Was our best small forward tonight imho
Makes a big difference when you have a bloke with poise and can actually execute properly with ball by either hand and foot.

Castagna was tackling and pressuring ok but when he flies for marks he can’t take, handballs to a teammates feet or when he kicks it, he is a real lability to the team because he doesn’t have any poise, doesn’t ever seem to think, has no awareness of what’s around him and his skill execution is very very poor especially when he is under pressure.
I’m so glad Macca kicked that left foot snap and decided not to give it back to Castagna as he was expecting because there’s no knowing where that ball would’ve ended up  :rollin

I’d like to see more of Bolton, give him some confidence by giving him even half the amount of chances they’ve given Castagna to prove himself in the senior side.
The club that keeps giving.

Thoughts on Bolton's game?

11 disposals (9 contested, 6k, 5h, 64% eff.)
3 clearances
5 tackles
1 goal
1 assist.
No clangers.

Shai is not shy!
Bolton and Baker are play makers. George and Butler run on to other people’s work. Rioli a combination of both.

Loved his game, unselfish, creative and fast as stuff.  Looks more natural out there now rather than going for highlights reel.

Showed he has what it takes - would've liked to have seen him on ball and at a few centre bounces , particularly when Port were smashing us in the clearances,.... shame Freo will likely get the best of him but at least we'll get the best of Cerra in return. :shh

IMO as long as he gives 100% he must play seniors every week...has that ability to make things happen (actually has more ability than most) and should only get better with experience

Castagna set up a couple of important goals so cant really knock his game yesterday...can he improve on that? of course

Great game and should stay in the team. Makes a huge difference when you have players that can hit targets like Bolton, Menadue and Baker in the team :clapping

Hopefully it has clicked with Bolts that the bread and butter fundamentals are more important than the fancy cameo X-factor stuff. He showed the latter is more effective when he is working hard and basing his game around the former.

Has a long way to go, but I see Shane Edwards MKII if he can build a tank. Just so crafty. Hopefully can get close to that level. We all would be pretty happy

Probably back to WA WA land next year. His contract runs out this year IIRC.

Bolts is doing the bread and butter stuff better now but he's still got the moves when required.
