Well his agents just come out and said they’ve never requested a trade but have had discussions with Richmond about being interested in the possibility of moving back west if a fair trade can be negotiated. At the very least that gives us more bargaining at the trade table, not that we needed too much when he’s contracted for another 4 years.

Pay up and get a genuine star in or keep watching players prefer to play for your neighbours even at their absolute lowest.

fair trade for who? Benefits all parties concerned? LFAO Shai as far as im concerned can go and get stuffed.

many folk bagged Ralph Carr but i can assure you that bloke would never be pulling this kind of rubbish on the RFC with 4 years left on a contract.

There is a difference between demanding to be traded and say you would be interested if a deal can be struck. 1 reduces your bargaining power and the other doesn’t.

Everyone on here has been jumping up and down for high draft picks and now when we have a player which we can use to get some very good ones, there’s complaints about that too.

WA lad. Isn’t the first and won’t be the last to want to move back home. Is it disappointing? Sure. Can we use it to our long term advantage? Absolutely.

Has 4 years left on his deal. Provided the club grows a set, we state our price and if freo/eagles don’t offer it, then tell Shai to report for preseason in December.

WCE will not give up Reid.

Well no not easily...but if he's homesick enough and it's inevitable, then they need to ask themselves how much will they get at the end of his contract when Tassie's about to come in and is the only club with  the trade capital -and he ain't goin' there, so do they want to be back to square one then and will there will be another club that can offer them what we can right now? :shh

One small difference

Boyd wanted to leave Reid doesn't

You know this for sure do you? So why hasn't he signed an extension yet? It's been offered and last I heard he was in "no rush"....... :shh

Reid is the great hope for WC and it would be like us giving up Dusty in his heyday , we would better to take their first this year and next year if we can get them imo

I've said numerous times I reckon he will sign a contract extension. When? He has 2 years to go so IMHO sometime in 2025. Why would he re-sign now when he can increase the value of the extension in season number 2

This constant speculation that he is supposedly homesick is just silly. He certainly isn't playing like he's miserable and homesick.

Compare the last no. 1 pick who was homesick and wanted out in JHF, he played like he didn't want to be there, wasn't liked by his teammates... with Reid it's the total opposite

I was under the impression Boyd was fine to stay.

Until WB offered him $1mil/year.

Money talks.

Reid is away from home. Could just go and offer him a silly contract like $15mil/10 years.

An unexpected twist in the Shai Bolton trade discussion… His manager & @Richmond_FC have both denied he’s requested a trade. 🧐 (doesn’t mean he won’t do so)

“Shai Bolton has not requested a trade. We have had some ongoing discussions with Richmond throughout the season where he has indicated that he would be open to the idea of returning home to Perth if a suitable deal can be struck that benefits all parties involved.

With a young family and strong ties to Perth, the prospect of being closer to home is appealing to him. However, Shai is not making any demands of Richmond and fully understands that he has four years remaining on his current contract." Anthony Van Der Wielen.

“For Richmond, this is perfect”: Why Tigers should happily grant Bolton’s reported trade request

By Lachlan Geleit
SEN
20 Aug 2024

Richmond star Shai Bolton has reportedly requested a trade away from the club according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

While Bolton is contracted until the end of 2028 on a deal worth north of $1 million a season, the report says that he’s eyeing a move back home to Western Australia, with Fremantle – who hold three first-round picks – looking like a potential destination.

Even though Richmond would be losing perhaps their best player who is in the prime of their career if Bolton does exit, SEN’s Sam Edmund thinks the Tigers are in the perfect position following the request.

Edmund’s co-host Kane Cornes was one who asked why it is: “Perfect that their most talented player in a good age bracket wants out.”

But Edmund thinks that it presents the club a great opportunity to fast-track their rebuild along with the pick No. 1 they look set to receive for finishing 18th this season and other top selections they could get for offloading quality players.

“For Richmond, this is perfect and for Fremantle this is perfect – this is perfect match, AFL style,” Edmund told SEN Sportsday.

“They’ve been presented – not all by design, of course - the best chance they will ever get to fast-track a rebuild in a deep, consistent and talent-laden draft.

“Tasmania on the horizon cannot be overestimated. This is your chance to strike, strike now and get overs for these guys before the draft gets a heck of a lot more compromised (in future years) when other sides bottom out and you miss your window (to rebuild).

“Shai Bolton has got four years to run on a contract worth more than a million dollars a season, he was their ‘lifer’ and fair enough. He’s 25 years of age and you’d like to think he would still be there when they turn the corner.

“But that’s fine if he does stay and they dig in, they can’t lose.”

As things stand, Fremantle holds picks nine (tied to Collingwood), 10 and 17 (tied to Port Adelaide), which could all be sent to Richmond for Bolton and Liam Baker.

With Daniel Rioli also wanting a move to Gold Coast and the Tigers having later picks that could be traded to Carlton and Brisbane who need to collect draft points for father-son prospects, there’s a real chance that the Tigers could have at least four first-rounders in this year’s draft on top of pick No. 1.

Edmund thinks that this presents Richmond with a golden opportunity to strike in what’s considered a strong draft year.

“Liam Baker is set to leave, Dan Rioli wants to play for Gold Coast and to a lesser extent Jack Graham's considering leaving too,” Edmund said.

“There will be short-term pain if they all leave, but there already is pain, they've got the first pick, they’re going to finish 18th and with Tasmania looming, you want to get this done now.

“Fremantle have got three first-rounders so they could end up getting both Baker and Bolton, but those three firsts could give Richmond four first-round picks this year and that’s without Dan Rioli as well.

“They've sandbagged a bunch of late picks in this year's draft too – that’s where Brisbane and Carlton come in potentially needing to call upon those picks to get their father-sons in.

“You will never get a better chance to get a glut of high-end picks in and it just so happens that the draft is good.”

West Coast could also be in the running for Bolton, but they only hold one first-round pick (currently No. 3) in this year’s draft.

As things stand, Richmond holds picks 1, 21, 30, 39, 41, 48, 57, 65 and 73 in the 2024 AFL Draft.

I would deal with eagles and tell freo to find better picks or FO.

It doesn't seem all that great once Ashcroft, Lombard, and saints Battle compo pick around 7 are factored in.  Our second pick ends up being potentially around 11/12.

Il take eagles pick 3 and the pick for barrass for Bolton. Freo can give us their first pick for baker.
