Nick Riewoldt found the exchange between [Jack Riewoldt & Tom Browne] “pretty funny” but said players became frustrated when journos referred to their sources when reporting information as fact.
“The issue was he went with it before Jack knew whether he needed to have surgery or not. Jack hadn’t even had scans,” Nick Riewoldt told SEN radio.
“Where players get a little bit riled up is when you then come back, which Tom did, and say ‘I’ve got sources’. So what you’re saying to the player, essentially, is ‘I know you’ve got these people around you that you think you trust but they are my sources and they’re giving me the information but you’ve told them’.
“The issue with this one was Jack didn’t know what the state of play was.
“He got lucky, Tom. He had a guess and he guessed right, so good luck to him.
Riewoldt, however, said he wanted to see more banter between players and journalists.
“But I actually like it. There’s a good bit of accountability going on,” he said.
“We in the media try to keep the players accountable and it’s OK if the players fire back every now and then.”
