.  a edwards a short term fix we all knew that.  unlike king who has played 8 mostly very ordinary yrs and should never have been retained for as long as he has. we keep duds for so long we never improve and have little scope for improvement. king has been a part of this problem.
i refuse to sugar coat his carreer  just because hes retired.

What are you trying to say that Shane Edwards has done more in his 8 years ?. Kingy done more in 1 year than Shedwards 8 years.

l dont know why you compare A Edwards they are 2 very different footballer's & Aaron is a crap footballer cause he won't give 100%
i didnt compare the two. angus hampson was being a smart arse and raised the comparison.and i replied to his post. do you read peoples posts before jumping in.

as poor as s edwards has been  he has been a far better player than king. now that is saying something. simple fact is both are duds i cant be bothered arguing with you who is the bigger one.

you blokes crack me up. moaning on one hand about not being able to regularly play finals, and on the other hand defend the very hacks that stop us getting anywhere.

king while he gives 150% is and always has been a veru mediocre afl footballer. im glad to see the back of him in this sense.
s edwards i would have cut 5 yrs ago  i constantly complain about this hack yr  after yr.  both are duds  and we would be better off with out the both of them. we struggle big time in the roles these players perform.

I didn't rate him when he was in defence but when he was finally played in a position that he was meant to ie. the forward line I find that he has been more than serviceable. For me I would give him a B- rating for being the only decent small forward we've had since Nathan Brown broken his leg.

He doesn't have the bag of tricks or the flashy brilliance but he always busts his gut and I'm not surprised that during 2012-2013, we would usually win when he was on the team.

He was a great shut down defender in a similar vein to how Duncan Kellaway was a great tagger.  If you doubt that, look at all the opposition small forwards that ran rampant after he got dropped and until we recruited Morris.

He then replicated that play at the other end of the ground when he went forward and stopped the ball leaving our forward 50 time and time again.  Will be remembered as a great of the football club.

When you talk about cultural issues at clubs, this is a great example of one at Richmond I reckon.

Putting more worth in a players character than their performance is a massive issue for this club.

He might be the greatest bloke in the world but in 50 years time when they look back at this era King will be seen as a nothing player.

Basically his only achievement is playing 100 games in ordinary teams.

If he is a B or a C grader then what the hell is Deledio? An A grader at the top of the level with Judd, Gary Ablett etc? Hardly.

Shannon Byrnes retired this week as well with 131 games, 117 goals and played in 2 day and 2 night premierships. I'd say most people would have him as a C grader and yet when you compare careers King isn't fit to shine his boots.

I see your point TBR but I don't think the Byrns comparison is  apt.  I think King was the better player. Byrnes was lucky to be carried by a great team. He was exposed when he went to Melbourne and had zero impact.
I reckon King was a pretty handy small forward. Not magic but knew where the sticks were and chased like a madman. Good character to have around the club and I hope he can stay around in some capacity.

Well done Kingy, all the best mate and thanks for being the toughest player we have had in many many years.
