Is Dow destined to join his brother in navy blue?

“I’d be happy if I were to go to Carlton but I would be just as happy if I were to go to any other club,” Thomson said.
...
Paddy and Thomson are slightly different players.
Both are agile midfielders, but Thomson is seen to be a little more of an outside player who is able to play a taller and can drift forward and provide a target.
“I reckon he’s a lot more damaging on the inside,” Thomson said of his brother.
“He does a lot more grunt work and he’s really strong with his hands in the contest and he’s powerful in that regard. I can probably be more damaging on the outside and use my jumping ability as well to take some overhead marks.”
Thomson and Paddy have two other siblings and grew up on a stone fruit farm in Swan Hill.
Both went on to attend boarding school at Geelong Grammar and work their way through the talent pathways, including playing for Vic Country in the under-18 national championships.
The pair speak regularly and Thomson likes what he hears from Paddy about life in the AFL.
“He always says it’s a good lifestyle and you stay healthy and fit,” Thomson said.
“You get to play footy which he loves and I love so to follow in his path of playing AFL would be a dream and what he says is exactly what I’m after.”

Originally a North Melbourne supporter now with a soft spot for Carlton, Thomson said he looked at Western Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli as a player to try and model his game on.
A nervous wait comes now ahead of the draft, but Thomson said he was as relaxed as he could be.
“You can’t do anything about it really now so we’ll just wait and see,” he said.

Dow lands at Tigerland

Nov 27, 2019 8:39PM
Richmond has used it's first selection (No. 21 overall) in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft to recruit Bendigo Pioneers midfielder Thomson Dow.
Here is a summary of what Richmond fans can expect to see from Dow on-field...
Club: Bendigo Pioneers
State: Victoria
Height: 182cm
Weight: 72kg
This year Dow split his football between Geelong Grammar and the Bendigo Pioneers at NAB League level. He also represented Vic Country in every game at the National Championships.
He plays his best football through the midfield where he can showcase his brilliant agility and ball handling to win clearances and either step out of traffic or release using clean and creative hands. When resting forward Dow is a constant threat. His speed off the mark and marking ability mean he is a tough match up for defenders.
We think Dow has huge growth in his game. He has the athleticism and football smarts to develop into a very good midfielder for the Richmond Football Club.

The big move to Grammar that helped midfielder
Josh Barnes
Geelong Advertiser
November 19, 2019 4:00pm
AS HE faced the daunting task of packing up his life in Swan Hill two years ago, Thomson Dow was sure he wasn’t moving to Geelong.
The midfielder was welcome to board at Geelong Grammar, but as a confessed shy teenager, at first he wasn’t interested.
After considering it, a change of mind meant Dow relented and moved to the school, where his older brother Paddy also went, a move that would set his path towards the AFL.
“It was a pretty big step and to start with I was adamant I didn’t want to go down to Geelong,” he said.
“Then all of a sudden I changed my mind and it’s been unreal down at Grammar, I’m so glad I went.
“Definitely moving to Geelong has helped my footy excel, not only footy but my education and friendship group as well.”
The younger Dow brother has been conscious of following in the footsteps of the Carlton midfielder since his junior football and initially spurred any comparison between the two.
Although Dow has used Paddy – who was drafted to the Blues with the third overall pick in 2017 – as a sounding board through his schooling and football with Grammar and Bendigo Pioneers, he has worked to make his own name.
PLAYER PROFILE
Player: Thomson Dow
Age: 18
Height: 182cm
Weight: 72kg
Position: Midfield
Clubs: Swan Hill, Geelong Grammar, Bendigo Pioneers
“I tried to forge my own path where I can because as always there are comparisons, so it’s nice to get out of the spotlight of (Paddy),” he said.
“Early days back in the juniors I used to hate it and never liked the comparison, but now I’m well aware it’s going to happen.
“It’s always nice to have him there to talk to but the comparisons have become a normal thing so I’m not really bothered with them anymore.”
An explosive midfielder capable of breaking out of congestion, Dow played in four games for Vic Country during the national championships during the year.
In study he has gravitated towards business and hopes to take up a commerce degree at university around his football.
Dow’s teammates during that carnival and at Grammar, Brodie Kemp and Caleb Serong were inseparable during their school years and all appear likely to be linked once again when they have their names called on November 27.
“We’ve become really good friends between all three of us,” Dow said.
“We do everything together at school and it’s a bit of a joke amongst our mates that we do everything together all the time.”

# 34 North Melbourne
Thomson Dow / Bendigo / 182cm / 72kg
Interesting prospect and struggled where to place him as think he could go a bit higher than I have him. Midfielder who really good ability to play inside the contest and win in his own ball as well as get on the outside. Inside the contest he is impressive. Wins it, moves through the stoppage well, is composed and distributes it to advantage. Also seen him play through HF and he again is able to read and use his agility to get into good spots. Ceiling could be pretty high.

Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country | Midfielder/Forward

... Dow is the brother of Carlton’s Paddy. While he is not as readymade as his brother, he has similar athleticism and is good inside 50 on the lead. A forward to start his career, but will eventually develop into a full-time midfielder.

Based on his hilights its an underwhelming selection. Sharp, Bianco, Robertson etc all look like better players.

I do like that he's quick though (but then so was Menadud)...hmm...someone on BF suggested Philp was the kid we wanted and Dow was the next best mid with leg speed...though IIRC most seem to have had Philp lasting to around our next three picks and after Dow in the draft...Fox Footy labeled him(Philp) a bolter when his name was read out.. :shh
Meh who cares, we're still premiers.... :shh :shh

Geelong Grammar’s Thomson Dow stars on GMHBA Stadium in derby win over Geelong College
DAMIEN RACTLIFFE
Geelong Advertiser
May 19, 2019 8:59pm
GEELONG Grammar coach Andy Allthorpe has lauded Thomson Dow for his performance on the big stage after the forward claimed best afield honours in his side’s win over Geelong College.
Featuring as the AFL curtain raiser at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday, Grammar proved too slick and classy for College, who challenged early in the final term but proved no match in a 13.9.87 to 7.6.48 scoreline.
Allthorpe said Dow, the younger brother of Carlton’s Paddy Dow, was the clear standout.
“He played midfield-forward and he was really dangerous from early on,” the former Geelong Falcons coach said.
“The space really suited him because he’s a really explosive player. He positioned himself really well, led really well, had a shot on goal early in the first which he missed.
“He had a chance to probably kicked five or six and he kicked three in five minutes in the second to break the game open.
“He’s just a dangerous match-up because of his explosiveness and size. He was really impressive, really stood up for the occasion.”

Tigers: Dow should dream of Round 1 debut
Sam Landsberger
Herald Sun
November 28, 2019
The magic of premiership coach Damien Hardwick means No. 21 draft pick Thomson Dow could make his debut playing against brother Paddy Dow in the Richmond-Carlton Round 1 blockbuster next year.
The Tigers visited the Dow family’s stone fruit orchard in Swan Hill on Friday before closing in on the midfielder who only turned 18 last month.
“I’ve said this the last few years – with our coach, who knows (if Dow could debut in Round 1?” chief recruiter Matthew Clarke told the Herald Sun post-draft.
“If (Hardwick) thinks they train well enough and he finds a spot for them, he’ll pick them.
“It’s not like he’s going to say, ‘He’s a first-year player he has to wait’. He’s always had the courage to play players if he wants to.”
While a teenager breaking into the reigning premier’s best 22 straight away seems unlikely, Tiger fans can get excited at Dow’s lightning hands when an opportunity does arrive.
“He’s slightly different (to brother Paddy). He’s a little bit leaner through the body, they’re different body shapes,” Clarke said.
“He places inside, he can also play a little bit forward, he’s got great speed and really good lateral movement.
“But he’s got terrific hands, that’s what we love about him, his ability to clear the footy. He’s played some really good footy when he’s gone forward for Geelong Grammar too.”
The 182cm midfielder averaged 18 disposals for Vic Country this year.
“We had two or three in the mix. He (Dow) was a player that we rated a reasonable amount higher than where we picked him,” Clarke said.
“It was a little bit tight. We thought some clubs had done some trades that would come inside our pick that was a little bit of a concern, but we’re really happy.”

Some might see this pick as being a bit left field but you can clearly see he has been picked for his ability to clear the ball out of traffic which suits our more chaos branded gameplay.
-
He has plenty of positives. Bit of development under his belt, looks like he is still growing into his skin.
-
its one of the reasons why I would have gone for someone else. a more ready made player like Sharp Bianco or Taylor. We are chasing premierships right now and a more ready player could make a contribution. Dow looks like a player who needs 18 months of development in the twos.
-
Reminds me of Edwards good hands to.

Couln't disagree more here Ramps.
We have 4 or 5 AFL standard players banging on the door for a spot in the team at the moment (Stack, Ross, Graham, Kamdyn, RCD, CCJ, Chol).
We've never been in a better position to shape and mould some young talent without needing to throw them into the seniors before they're ready.
I just have my doubts with Dow. But we've barely missed on a first round selections for 10 years (see C Ellis, Lennon), so I have faith in our team.

Exactly. We do not need to find an 18year old to immediately take a top 22 position. The club will leave Dow in a position in the seconds and develop him properly. Take RCD as the example.

Was about to post the same thing, georgies.
Lightly-framed as a youngster, good by hand with both the left and right, can win the ball and explode out of traffic, and can play as a HF which he will early days until he matures and moves into the midfield. Sounds very much like Dow is seen by the Club as Edwards' long-term replacement when Sheds eventually retires.

Pick 21, Richmond: Thomson Dow
Doerre's Power Rankings: 60+
Doerre says: Another surprise. Those linked to Richmond's first selection in Cooper Stephens, Sam De Koning and Sam Philp had all been taken and there was likely no time to orchestrate a trade back even if Richmond wanted to. Thomson, the younger brother of Carlton's Paddy, is a quick, light-bodied midfielder who can win his own ball. He has shown glimpses but ultimately is a project player who will take time to develop physically. He is a much less physically developed player by contrast to Paddy at the same age and has yet to impact games like Paddy did in the junior ranks.
If I was Richmond list manager: Devon Robertson being the best available player would be my choice here. His ball winning capabilities far exceed that of Dow and unlike Dow he has the capability of playing early and often in 2020.

Brandon Ellis had to be replaced as the whipping boy for our supporters. Hope he does well but not expecting much for the next 2 or 3 years.
Needs to call himself Tom instead of Thomson. If he wants to be a Thomson he can go play for Melbourne and hang out at the snow. We are a working class club kid. We aint got no room for blokes with fancy hoi polloy names.
The kid needs to get some tatts and shave his head. Instead of the current look hes got. Toughen up kid thatll get you in the good books with the supporters.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Edwards took many years to become the player he is now and we do have a couple of years to spend on these young guys with the depth we have now. It was the first thing I thought of when I watched the video of young Thomson.
-
Thomson's midfield game will be improved by following guys like Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin.
"That's probably the best part about it I reckon; There's some superstars at the club and to be able to train and potentially play with them is unreal."
Thomson also said hearing his name get read out while watching the draft on the television was a huge surprise.
"It's a pretty surreal feeling. I was just sitting at home last night, not really expecting anything and when my name got called out to be a Tiger … it's an honour really, considering the amount of success [they've had] in the past year and the years before that," he said.
"A week prior I spoke to a few of them [Tigers recruiters]. They came [to my] home and had a bit of an interview there. That was good to speak to them. Prior to that I hadn't had much to do with them so even going into draft night I still wasn't very sure because I hadn't spoken to them too much."
Thomson didn't realise that his Tigers were playing Carlton in round one of 2020. He said if he got a game it "would be interesting" to play his brother.

What rock have you been hiding under Ramps our club has long moved away from that type of socialist rhetoric we now are a club who embraces all walks of social levels.
Some of our current players went to private schools, should we give give Trent his marching orders because he went to Penleigh Grammar?
Jack Reiwoldt went to St Vergils in Hobart does that preclude him from becoming a Richmond man?
I thought that type of class warfare died out in the 70's.

Tiger Thomson ‘couldn’t be happier’
Grace Kalac
AFL media
Nov 29, 2019
As the first round of this year’s 2019 NAB AFL Draft took place at Marvel Stadium on Wednesday night, Thomson Dow was watching the action with his family over 300 kilometres away at their Swan Hill home.
Anticipating he would be chosen in a later round, Dow said he “wasn’t really expecting much”.
But when Richmond had its turn at pick 21, the final selection of the night, it was his name that was called out.
“I was at home with mum, dad, two of my brothers and my grandad,” he said.
“When Richmond picked me up, it was very exciting. I’m over the moon and still can’t believe it’s happened.
“I’m pumped. Based off the success (Richmond has) had in the past few years, it’s the place to be, so I couldn’t be happier to be at Tigerland.”
At 182cm and 72kg, the explosive midfielder has impressed with his clean, creative hands and excellent decision-making.
He represented Vic Country in every game at the National Championships this year, averaging 18 disposals per game.
His trademark agility saw him finish third in the agility test at the AFL Draft Combine, and that, paired with his pace, has quickly become the cornerstone of his game.
“I like to use my agility and pace where I can and use that to burst away from stoppages and from my opponent and get inside-50s and be as damaging as I can,” he said.
It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for the new Tiger, who travelled with his family to Melbourne on Thursday morning to begin his new chapter.
It wasn’t the first time the Dow family have experienced an AFL draft first-hand.
Dow’s older brother Paddy was drafted by Carlton at pick three in the 2018 draft. Paddy, now 20, has proven a constant pillar of support for Dow throughout his football journey.
“He’s been pretty good with me in terms of just advice and communication things and if I ever have any questions,” Dow said.
“He’s always there to speak to because he’s already done it all in the past two years.”
Dow, who turned 18 in October, packed up his life two years ago to attend boarding school at Geelong Grammar and pursue football opportunities.
The resulting maturity he developed over those years is set to hold him in good stead as he prepares for his next big move.
“It makes the move easier because I’ve already done it before,” he said.
“Being in Melbourne and closer to my mates and brothers is awesome and I’m stoked.”
Dow said he was thrilled to be following in the footsteps of fellow Bendigo Pioneers product and Richmond superstar Dustin Martin.
“He’s one of the best in the league so to be playing alongside him is an absolute honour,” Dow said.

Richmond came into the second night of the draft having selected lively midfielder Thomson Dow with pick No.21 in the opening portion.
They had been keen on speedster Sam Philp, before a pick swap between Port Adelaide and Carlton saw the Blues swoop with pick No. 20.
"We rated Thompson higher, we were really happy to have Thompson fall where he fell. We think he's a really exciting player, a really exciting person from a great family, so we're rapt to get him."

Richmond’s National Recruiting Manager Matthew Clarke on Dow:
On Wednesday night we recruited Thomson Dow at pick 21. A midfielder with clean creative hands and excellent decision-making. And having only turned 18 in October, you must see a lot of upside in him?
"Absolutely, we’re pretty excited with Thomson. He’s played footy with Bendigo Pioneers and Geelong Grammar. Probably not a lot of games in the pathway but we think he's got significant upside. He has got great hands, we liken him to one of our current players, Shane Edwards…We’re really happy to have him."
He also seems to have an excellent character, one that will fit in well at Richmond, and also a lot of maturity having spent the last few years at boarding school pursuing his football.
"He’s been at Geelong Grammar for the last couple of years…He comes from a great family. His older brother Paddy we really rate as a player and he’s going to be a really good player for Carlton, but we are looking forward now to seeing what Thomson can do for us."

Dow: How new Tiger compares to Blue brother
Nick Smart
Herald Sun
30 November 2019
New Richmond recruit Thomson Dow swore he had no idea who his new AFL club’s Round 1 opponent next year was.
When told it was Carlton, which is home to his older brother Paddy, Row replied with a grin:
“If that pans out for me to get a game, gee that would be interesting.”
Richmond figures have already put it on the No.21 draft pick to aim to make his debut in the Round 1 blockbuster against the Blues.
Coach Damien Hardwick has shown he is not afraid to make selection bombshells, which was evident when he selected Marlion Pickett to make his debut in this year’s Grand Final.
While a draftee immediately breaking into the reigning premier’s side appears unlikely, the 182cm midfielder said he was just looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of the game’s biggest names.
“That’s the best part about it I reckon, there are some superstars at the club,” Dow said.
“To be able to train and potentially play with them is unreal in itself, so that would definitely make me a better player and improve my footy.
“It’s a pretty surreal feeling.
“I was just sitting at home last night not really expecting anything and when my name was called out to be a Tiger, it’s an honour really considering the amount of success they’ve had.
“I’m honoured to join Tigerland.”
Dow, who hails from Swan Hill and boarded at Geelong Grammar, said having his older brother Paddy as a sounding board would help his transition to the life of an AFL footballer.
“I think the way we play is similar, but there are a lot of differences as well,” Dow said.
“He’s a very solid, contested player and he’s probably got me in that area, but I feel like I could be more damaging on the outside as well as having that balance.”
Dow, 18, said he could not wait to meet his new teammates at Punt Rd.
“I spoke to Dimma this morning on the car ride over here,” he said.
“He sent his congratulations and he was good, and I spoke to a few of the boys as well.
“Some of them messaged me, which was reassuring.”

Richmond draftee can't believe his luck
By Sam Mills
SEN
30 November 2019
Richmond draftee Thomson Dow says he is honoured to join the Tigers and can’t believe his luck that he’s landed at the reigning premiers.
Vic Country representative Dow was selected at Pick 21 by Richmond on Wednesday night. Speaking to Brett Phillips on SEN's Time On, the midfielder said he had no idea which club he’d end up at prior to the draft.
“I spoke to Richmond a few times throughout the year, but I still had no indication,” Dow said.
“They’ve had so much success and credit to them because they’ve put the hard work in and to be part of that journey, it’s an honour, so I’m looking forward to getting to work.
“I was at the Grand Final so being able to watch and see how they play was unbelievable and I never would’ve pictured myself to be on their list if I was thinking about it back then.”
The Bendigo Pioneers product has already spoken to the captain and coach and said he can’t wait to get down to Punt Rd to meet his new teammates and coaches.
“Last night I spoke to (Trent) Cotchin and a few other boys and Damien Hardwick spoke to me this morning which was nice,” he said.
“I’ll head down on Sunday and develop a relationship with the new draftees and have a chat with the staff, then on Monday training will commence and I’ll be straight into it which will be very interesting.”
Brother of Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow, Thomson admits it would’ve been romantic to join the Blues but he’s glad he can create his own path.
“It would’ve been nice but I’m happier to be forging my own career at the Tiges,” Dow said.
“Talking to Paddy, I have a better understanding of what AFL is like so it’s definitely put me in good stead, and it’ll help me advance my carer so I can hopefully have a long one.
“He’s been unreal, I speak to a lot of boys who I’m good mates with and I feel I have a lot more experience in a way even though I haven’t been through it”
The 18-year-old Swan Hill junior is confident his skillset can add to an already impressive Richmond list.
“My athleticism definitely gives me that edge over others and my ability to use my agility and speed to break away from stoppages," he said.
“If I can use those at the Tiges I feel like that can be beneficial and help the team out.”

Get to know a little more about draftee Thomson Dow 😃

Richmond’s first pick on draft night, Bendigo Pioneers product Thomson Dow, was a surprising selection to some but was the Tigers highest ranked player left on the board.
A home visit from Clarke and fellow recruiter and former Tiger Will Thursfield in the final week before the draft ultimately sealed the deal.
“It was one of those ones where we walked out and Will asked, ‘have we drafted him already?’” he said.
“He can probably play inside and outside but he can also play forward as well. He can play some centre bounce long term but (also) can play some wing – some of his good stuff for Geelong Grammar was playing deep forward.”

Not my cup of tea. Knew very little of this bloke despite him being in the elite systems mainly because he just aint my cup of tea for a player.
This means i should just shut my trap. But i just dont see how this kid is a better option or a greater need than others who were still there.
The way the draft unfolded i thought you beaut Stephens Kemp Dekonig Robertson and Philp who i had very high on our priority list would get to us.I prefered all of them as well as others in front of Dow.
Fine only Robertson was still there when our pick came.my gripe is i had probably another 10 in front of Dow and all met bigger needs and looked to have better attributes. As i said like his brother he is not my cup of tea in a player.
Having seen nothing of him i know it should be just shut the f up but this is after all a place for the ill informed to voice their opinions.

We can only give people a chance. Maybe he is ok but i only see him as an ordinary player with good handballing skills.
I think our recruiter are drinking their own bathwater

Must be 2 flags in 3 years and a host of great kids coming up.

Let's wait for him to run out in the y & b before writing him off. In a system based side like ours maybe he will shine.

Richmond development coach Sam Lonergan singled out Thomson Dow, Richmond's first selection in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, as another Tiger ready to hit the ground running in 2020.
"He's moving really well at the moment. His body is in really good shape," Lonergan said.
"His ability to use the ball by hand once he gets it and create opportunities for his teammates around him and bring them into the game is fantastic, and that's really standing out for him at the moment."

Very underated this pick will suprise a few was at home yesterday when he come on.
-
It was only a last quarter cameo but Dow had a few handy touches when he came on. Hopefully he gets a full game against GWS in Wagga Wagga to show more of what he can do.
-
“We were really excited. He had five touches in 20 percent game time and he looked comfortable at the level,” Hardwick said.
“I’d like to think he’d get more game time next week.
“He very much reminds us of a young Shane Edwards. He’s got elite hands, backs himself in, sees things that others don’t.
“We’ve been very, very impressed with how he’s gone about it.”

When life gives you lemons: Dow brothers back on the farm
By Callum Twomey
afl.com.au
4 April 2020
WHEN Paddy Dow watched younger brother Thomson play for Richmond during the Marsh Community Series, he could see how quickly the 18-year-old had adapted to life in the AFL.
It was only in snippets, but Thomson, who was the Tigers' first pick at last year's NAB AFL Draft, didn't look out of place in the reigning premiers' line-up.
Tiger Thomson Dow in action during the pre-season. Picture: AFL Photos
Now, the Carlton midfielder is getting a first-hand look at his sibling's improvement as the pair train alongside each other while back at their family's fruit farm during the AFL's shutdown period.
The Dows have both brought gym equipment home from their respective clubs and set it up in their shed, and are using the local Swan Hill football oval in northwest Victoria for sessions.
"Most of our programs are pretty different, but usually after the running we have a kick. We're always running around the oval, but just not with each other," said Paddy, who is into his third year at the Blues.
"It's interesting all the little things he [Thomson] has picked up straight away, and just the professionalism of it all. He's much more aware of his body and what he can and can't do, it's interesting how quickly you can learn it all.
"Even watching him play in the Marsh Community Series games, it's the first time I'd seen him play at that level and he's definitely capable of playing at the higher level which is good to see."

Good 1st qtr. Got touched up by Shuey that qtr.
-
The brains trust game him plenty of minutes (88) And the boy did ok.
A little skinny and lacked a little strength a couple of times but overall I think it was a pretty good debut.
What I liked most was his pressure (21 pressure acts) without the footy he was Johnny on the spot harassing and tacking (2 tackles). :clapping
Almost half his possessions were contested.

Great coaching by Hardwick to play the kid last night. He will learn a lot and from what Ive been told he did ok getting abit of education by playing on Shuey.
-
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think he was good at all.
I know that is harsh and it doesn’t mean I think he won’t be a good player going forward but I thought he let the occasion get to him.
He fumbled everything he touched IMO.
The only way is up after that game, but good on the kid, and Dimma for throwing him the deep end.
-
He fumbled everything he touched IMO.
Apart from the ones he didnt
-
He fumbled 2-3 times. Otherwise clean in a hard debut.
Looked the goods to me. Nice hands and agility.
-
A couple of nice hand passes and a couple of horrible ones...looked completely out of his depth at times and clearly still too skinny....but overall showed good signs.... :shh
-
Seemed very raw to me too but years and games and we will see.
-
Rate this kid.

...he'll get better but surely time to finally give Emergency-Dawkins a crack instead thinks...assuming he's fit....if not bring in big Will "Dustin with a Y" Martyn..... :shh :shh
-
Looks good but too small. Needs size and fitness.
I would park him for the rest of the year, Higgins too. Bring stack back in. Edwards soon. Hopefully Astbury and Prestia for finals if fit.

Think Edwards might still be in quarantine for Geelong... :shh

I reckon our drafting last year was poor. I dont reckon any of them will make it.

Agree Ramps - delist them all immediately, save on hub costs....:shh

I wonder if Thomo's footy career trajectory will follow that of his brother's? Not hitting his straps and cementing himself at AFL level until late into his 4th year.
Dow's form run continues
Since returning to Carlton's side in round 12, Paddy Dow has been on the improve with more and more midfield time. Last week he was among the Blues' best with a career-high 24 disposals, and he backed that up with an impressive game against the Saints with 22 disposals and four clearances. He also pushed forward to kick a goal in what was an exciting display. Over the past six weeks, Dow has averaged 20 disposals and is playing with confidence in the latter stages of his fourth AFL season.

Dow trained away from the main group with Short, Lambert and Graham. I was told the Club sees him becoming a transition mid so they are working on improving his endurance. He was doing a stack of shuttles and 80m repeats with Short. It's not about sprinting but being able to get from contest to contest to contest. Something we missed with Lambert and Edwards missing a lot of footy this year.

Ok thanks.
Hope it’s not too bad. He was solid before going off. Won a few clearances.

Not a medical doctor but the way Dow's knee bent inwards when Coniglio fell into his leg would suggest a medial. Touchwood there was no twisting motion as well and Dow's ACL is okay :pray. Dow was awkwardly balanced adjusting to the ball slipping out of the pile on of bodies on the ground and his left foot got stuck underneath as Coniglio fell into his leg.

Certainly wasn't on crutches after the game and walked unaided
Couldn't see ice or a brace either

Need to play him for the rest of the year. If he is alright.

I thought he was very good yesterday. Provided something in the middle and seemed to get some good clearances when in there.

Update on injury?

Update on injury?
From Peter Burge:
Dow was substituted out of the win over the Giants with a knee issue but could still be a chance to face the Saints this week after narrowly missing a more serious concern.
"Someone ran into the side of his leg at a centre bounce contest and got him in the quad, but his knee [went] inwards and he's quite hypermobile, so it saved him a bit. If that was slightly worse he might have done his ACL, but he had all the checks done and all of those things and then came good," Burge said.
"He's pulled up pretty well, but we'll need to wait and see when he starts moving around and running. I think he's a chance to be available."

Great news. Saw some things I liked from him
-
Trained fully today which is good news
-
Trying desperately to find a positive :-\.
Dow needs to be persisted with in the guts. He was our leading centre clearance winner today and equal top tackler today.
23 disposals (8k, 15h, 12c, 12u, 82.6% eff.)
2 marks
5 tackles (1 in50 tackle)

I thought he looked comfortable and decent.

Really like Dow. I'd be building a side around him and Sonsie in the middle.
-
Thought he was great in the 1st half but like so many went missing
Have to keep playing him
-
I thought he looked comfortable and decent.
I agree i think he has shown more than enough to say he plays all year.
Trouble is as soon ashe has a bad one or two its likely he will be dropped.

Yeah and replaced by Aarts lol
-
He'll be dropped for Prestia when in reality they should drop Graham or "rest" at least one of Cotchin & Edwards..like I said before they should be playing the kids and rotating the oldies... :shh
-
Surely we wouldn't b that short sighted
-
Have seen our selections so far? :shh
-
7 tackles :o.
Dow is developing nicely in the guts with each game.
-
Short hair suits him too
-
Really really like what Thomson does.
-
Elite pressure all game. Stuck tackles and had poise in congestion.
Unlike someone suggested on here the coaches didn’t drop him for Prestia but dropped the very disappointing Ross instead which was the right decision because Ross doesn’t have what this kid has and that’s poise under pressure and unlike Ross he doesn’t panic and makes good decisions.
When he gets some muscle he will be a very good player for us. Coming along real nicely.
-
Dow is in the League's Top 10 for centre clearances.

Inb4 Dimma moves to him to hbf then everyone quickly forgets these early good games in the midfield and calls him a dud......might need Fyfe to fall on his leg first though...but at least he won't be told to slim down... :shh

You’re reaching here mate.

Yep kid's never been anything but a dud....
The following week Ross would receive a call-up for a round 4 AFL debut, after captain Trent Cotchin was ruled out due to a hamstring and fellow midfielder Dustin Martin missed through suspension.[19][20] He made a significant impact in the match, recording 25 disposals in the victory over Port Adelaide on the road.[21] Ross added 17 disposals the following week before posting 28 in an ANZAC Day eve win over Melbourne in round 6.[22][23] Over that initial three match period, Ross led all Rising Star eligible players in handballs per game while ranking second in disposals, metres gained and center clearances per game.[24] He kicked his first AFL goal the following week in round 7, before travelling to Perth for a round 8 match against Fremantle.[23] Ross suffered a serious ankle injury that week, with a Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe inadvertently stepping on and rolling Ross' left ankle just before half time of that match.[25] The injury would be revealed as a syndesmosis strain that would require surgery, ruling Ross out for between six and eight weeks.[26][27] To that point, he ranked first for centre clearances per game, second for clearances per game and second for inside 50s per game among Rising Star eligible players.[28] Ross resumed running exercises in late June, with his return timetable pushed out two weeks later than first expected.[29] After training fully in the last week of July, Ross made his footballing return on limited minutes with the club's reserves side in the VFL, notching 12 disposals in the match's first half.[30][31] He was added to the club's AFL emergency list the following week and was eventually called in to play when Dustin Martin was a late withdrawal due to injury.[32][33] Ross played a run-with role on Carlton captain Patrick Cripps for parts of that match, while accumulating 21 disposals and six clearances of his own.
.....yesiree..... :shh
-
You just said something about mansell they is relevant here. Just because he showed very good signs for his first 3-5 games doesn’t mean the club screwed his development by trialing him in other positions. He wouldn’t be the first and won’t be the last player to show good early signs before falling away. Especially when you consider that we were premiers the season he debuted. A lot easier to play well in a dominant team then it is to play in a crap/average one.

When drop in form after 3-5 games coincides with a questionable position change then I think it’s fair to question the clubs development…
-

I guess the only question left is; could he still be a decent inside mid, or is he too mentally destroyed to ever succeed?
-
I'm think at Richmond at least he's probably shot...if another AFL club sees him as an inside mid and gives him a fair crack at it then maybe he can still turn it around...(put it this way he looked better in his first 5 games then Will Brodie ever did in 5 seasons at at GC) but by then, outside of being able to say "I told you so" to few random anonymous flogs on the internet for a fleeting dopamine rush I won't really care anymore.... :shh
-
Clubs aren’t always stupid and considering how successful we have been we aren’t as stupid as we used to be. Every man and his dog know we need new midfielders to take the place of the ageing stars and they’ve been giving opportunities to every player they think can win one on one contests.
You don’t think Ross has been tried numerous times during the off-season planning for inside contested work but just doesn’t win any one on one contest against anyone in the team? It is not that hard to believe considering every time he plays seniors he fails time and again to win a one on one contests against most opposition players. :shh
………but it’s the clubs fault! :rollin
-
No it's your fault.... :shh

Dow has certainly beefed up in the upper body going by this pic at the Captain's Run today.

Was one of the reasons we got back into it in the 2nd half. Give him as many minutes as possible.
-
I don’t think he had a great game today pretty much got his pants pulled down all game bar maybe the third quarter.
hopefully he learns a lot from this.

his pressure and contest work is solid but he was soundly beaten today by better midfielders. He lacked any impact in the middle. He’s young so it’s good lessons for him
-
Yeah he was beaten. But had plenty of mates. I liked what I saw from him even when beaten and not getting plenty of it.
-
Thomson Dow received a knock in the same area of his quad as he suffered last week, with the midfielder substituted out of the game in the second half and being ruled out of next week.

Came in as a late change for Ross.
So how did we all judge Dow's return to the seniors?
13 disposals (5k, 8h, 8c, 6u, 84.6% eff.)
1 mark
2 tackles
6 clearances
4 inside 50s
2 intercepts
140 metres gained
4 score involvements
74% time on ground
-
I thought he was very poor
Twice in the last he pulled out of contests (not sure of showed on the TV) when he had to go in to cause a stoppage
Very poor
-
He fumbles too much, not up to it
-
Looks off the pace and out of his depth.
Convinced we should play him and RCD more to see if they can adjust but otherwise doesn't look promising.
-
Agree very poor
-
Dunno what’s happened to Dow. I thought in the afl games he’d played previously as well as in the vfl that he was actually one of our young mids who would step up and be a good senior player for us. But the last few games he’s played have been very very poor. Starting to think he may not make it either.
-
Seems to run with heavy boots.
-
Hmm would say he has good hands but am asking does he have any other redeeming feature.
Thought he got pushed off the ball too easily and for me still lacks size and strength
-
Dow can be a bit of a forgotten man at times. What did we all think of his game today?
15 disposals (10k, 5h, 5c, 10u, 66.7% eff.)
4 marks
3 tackles
3 clearances
6 inside 50s
2 intercepts
346 metres gained
1 free for
5 score involvements
1 goal assist
1 goal
73% game time
-
He was good in the 2nd
Needs to bring that consistently
-
Coming back into the side is Thomson Dow, who has been recalled for his first senior appearance of the year.
The 21-year-old has been a standout in his five VFL outings this season, averaging 24 disposals, seven clearances and three tackles per game.

Happy for him. Hope he takes his chance!
-
Hopeless Footballer just like his brother
Would delist him at seasons end.
-
Happy for him. Hope he takes his chance!
He didn’t.
I don’t think he has what it takes. He’s not even half as good as RCD.
I don’t see anything about him I can see building upon.
-
Needs to be played for a few more weeks.
-
Needs to be played for a few more weeks.
I'd give him another game next week with the hope he gets up with the pace of the game :-\
And putting to one side the pace of the game he lacks pace. And when you play a fast attacking game like we do you need to either have some pace or be able to navigate through the pace of the game, sadly last night he did or had neither
He also needs to attack contests which he didn't do again last night
-
Play him in the middle. It cannot be any worse then the current line-up.

He actually did play in the middle a fair bit and was found wanting, looked lost

Exactly this. You either need to be fast like prime Dangerfield, dusty and can break out with acceleration or be quick in mind like Pendlebury or Neale. I think Dow has the talent to be an afl footballer but I don’t think it’s at the centre bounce
-
He was given a chance and sub halfway through. Surely that is it for him. Put a line through his name and move on.
Played 14 games now without showing anything at all.

What about Ross, McIntosh, Ralphsmith, Miller and Mansell? Constantly gifted games whilst completely butchering their opportunities. Dow deserves as many chances as they've all got.

Weird comparisons.
Kmac was a proven handy roll player during flag years.
Ross has also had many solid games.

Needs a block 5 or 6 games.

The guys you have named have all showed some glimmer of skill. Dow has not shown anything, in his 14 AFL games, that you could say we should gift him more games.
But what would I know? If I had a clue I would be in the AFL coaching game.
-
What did all we think of Dow's performance today in his return to the seniors?
21 disposals (10k, 11h, 8c, 13u, 76.2% eff.)
6 marks (1 contested mark)
1 tackle
4 clearances (2 centre clearances)
3 inside 50s
180 metres gained
1 intercept
6 score involvements
1 goal assist
1 behind
74% time on ground
-
Definitely showed enough. More upside than a lot of players getting games ahead of him
-
A positive on very bleak day
Not sure it is enough to save him but at least play him for the remainder of the year
-
Encouraging signs but the flaws are still there and they're still sizeable. Jury still out but needs to play the next two. :shh
-
Was our best player tonight, that says a lot about the others

I find it hard to believe that supporters can be so naieve so often.
That lot you defend have hardly a skillful bone between them and while not a fan of Dow would take his skill set over the others every day of the week.
Maybe the simple truth is none of them are any good and they all need replacing.
-
Dow is currently our best centre clearance player. He is showing more care and values his kicks now more than ever. As a poor centre clearance team he is valued. No question he should get another year and he should be played.
-
I hope but I am not confident they will allow him to play the remainder of the year in the team.
-
He is being shopped around

Will join his brother at the Scumbaggers. :shh

💯 Agree

Interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter acknowledged Dow’s display during his post-game press conference.
“I was really pleased for ‘Dowie’,” McQualter said.
“He was significant around the ball for us.
“I thought he had a real impact and played well, which is good to see for him.”

Cmon he is a light weight 183cm mid who is slow and bluntly cannot kick. Been around 4 years and now after what 3quarters of decent footy he is a keeper.
Sure he earnt another game so play him but its sad to think his skillset is better than many who are playing.
4 yrs or half a game i know what body of work im going by. Sadly i think its time to delist.
-
Not convinced about him either but wouldn't call him slow. :shh
-
Or a lightweight. I’m not sure he will make it either but the body of work has barely been tested like say for a Jack Ross.
Using your own logic Crawski, he needs a full year in the seniors before we can ascertain his level in the seniors. :shh
-
Not convinced about him either but wouldn't call him slow. :shh

Well his teammates suggest he is our best clearance player and they loved what he produced last week as they know he can play. His improved game is all around care when footy is in hand- to this end, he has improved.
-
Not convinced about him either but wouldn't call him slow. :shh
Look for 4 years i have held back real criticism of this bloke. But its time to be critical he has had long enough.
a 183cm what 82kg mid who cannot kick and is not a big contested ball winner. And yes watch closely, if slow is harsh then lets say not overly quick.
Like most ive thought he will either force his way in and when he does he will grab it with both hands. It has not happened and i ask again do you judge him on the half of good footy he played this week or the overall body of work.
For sure out of a bad lot who got beat up by an average midfield imo he deserves another game.
Can you tell me the outstanding attributes that you see that says we have to keep him. even at vfl level.
-
Same as last week - good first half ordinary second half - good things mixed with some sub par and soft efforts too... :shh
-
Yep.
Does he not have a tank at all?
-
Thought he was very poor today
-
Same as last week - good first half ordinary second half - good things mixed with some sub par and soft efforts too... :shh
Yep
I was very disappointed with some of the non efforts in the 2nd half
Bad habits reappeared
-
Not hugely sold.
Can he do a Ross and be worth keeping. Dunno. Think it's be fine with us moving dow on.
-
He was ok, but one effort when he just didn't even bother to chase was appalling

Had a couple of chances to hit the scoreboard too and was poo
Rcd would have nailed those haha
-
183CM 82kg SLOW mid 4 yrs in. Cmon what body of work do we judge him by. Dow is exactly what you do after 4 seasons to clog your list up.
Okay some think him worth keeping then ask what level is he likely to get to.
-
Dow is crap like his brother. End of story
-
Thought he was ok in the first half but he really went missing in the 2nd.
His papers are probably stamped.
-
Dow is crap like his brother. End of story
At this point in time I pretty much agree on Thompson but Paddy looks like he's finally starting to come good.... :shh
-
Thomson Dow is flourishing with more midfield minutes for the Tigers. Dow has spent 66% of the game in the midfield, accumulating 20 disposals and winning six clearances. This is well above his average of 14 disposals and three clearances.
https://www.afl.com.au/afl/matches/4990#timeline
-
We only look good when he is in the middle at the bounce. Can get clearance from the middle
-
Agree his clearance work is very good
But that non chase in the 2nd was totally unacceptable and it will be efforts like that may cost him his place on the list and a new contract offer
-
I also thought he was good , although when Dermie highlighted his lack of chase early in the game that was a poor look for the kid
-
Great hands and can find the footy now but still picks & chooses when to go and his kicking is still woeful. :shh
-
Dow's game today:
27 disposals (8k, 19h, 13c, 13u, 70.4% eff.)
2 tackles
4 inside 50s
6 clearances (5 centre clearances)
176 metres gained
7 intercepts
5 score involvements
80% time on ground
-
All up he has been very good since coming into the team :clapping
-
A positive from today with some of the kids showing enough
-
Good apart from that obvious poor effort. Needs to get in the gym.
-
Shows a bit. Boy does he have a bit of HRS about him when it comes to contesting however..
-
Andrew McQualter says Dow played his best game at AFL level today.
https://twitter.com/RalphyHeraldSun/status/1695675394022940682
-
He will provide nothing to our onfield fortunes, much like his brother at carlton. I Would trade
By the way how many clangers today? He would have had a few from what i saw.
-
His [Dow's] ability to consistently win the ball at the coalface and distribute it to teammates, against such quality opposition on the day, prompted plenty of praise post-match from interim Richmond coach Andrew McQualter.
“I thought that was Thomson’s best game probably he’s played at our footy club,” McQualter said.
“Port’s midfield are so dynamic and I thought Thomson really matched them in that space.
“He’s done it pretty hard over the last three or four years, Thomson. Hasn’t been able to crack many games.
“But he’s certainly put himself up in the spotlight the last month or so.”

He does turn the ball over but he wins his own footy. That’s important.

Keep or test trade market?
-
Would get 9/10ths of stuff all for him.... :shh
-
Keep or test trade market?
Take a third rounder for him and run. Offload list cloggers like him two or three times and you have some currency in the draft.
-
I don’t get it.
After being in the system for 3? Years, gets a chance, does well, and we want to trade him??
Keep for me
-
Don't dislike the idea of keeping him, just wondering what his likelihood is of cementing a spot
-
He is young and can work on his skills and decision I’m thinking
-
Will be playing for the Tigers next year :shh
-
Only by default. :shh :shh
-
Keep saying it a third rounder for Dow and a couple of others just like him and you have the currency to trade to GCS for their first rounder so they can get their acadamy kids over the line.
I keep hearing our recruiting and list management is so good so why would you not do it.
First rounder or a skinny underwhelming slow one sided poor kick along with poos his pants ralphy and say 6 yrs in Miller who has done nothing. What is there to think about. We need to get Quality into the team and we need to make calls on what are likely only to be foot soldiers at best.
We are absolutely kidding ourselves if don't think we need to get young quality into our club.

Has resigned for 2024
Richmond midfielder Thomson Dow will return for a fifth season at the Club after putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal for 2024.
Richmond General Manager- Football Talent Blair Hartley said Dow's encouraging late-season form should give him great confidence coming into the 2024 season.
"It was pleasing to see Thomson play some really strong football when given an opportunity late in the year, which is a reward for the hard work he has put in over the past four years," Hartley said.
"Thomson has a skill set that can add something to our midfield mix, and through this extension, we look forward to seeing him continue to grow next season.
“We are delighted to be keeping Thomson at Richmond.”

Fringe player who will play 15+ games: Thomson Dow
The young midfielder won a one-year deal in September after making an impression under interim coach Andrew McQualter late in the 2023 campaign.
He produced a career-best performance against Port Adelaide in Round 24 when picking up 27 disposals, which might have just been
Yze will be looking for someone to step fill the hole left by Trent Cotchin and Dow appears to be the midfielder who can have an impact in and around the contest.
Dow was potentially staring down the barrel of a premature delisting late in then 2023 season, but earned himself a new deal and now he needs to break through and vindicate why the Tigers used Pick 21 on him in the 2019 draft.

No stats available aside from having the most CBAs (24) today, but Dow's performance lived up to the talk he was having a strong preseason at training, and you would think he's booked his spot in our 23 for round "zero".
-
Was super impressed with Thomson today.
His inside and clearance work was excellent
Really like the centre set up of Dow, Hopper and Graham. Ryan did them no favours with his ruck work but they combined really well.

They did indeed, very impressive! Ryan up against the best in the business was another learning opportunity.

Would be nice if you could take your bias towards certain players because of your obvious dislike of certain posters and actually give a view with some basis for that view rather than just take pot shots and troll and attempt to bait posters for the sake of it

Thought he had a servicable game. Not sure what to take from these type of games though.
Maybe i have blinkers on with this guy but i dont think he has much hurt factor and can be a real liabity on the spread. HE has good hands and can create a bit of space for himself but for me thats about as far as it goes. If we play so many slow mids in the real stuff the first 20 minutes of the game will be the norm.
The slow mo comments may be a dig but boy they are relevant.
The one i was impressed with was Seth Campbell. I think him Bolton and Sonsie should be starters in the fwd line. I think we could actually make all three a part of midfield rotations. They all know where the goals are as well.
No to fumbles Rioli and yes he is over weight again. im not sold on Steely Green either though he did a couple of nice things who knows.
Any way i dont see a spot for Dow Graham or Ross when the real stuff starts, they are well down the pecking order Prestia Dusty Taranto and Baker all say hello.
The one oldie who i thought did enough and showed he should play wing was Pickett. Still think Dan Rioli should play on the other wing.
Please no more of spud it up McIntosh or slow as treacle Ross on the wings not while we have some players with such good attributes for the role.
Still a fan of Sam Banks his use of the ball at times is great and we got some glimpses again, the concern is he still doesnt impact or stay in games for long enough the same criticism i have of a few of the older blokes who can't use the ball as well.

Dow, Hopper and Graham would be one of the worst starting midfield groups in history in the home and away season
The slow motion replays would have Foxtel & Kayo viewers thinking they'd accidentally hit pause. :shh
On queue lads. Not the H&A btw
Would be nice if you could take your bias towards certain players because of your obvious dislike of certain posters and actually give a view with some basis for that view rather than just take pot shots and troll and attempt to bait posters for the sake of it
WP, your love for Graham is making you accuse others of some ordinary things.
People are allowed to have an opinion, even have a laugh at players lack of speed which is what Dio obviously did. It wasn't trolling, it wasn't an attack on you...it was a playful dig at his leg speed and the other 2 aren't overly quick either.
It's flat out wrong of you to start to claim people are judging footballers based on their supposed dislike of fellow posters.
For the 10999th time. No one ever said Graham is a bad player, people just think he's slow and barely best 22 these days. You like him. That's okay. Both opinions are allowed

Well we need to mix it up or we gonna get the wooden spoon. Prestia isn’t going to recapture his dynasty form and to be honest his hamstrings are probably done. He’s an absolute legend but we can’t have meatballs at most CBAs
Taranto is obviously a lock but he will need to be rotated through there. Also he’s a better kick for goal than a field kick so we need options for ball users. I’m happy to roll the dice and see which of Dow, Sonsie or Ross can take the baton from prestia/cotch

Last if Sanson Ryan cannot learn hold his ground and stop being easily pushed out of contests then he wont Make.
It was better than a serviceable game. He was clearly one of our best.
Not saying he is the second coming of Dusty, but lets at least try assess his performances fairly.

Jacob Hopper says Thomson Dow will lift Richmond midfield
A fifth-year Tiger who only just clung to his spot on Richmond’s list has been backed by a teammate to “make us better” in 2024.
Ed Bourke
News.com.au
February 22, 2024
Richmond midfielder Jacob Hopper says the addition of teammate Thomson Dow this season will improve the Tigers’ on-ball brigade as he expects a host of senior players to return for next week’s practice match against Collingwood.
Dow, 22, secured a one-year lifeline at Punt Road thanks to three impressive performances at the end of his fourth season, and was prolific again as a first-choice centre bounce option when the Tigers beat Melbourne in a scratch match at Casey Fields on Sunday.
Hopper said the younger brother of St Kilda midfielder Paddy was ready for a breakout season after a terrific summer.
“He’s one of those younger guys who’s had a really good pre-season and we’re excited about what he can bring to the table for us,” Hopper said on Wednesday.
“He’s going really well, so he’s definitely one of those guys that we think can help make us a better footy team.”
Dow will have a fight on his hands to secure a midfield spot in Opening Round though as Tim Taranto, Dustin Martin and Liam Baker all look set for minutes against Collingwood in the inaugural pre-season Charity Shield game next Tuesday.

Earning his stripes: Fringe Tiger ready to stake claim in best side
Thomson Dow says he is confident he'll be able to step up a level in 2024 after a promising pre-season
By Sarah Black
afl.com.au
9 March 2024
THOMSON Dow knows this is his chance to stake a spot in Richmond's best 23.
The 22-year-old finished last year on a high, playing the last three games of the season in the seniors, culminating in a 27-disposal game against Port Adelaide.
The retirement of Trent Cotchin has opened a midfield role, and a strong pre-season means he's ready to come into his own.
"I definitely took some confidence from the end of last season. I think it was maybe three games towards the end of the season, which was good to get that run in," Dow told AFL.com.au.
"I feel like it did set me up for the pre-season that's just been, in confidence more than anything, and the belief I can challenge at the highest level. Hopefully the ball keeps rolling.
"I think it's something everyone battles with at different stages, even the best in the game. Having star players around me, of the likes of Tim Taranto and Dustin [Martin] – having those guys around to support and instil confidence as well is important, because we all go through it."
Promising Tigers midfielder Thomson Dow caps off an encouraging performance with a well-deserved major in the final term
Once match simulation kicked off in late January, the word from Punt Road suggested there were two clear standouts over summer – small forward Rhyan Mansell (who will miss the first few games with an ankle injury) and Dow.
"Over the pre-season, I've definitely worked closely with [ex-North Melbourne star Jack] Ziebell and Chris Newman. Ziebell's come in as the stoppage coach, which is one of my strengths, so I've obviously worked pretty closely with him in trying to grow my game even more and using it as a real weapon," Dow said.
"We've got players like Tim, as I mentioned earlier, where contest is also is a big part of his game, so leaning on players like him is really beneficial to me as well."
Dow was a talented junior and was selected with pick No.21 in 2019, with the likes of Sam De Koning, Deven Robertson and Dylan Williams drafted in the immediate picks around him.
It didn't translate into a dream beginning to his career, having played 17 games over four years, but he's come a long way in the past 12 months.
"I recognise that it's important to grab your career with two hands. So much changes in a year, and even if I look back to me last year, I wasn't even in contention for round one, due to different reasons," he said.
"It's important to take control of that and go in with so much confidence, because everyone's on the list because they're capable of change. Making sure I believe that too."
The life of an AFL player on the fringe of the best side can be tenuous, with Dow offered a one-year contract in September last year.
He's currently studying a business degree with a major in sports management, ticking away on the backburner just in case.
"You can look at it [a one-year deal] in many different ways. Any year, I suppose, can be a carrot," Dow said.
"Everyone's always striving to get that next contract, but you can't really look at it like that because that's looking pretty far forward.
"I don't try and think about that too much, I think week-to-week is the best way to go about it for me."

absolute dud, much like his brother.
-
...at least he didn't cost us a bunch of high draft picks and a huge chunk of our salary cap unlike somemore illustrious members of our midfield who stunk it up just as badly if not worse.... :shh
-
...also bit hard to use those "quick hands" when there's no-one running in support to give it too.... :shh
-
For him to use those quick hands, he’s gotta first get possession of the football
-
You know it only counts as a possession if you dispose of the ball? :shh
-
Yeah I do. I also don’t remember him having the ball another 10+ times only to not dispose of it because he didn’t have anyone to give it to. Otherwise, he might have set the record for most times a player has been caught holding the ball.
-
absolute dud, much like his brother.
WHAT A WASTE OF A FIRST ROUND PICK. Why we have hung on for so long when this guy has shown a total lack of enough attributes for the modern game is beyond me.
Have a look at a kid like McAuliffe who imo is way in front of him already when it comes to the neccesary skill set to succeed in similar roles.
Why do we hang onto these types for so long who are clearly deficient in the required attributes.
What irkes is he has never projected as any thing special or that he will even make it yet we do so little in bringing in others just in case the obvious may happen and he fails to make it. Why do we always place all of our hopes into so few dodgy baskets when its so easy to get insurance.
-
No he usually got smashed straight away or spilled it after getting first hands on it partly because he was covering for blokes who weren't covering their opponents -Prestia in particular - bigger & harder bodied, vastly more experienced midfield teammates who weren't helping out or putting any kind of real effort .......and yes he was shyte regardless of all that, never said he wasn't think that was obvious by this part of this post...
...at least he didn't cost us a bunch of high draft picks and a huge chunk of our salary cap unlike some more illustrious members of our midfield who stunk it up just as badly if not worse.... :shh
...you see the "as badly if not worse" part implies that I still think he stunk it up as he is the base example.... :shh
-
I was very disappointed in him today . I know he wasn’t Robinson Crusoe ,but some of his efforts of not chasing his opponent out of the centre was not up to AFL standard
-
That’s the part that we are disputing. I just don’t see how you can say the other mids were ‘just as bad if not worse’. Again stats aren’t everything Dow had over 70% game time playing in the midfield and contributed a total of 3 possessions which wernt direct clangers.
Anyway it’s semantics. Fact is our midfield weren’t up to it and were comprehensively beaten.
-
He had a shocker like the majority
His defensive efforts or lack there of are a massive concern.
Happens far too often and has been happening since he started.

absolutely vindicated. Absolute waste.
he should be ashamed of himself putting in that effort. I personally expected such because quite frankly i've seen better green shoots come out of my arse than what he has produced.
should have been delisted last year and sent to Carlton for a pack of smokes.
-
I held some hope that he was going to step up this year but he really struggled yesterday and doesn’t look up to it.
Might aswell get games into McCauliffe.
-
i've seen better green shoots come out of my arse
Dunno what to make of this
First I’ve heard of someone having green shoots coming out their arse
Hope you’re ok mate

I think internally the club rates Dow - but he had a real stinker on the weekend. His stats were terrible.
I think he still needs a block of games because the club desperately needs to integrate the next generation of players .

I dont think we even have the next generation of players to integrate.

Got torn a new one on Saturday, but I reckon it will do him some good. Rowell pushed him around like a man v toddler, showed what he needs to work on i.e. getting weight on and holding your ground in the contest.
-
footage was hard to watch, though i saw other more seasoned players cop the same
short and Prestia were just as bad

Yep was arse but people expecting a 22 year old twig to carry the midfield while a three time premiership player, the reigning B&F winner and a 150 gamer built like a tank all bludged and ran one way need to give themselves uppercuts....they've also forgotten how ordinary & easily pushed around Edwards was at the same point in his career...was also a terrible kick (wasn't called Shank for nothing) with no right foot who got caught with the ball multiple times every game and was a speed hump in defence....and no I'm not suggesting Dow will eventually reach the level he did or even half that but then how many thought Edwards would apart from Mr. Magic? :shh
-
Happy to never see him again.
He is worse than his brother.
-
Yep he’s done. He’s had a solid chance
-
His tackling is pee weak. Gets brushed off like a fly
-
Weak and stupid, had enough chances. Delist
-
Yep seen enough.

Hard to believe all the yap about TDow during pre season. Has not improved at all from what I saw today. Picked out a handful of port players with some very average possessions. The Argy bargy with butters was embarrassing. Just better to focus on levelling the contests. Especially against a player like butters. Got sucked in hard.
-
Yep never been fully convinced however have been giving him the benefit of the doubt so far this year after some promising signs late last year and in the hit & giggle games this year but can't defend that - horrid... >:(
-
absolute dud. 17 of some of the worst games ive ever seen. The last 2 are top 5.
not sure he has ever put on weight but wikipedia has him at 76kgs, which is laughable in itself. Not sure that is true but he plays like he weighs 50kgs
no offence to some of them as they would have no problem tackle his sorry arse to the ground.

Same sentiment as most others he is not up to the level just too many deficiencies.
-
I've defended this kid so far this season, benefit of the doubt as they say
Not today, lost me with that not even half hearted effort in the 3rd, which resulted in an incredibly soft Port goal. Thomson Dow when you see the replay, you should be embarrassed
Posted the above on the match day thread
Can't defend him after today.

12 possessions as a midfielder is deplorable output.
So what attributes does he possess to make anyone think that we should be patient with him and see him blossom into a league standard midfielder?
Is he a tackling machine? NO!
Is he an excellent in and under extractor? NO!
Is he sublimely skilled slicing and dicing hitting chests in F50? NO!
Is he an adequate stopper that could develop into a quality future tagger? NO!
Is he a footy brain that seems to know where the footy is going to be before it gets there? NO!
Is he equipped with superior speed and can out dash opposition with elite pace? NO!
Is he like superman and can leap tall buildings in a single bound? NO!
Is he built like a brick poohouse? NO!!!
Is he a fearless warrior unconcerned for his own wellbeing? NO!!!!!!
Then why is he on our list? :rollin
-
SNIP :banghead
Enough with the smut
-
Don't worry about the possessions the effort go when it's your turn. Lazy and look disinterested.
-
Quick hands but that’s about it.
-
As a midfielder possessions count. The fact he is getting so little of the ball is deeply concerning.

Well he might get 15 posies, 3 contested,1 goal and 2 tackles today??
-
Dow's effort today. Most centre clearances for us (4).
18 disposals (7k, 11h, 12c, 7u, 72.2% eff.)
3 marks
2 tackles
6 clearances (4 cc)
3 inside 50s
2 intercepts
152m gained
6 score involvements
1 goal assist
78% time on ground
-
Much better today but I'm skeptical because I'm not sold on him at all. Dime a dozen type and way too soft in general. A fools gold type.
Can he prove me wrong? I hope so but not holding my breath.
Maybe playing him will increase his trade value for a decent pick.
-
Better today
But as I said in the match day thread some of his defensive efforts where he jogged along and refused to chase were embarrassing

But improved from last week
IGWYAS
but we are playing the kids and they are growing
-
Think nearly all were better today but im with Tigeritis on this one.
-
Few nice things but still not convinced.
Keep giving him games though, no point ever naming guys like Prestia again.
-
Great game by his standards.....I'd keep playing him in the hope Aints pay overs for him to join his brother.... :shh
-
Comms said he was 20yo. Is he that young. If so I guess plenty of time to develop. I see more upside in McAuliffe types but happy to blood as many as possible and see who clicks.
-

Been on the list since 2020...so unless we drafted him as a 15 year old, he ain't 20.... :shh

Doesn't have it. Nor does Sampson.
Trade.
-
Doesn't have it. Nor does Sampson.
Trade.
Ryan would have token interest at best. Dow maybe none
-
I think Samson is worth another year but must start to play. I would be giving him a go before Kosi that's for sure
He looks like an absolute dud that bloke Kosi. He and Dow should be sold for some bbq shapes. Rubbish the pair of them.
-
Jeez people are impatient with young ruckmen - might as well bring in a rule that you can only draft them from the state leagues and not before they're 24.... :shh
-
Doesn't have it. Nor does Sampson.
Trade.
You’re not trading someone who doesn’t have it. You actually need something to trade.
-
Probably the right thread to be talking about Ryan because although a year behind they track very similar.
The big question is where is the steady improvement each year.
Dow the same criticisms.
Contested possesions and clearances remain average at best. Still not a big ball finder still lays few tackles and those he does are usually ineffective.
Couple all that with still a light frame lacks breakaway pace and it seems a motor at times is a one sided kick that is at best average.
Ihave to ask where has he improved maybe marginally in most things but not enough to warrant games imo.
Samson Ryan, its the same sort of questions .At the level he wins few hit outs no one would argue that he is so far behind Nankervis and Naismith in the ruck role it aint funny. I dont think he has improved in this at all. He does not take marks consistently very few contested marks, and not a lot of hit outs so he is not offering much in the air. The worst of it is he continues to be easily pushed around when in contests.
He lays hardly any tackles wins few clearances and does not throw his body around. in fact so far he has been an almost total liabity when the ball hits the ground.
Its ironic his first game he got 1 possesion his last game he got two.
That sort of reflects the lack of continual progression in a harsh sort of way.
Im all for playing younger blokes but there needs to be sort of reasonable contribution from them most games we have played Samson so far we get so little.
Atm i dont think he is physically ready and i have grave concerns about weather he has the neccesary endevour for the game.
Play him in the two's and seek the right improvement in the areas he needs to improve.
Doesn't have it. Nor does Sampson.
Trade.
You’re not trading someone who doesn’t have it. You actually need something to trade.
There is always the one mans trash is another mans treasure theme. Just look at what we got for Vickery because the Hawks thought they could see something in him and could turn him around. Didn't work out too well for them . But there's always clubs willing to go down that path.
-
Jeez people are impatient with young ruckmen - might as well bring in a rule that you can only draft them from the state leagues and not before they're 24.... :shh
Funnily enough Isaac smith fully advocates for that (draft at 21/22-ish)

It's not the worst idea actually...... :shh
-
He is not a professional AFL footballer, never was and never will be. He should be playing AFLW and thats probably being disrespectful to some of them.
He is a shocker and Yze is as well for picking him.
-
As weak as I’ve ever seen. For someone who’s literally playing for their career he gives no where near enough effort
-
He's arse but he's gonna play all year and probably get at least one more by default.... :help
-
Dow's game tonight. He had our most tackles with 8.

8 tackles (1 in50 tackle)
2 clearances

He was quite good I thought. Very good at defending handballs and reading close play. Was moving quite well too, agile.
-
Was excellent
-
Top 2
Great game
-
Are you people comparing him to his normal efforts or an actual AFL level effort? :shh

Played well particularly in first quarter.
-
A lot better this week
Needs to bring that every week. There in lies the problem he doesn't. His inconsistency is the issue

Can’t teach courage
Some have it, some don’t
He will never have it, sadly
And if you don’t have it, there needs to be other strings to the bow which the player is elite at .. Dow is elite at nothing
Imagine the ticker of a Mansell for instance, in some of our other players
-

Great point Damo
Reckon we wouldn't be 1-6 even with our injury list if we did

Can someone explain why we delisted RCD ahead of this spudliest of spuds? RCD a chance to get picked up in the MSD ....reckon anyone would pick this bloke up if we cut him? :shh

RCD is a spud that’s why he was cut. When the game was on the line last week in the last RCD went missing. One is on a list and one plays VFL.

Clinging onto our premiership glory and ageing list.
Left after 11 games and should have had 50 odd.

Had a lot to do with his 2 meddling mother's. They are bad news
-
Yeah somehow I doubt that - from what I've heard Hardwick just didn't like him and was too impatient...despite being specifically told on draft night that he would take time -it was all captured on camera- and that was before he lost a year of footy to covid...not saying he would have or will ever make it but these things didn't help...... :shh

Spot on Dio
Last year after he played his best game for the Club in WA he got dropped because Cotch was fit to come back in. There were others that could have and should have been dropped before him and weren't. Writing for the lid was on the wall for the kid from thwt moment on. Week after week he was in the bests in the VFL and didn't get a look in... sums it up really

:shh
And why didn't he like him!!!!!
A lot to do with his meddling alphabet mother's!!!!
-
Stop making shyte up just because you wanna push some agenda irrelevant to the discussion......we have a politics thread for that....post it in there and I'll grab the popcorn.... :shh
-
Who is making poo up, you believe whatever you want, I believe what 2 current players told me directly!! Take a hike know it all
-
"I'll take "Things that never happened" for 1000 please Alex...." :propeller

I am ready for the haters but I think Dow has been serviceable within an under performing midfield group.
-

Depends what you mean by serviceable. Has he improved ? Yes but his baseline is still really low. You might be able to say he’s been serviceable for a midfield that has lost its best 3-4 players. He’s clearly not best 22 and probably not even best 26-30
-
He hasn't improved at all - if anything he's getting even worse.... :shh
-
BS, DOW is improving. Prestia is the one who is cooked.
Dow will be even better once Taranto is back, and McAuliffe keeps developing. Dow will never be a Harley Reid but could become a very good Craig Lambert type . Very good at getting in and under and shooting out handballs to open the game up
-
lmao - Craig Lambert....he wishes.... :biglaugh :biglaugh :biglaugh
-
lmao - Craig Lambert....he wishes.... :biglaugh :biglaugh :biglaugh
Lambert couldn't kick to save his life. Was just a pure in and under player.. this is also dows strength, so just play to your strengths. Not my problem you can see it .
Even if Dow plays a super game you'll still give him no credit.
His game last night wasn't bad at all.
-
He played a relatively decent game in round 24 last year...and one or two of passable efforts this year, but on the whole I don't see any real improvement....if & when he has a genuinely good - not "good" by his low standards- game I'll be the first to mention it....hell if I can give Shortsteps votes as I've done in the past then I can acknowledge anyone... :shh
-
Personally I think he is improving, good on him
-
He'll be lucky to become the next Reece Conca let alone Craig Lambert.... :shh
-

Don’t let it worry you
In the last few days we’ve been told how much better Mansell is than Jake King was
We’ve had Ralphsmith and Vlastuin mentioned same sentence
And now to top the lot off, Dow is a Lambert type …
Just roll with it
-
Take the top 4-5 players out of any mid field group from any team in the league & see how well their 6th best mid goes. That's what Dow is up against. Plus he has some pretty thin support from his teenage team mates.
Thommo is in no danger of winning an award for his season so far, but you can't criticize his effort or application. Its a pretty gutsy effort from a young fella ...
-
Granted I watched only half the game , while at work - with the sound off …. But I thought it was one of his better games . I saw a few butchered kicks but overall I could see some improvement on recent weeks.

The White JON :shh
Rubbish! No one has ever ran off the ground as good as JON! :rollin

Been our only mid who continues to win clearances. He isn't our midfield problem

FFS, leave it alone. Your obsession/ hatred of this kid is over the top.

LMAO - did you watch the game...worst stoppage player I've ever seen...we'rwe a man down at every centre bounce and ball up....utterly useless..... :thumbsdown

Oh , is that why he won most clearances for us.. how about you watch the game

Was OK tonight, but part of the development plan, has developed OK this year but has a long way to go.

LMAO - he was a stuffing speed bump all night ..and when he did clear it it was just useless dump kicks and hospital handballs....fmd did Machine hack everyone's account? ::)
-
Dow was very good tonight.
-
He’s been a real slow burn but there are signs he’s progressing. I’m looking forward to seeing him play along side bigger bodies.
-
I look forward to him finally being dropped when those bigger bodies return......Sonsie should be playing in his position right now... :shh

Sonsie lol he's no good :shh :shh :shh

Even if he was he'd still be better than White JON Dow....hell that Auskick kid in the wheelchair from last night would be better - at the very least he'd be harder to knock over...
:shh :shh :shh

:lol :rollin

he is so poo, like his brother
-
Dow was very good tonight.
Not from where I was sitting
His refusal to attack contests at times resulting in the opposition literally waltzing away without any pressure has me doing this :banghead
In the last twice he needed to attack the bloke on the ground to at least create a stoppage and he just stood there watching. He has to get this out of his game. He does it far too often, so much so it makes the good stuff he does mean very little
-
Yep - it's obvious enough on the telly for anyone with even a vestige of a clue but it stands out like dogs balls at the games... :shh
-
He's not going to make it.
Please drop and de-list.

His attack on the ball through the contest is fine for the moment. He needs to be playing with our senior midfield core to continue his development, and to get through games. We all see things we like and dislike, however i think he has a future with us.

Sorry I can't agree. I've defended him and given him the benefit of the doubt all season.
But last night game on line in the final qtr for him to either stand there or in one instance take a step back when he needed to attack the contest is IMHO unacceptable from a senior or junior player.
I want him to make it, facts are as a Club we need him to make it but as I said he needs to get the above out of his game quickly.
Opposition's are already using him to gain advantage at contests because they are realising he will either stand back and be a spectator or know he won't give the necessary 2nd effort chasing
-
Gach Zuthrie marked 45m out, Dow took a step towards him, then turned and guarded space while Zuthrie ran into goal.

Not so sure on this one WP but as I said, we all see things differently.

Sometimes when you are in the absolute minority, it might be prudent to sit back and think to yourself, poo, I might have this wrong
But for some reason you seem to enjoy being in the minority
This could be for a couple of reasons
1- you like to be a different voice so there is some debate on the forum, which is cool
2- you have no idea about football, also ok, you might learn

I might be on the minority on this forum about Dow (and others), however the match committee see things differently so i can rule out point 1 and maybe its you that falls into point 2. Food for thought :whistle
-
ooh and the match committee are doing a mighty fine at the moment. :lol
Machine give it up. You have had more misses than the whole site combined and this is one.
Dow is only getting a game because quite frankly we have no one.
-
On the theme of a minority,
How many games has this bloke played in the seniors?
Should he be a starting mid, or should he be pinch hitting / rotating as he learns the craft?
Should he be given some direction / mentoring by senior players?
Could he be improving as he learns the craft and go ok when the big guns come back?
-

All fair questions/points
He's played 29 games
Should he be a starting mid? At this point yes and yes no doubt it would assist his development if he had more senior blokes around him
However, I would think 29 or 129 games there are some non negotiables and for me at least standing and spectators and worse stepping back from a contest are non negotiable
As I said I want nothing more than to see him succeed but I would think (hope) that we would have seen improvements in the non negotiable and I'll put my hand up and say I am yet to see it, especially the last 5 weeks
-
He's only in the guts because he has no other strings to his bow and can't be hidden anywhere else....he's been kissed on the knob due to injuries and is getting a run that far better players - some no longer on our list were never afforded and some of those players ironically because they were more versatile than Dow could ever hope to be didn't get the opportunity to show their strengths and play in their best positions at the top level...Dow's being played in his best (only) position and - despite what certain serial defenders of duds may hilariously & ludicrously claim - is still stinking it up with very little sign of improvement, in fact if anything he's getting even worse ...... :shh

Don't need to see him again

Don't need to see him again
Agree but no doubt we will :-\
-
Don't need to see him again
Don't want to see him a Richmond jumper ever again, even in the VFL.....should be delisted on the spot....never see a bloke stay on a list for so long and play this many games and still look completely overawed and out of their depth....looks like every match is his first.... >:(
-
How many games has he been gifted again?
I think outside of his brother j can't recall a worse player in years.
-
He's not great. Was average tonight, very average

Stuffen unbelievable. Could be fair enough if he had shown ANYTHING. McAuliffe has shown more this year than Dow in year 4 or whatever it is for him
-
We are tanking
-
Would like to hear from Machine on this topic
He has been leader of the Thomson Fanboi club
Think it’s only fair we get a follow up review from someone who is perceived to be part of the inner sanctum of the club and one of the boys
Seeing as we are all subjected to rampant Cumbo bashing, a bit of Thomson follow up seems fair
-
We are tanking
Find it hard to agree with anything you say
But on this I think you are correct
And one would hope you’re definitely correct
-
16 disposals only 3 kicks. :rollin
If he could actually handpass effectively then maybe that would be something to work with.
He's cringe!

No point having quick hands if you can't aim....plays like Edwards if Edwards was cross-eyed... :shh

Has to go at seasons end.
Tanking na not imo. The list as far as mids goes is diabolical, there is no other options if playing actual mids is the go.
Who else was there to pick.
And people want to see the back of Prestia.
-
So you think Prestia still has another a full injury free season of quality football in him -which would be the first time since 2019 and only the second time since he's been at Richmond? :shh
-

Can't believe I'm going into nature for Claw here but I think all he is saying is that right now Prestia is a better midfield option than Dow.
And I totally agree. We get more out of the Prestia cameos in 2024 than we have from the 15 odd Dow games
-
Wasn't comparing him to Dow - I'd play Prestia on crutches before Dow but I don't think either of them are needed next year or should be on the list - it's not an either/or for me...confident the kids we'll draft will be an upgrade on Dow almost immediately -if one of them is Smith, well he showed that just yesterday, as will Kmac2 after another pre-season under his belt , if he isn't already and if we want a cheap mature body with a bit of experience to protect them then just rookie Garner... even getting 15 games out of Prestia is extremely optimistic...let alone 15 of anything even approaching his best... :shh
-

Only a fool would think he or any other mid that is combative for that matter will go all year without injuries.
How's Hopper going or Dusty for that matter over the last 3 or 4 seasons. even Taranto has been up and down over his career.
He played 19 games in 2022, 20 in 2023. Had a horror run in 2021 and 2020 with 9 games both seasons but played every game in 2019.
13 in 2018 and 22 in 2017.
Up to this year which will knock the average around a bit he has averaged 16.7 games a year for us.
I reckon 15 or 16 games would be a good return. He may not be the player he was but he is still playing decent footy. Id take 15 games from Dion over most we have playing there.
What you want to hang onto Dow or Graham, Baker has left the building McAuliffe is still miles of it and Ross is not and has not played inside apart from maybe yr 1.
You want to just throw a pile of first year mids in from this years draft unbelievable.
Another year of Prestia is not going to hurt us it will help. Who else is there or more to the point who will even be there.
Heres our list of inside mids and mids who can play inside and out.
Martin - talk about players who are a shadow of themselves most are happy to keep Martin but want Prestia gone.
High probability Dusty wont be there next year and based on this year he shouldn't be. Hard to label him a mid nowdays Spends more time as a fwd i reckon. He has not played every game since 2017. :shh
Bolton - boy some here are keen to see the back of him as well. There are rumours about him going as well. He spends more time as a forward anyway. He is our best small forward as well.
Graham - He may not be there next year. Would pick Prestia over him every week.
Baker - not the best of mids anyway but smart money is on him leaving. As a mid id still take Prestia when fit.
Dow - well most agree he has to go.
McAuliffe - A 19 yr old baby with lots of development needed.
Taranto - By some margin our best mid atm.
Hopper - Like Prestia is a very good player when fit. Like Prestia has fitness concerns. Maybe we should get rid of him as well or even better get rid of the lot and just start again sheesh.
Sonsie - well i think he is a bust next year will tell us.
So Martin Baker and Graham could all be at other clubs or retired. Dow a bust it doesn't leave a whole heap of ready to go mids.
While on the theme of mids would give an injury prone Prestia another season over McIntosh and Pickett both 30 plus year olds.
-
I really think you are forced to keep the McKintoshes, Prestias and who ever of the old crowd will still play on as the kids are pretty ordinary so far and we will have 5 new kids drafted and who knows what rookies next year. So when the oldies retire this new lot have 50 games and aren't being caned each week.
-
Okay running players who could play wing hb or high hf instead of 33yo Pickett and 31yo flapper fumbles McIntosh. Who are both bloody ordinary and had very poor recent seasons.
Ross 24. wing/ hb.
HRS 23 - Wing/ hb /hf.
Short 29 Wing/ hb. Would delist the muppet myself.
D Rioli 27 Wing/hb/hf
Clarke 21 Wing/ hf
Brown 21 Wing h/f h/b
Trezise 22 Wing h/b
Banks 22 Wing h/b
Campbell 20 Mid h/f Wing.
Smith 20 Wing h/b.
Thats 10 players aged 29 thru to 20 who could easily play the wing roles if played there. HRS has probably done enough to get first dibs at the role next year. These two are the epitomy of two aging vets playing poorly for too long taking games away from younger players.
Prestia is different in the sense he is not taking games off anyone we dont have any kids outside of McAuliffe who is miles away. He will be needed because we just don't have the numbers.
Three or four mids drafted this year and his experience will be invaluable.
-
Play Prestia as a sub
