I personally wouldn’t like that at all. Can’t even imagine the game being played in that manner. Players standing over the ball afraid to pick it up, or just scrimmage after scrimmage of tap/kicking the ball along the ground.

Players making a genuine attempt at playing the ball should be protected not penalised and imo it is heading in the opposite direction.

Well the facts are that it wasn't bad. The ball was in constant motion. Ball players still won the ball or would find separation with adept separation techniques.

What you didn't get was a ball ups every 5 seconds because there was a negative play like when I guy picks it up knowing he will be tackled and create another ball up.

If you're wondering what it would sort of look like watch the 1992 Grand Final for an idea.
Great players find a way and the umpires have a much easier job to do.

Honestly they need to start reviewing footage, fine players for first offence and then just start giving 1 game suspensions.

Yep, it is a blight on the game!  Ducking, diving & shrugging up tackles to milk a free was never part of the game.  There was never a rule to say that acting deserves a free kick!  Hugo & Vlaus were both sure of what happened, so how does the umpire fall for it time after time? 
Hawthorn were really good, all credit to them, but I hate the way they act it up to get a free ... & they did it all day!
